Missy only replies to the anointed ones, she didn't bother to even have a staffer acknowledge my concerns when I wrote to her. That leaves most of us out since we all aren't in her inter circle.  (Feb 19, 2014 | post #94)

Yes, the Arkansas house, needs a 3/4 majority vote to re-approve the Medicaid funded part of the ACA extension for low income family insurance. If they don't all those Medicaid dollars leave Arkansas and the poor will be without health insurance again. There will still be the federal exchange for those of us under 65 to get good insurance at a more reasonable price.  (Feb 19, 2014 | post #89)

First vote in the house yesterday, 5 votes short of passing. More negotiations going on, wonder what it will take to get the 5 recalcitrant votes?  (Feb 19, 2014 | post #86)

Not sure who you are coming out of Page TX, but you are paying their medical bills anyway. In fact you are paying 10x for their care at the ER vs them having some kind of insurance. The Federal budget puts millions into the Arkansas budget every year in Medicaid funds, ER block grants and Medical school funding to cover these uninsured peoples medical coverage. I hope you don't think these hospitals are funding all of these costs out of their pockets.  (Feb 17, 2014 | post #67)

Anglers Is Throwing a New Years Party

What a sad comment. The quote "locals" are becoming a minority. Why would you have to Know who is serving you a good meal. If you don't want to pay the price, simply don't go there. There are plenty of people in Stone County that are willing to pay the price of a good meal with a drink of their choice. That is simply freedom of choice.  (Dec 29, 2013 | post #15)

Vote Stone County Wet ?

I just verified what you say is true. I called the ABC and what I thought passed did not. I stand corrected. It would take more than 1720 valid registered signatures to get the petition on the ballot for next September.  (Nov 19, 2013 | post #21)

Vote Stone County Wet ?

I just put a call into the circuit clerks office, it appears that the vote for the circuit clerk last election was 4520 votes. I glean from this that it would take 678 signatures to get a petition put on next Novembers ballot. Shoot for 1000 to be sure that all signatures are deemed valid. You know the drys will vet each signature carefully. I'm sure it wouldn't take that much grass roots efforts to collect 1000 signatures. Almost everyone I know in Stone County drinks. The arm twisting to get people to vote their true conscience will be the bigger obstacle.  (Nov 19, 2013 | post #19)

Vote Stone County Wet ?

I believe the 38% rule was overturned a few legislative sessions ago. Now it is just like any ballot initiative, it require 15% of the registered voters to sign the petition who voted in the last general election. Here is the law: General laws shall be enacted providing for the exercise of the initiative and referendum as to counties. Fifteen per cent of the legal voters of any municipality or county may order the referendum, or invoke the initiative upon any local measures. In municipalities the number of signatures required upon any petition shall be computed upon the total vote cast for the office of mayor at the last preceding general election; in counties, upon the office of Circuit Clerk. In municipalities and counties the time for filing an initiative petition shall not be fixed at less than sixty days nor more than ninety days before the election at which it is to be voted upon; for a referendum petition at not less than thirty days nor more than ninety days after the passage of such measure by a municipal council; nor less than ninety days when filed against a local or special measure passed by the General Assembly.  (Nov 19, 2013 | post #17)
