Effectiveness of statins is called into question

They don't make these, or any other kind of drug, for anything less than the money. They don't care that you are sick, they are driven by profits. I in no way shape or form would criticize them for it. My Father-in-law is 58. After many decades of abuse on his body, he finally decided to go and get a checkup, about 4 years ago. He never took prescription drugs, ever. Within 6 months he was on 4 or 5, 4 years later he is on 9 total. People need to use their own brains. We do not cure in America, they push these drugs on people convincing them it in their best interest. It's a lie, close to 60% of most common ailments can be solved by proper diet and exercise. People are just lazy and would rather take a pill than put forth the effort. My wife is a good example as well. She takes everything under the sun, at the first sign of a cold, she is usually sick 2 or 3 times a year. I on the other hand do not, Last month when the majority of our family had the flu, ( most have had flu shots) everyone was sick for the better part of a week. I had a slight fever, and had no lasting effects after the 3rd day. Am I just lucky or is it the fact that my immune system hasn't been compromised from taking all the stuff they push on you.  (Feb 13, 2011 | post #4)

In wake of fire, West Des Moines apartment complex to ban...

Thanks, having never lived in an apartment, I wasn't aware that non smokers could detect such activities, so easily. But, for those who smoke weed, and or crank, they are able to get away with it so, smoking tobacco would be just as easy. Ever hear of air purifiers? Ionic breeze and the like. A few family members smoke in their home, and when we visit you would never know. I just find the actually enforcement of such a rule to be a dubious claim. More than likely the apartment management has determined that such a rule would save them a tom of money on their insurance. As long as they get the savings by enforcing a few times a year, they will care less if people do actually break the rules. Anyway like I said before it doesn't affect us in any way.  (Feb 10, 2011 | post #5)

In wake of fire, West Des Moines apartment complex to ban...

How can such a rule be enforced? Will you be subject to random searches? Don't get me wrong In principle it sounds like a good idea. In an apartment type setting, everyone can be put at risk by the actions of one careless person. I just fear that such a thing can not be enforced. I own our home, so I wouldn't be affected, but even renters have rights. I believe that the landlord or manager cannot come in without prior warning. Where will it go next, should a drunk person destroy some property then they can ban alcohol from the premises as well? When a person pays rent, in effect, that is no different that a private home. Cops still need a search warrant, so if anyone knows how they could possibly control the actions of someone in there apartment, I would be enlightened by your response.  (Feb 9, 2011 | post #2)

Medal of Honor winner Giunta opts not to re-enlist

Hardly much of a surprise. I served in the first gulf war. We at least had clear cut goals, and were not impeded in our ability to kill the enemy by political correctness. We have good men and woman dying for nothing. Freedom my a*!. The object of war is to kill your enemy, then take what they had and use it for your countries benefit. Strength is the only thing they respect in that part of the world. We show only weakness and the ability to fail. I praise him and our other fellow servicemen for their bravery, but enough is enough. If we are merely going to let them get killed a few at a time, for no reason then we should not be there. The Iraqi's should pay us 1.3 trillion in reparations. If they had stood up to Saddam and overthrew his hitler like regime then our forces would not of had to go into Iraq. They are a country of cowards, let us do the dying and fighting then insult us with their lack of respect. Turn the entire middle east into a parking lot. Nuke Iran, before they can do the same to Israel. Maybe OPEC would then stop ripping us off.  (Feb 9, 2011 | post #2)

SAD TO SAY, BUT IF HAD HADN'T COMMITTED A CRIME HE WOULD HAVE BEEN HOME. YOU WILL FIND NO SYMPATHY FROM MANY WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY. INNOCENT PEOPLE DO GET PUT IN PRISON, JUST ASK ANY OF THEM.  (Dec 15, 2010 | post #6)

Bank of America meets with states' officials over foreclo...

If you are able to hire a good lawyer ( I know the term is an oxymoron ) They can sue after the fact. If BofA did not have the proper paperwork they are entitled to get the house back. If it has been sold then they are also entitled to sue. Here in Iowa we have a very rigid system for dealing with foreclosures. It is estimated that it could cost nearly 50 thousand per case for them to re-forclose. We will wait and see where things go. Every month puts us in a better position to remedy the problem. A couple of months ago we almost refinanced through our credit union. We decided to wait a couple more months in order to rebuild our credit a bit. I'm glad we didn't panic. I'll gladly go another year or maybe two without a payment. Should they never be able to find the original note, (which was packaged and bundled together with tens of thousands of others) they simply cannot prove we owe them the money. It might be in a safe deposit box somewhere in U.A.E. or who knows where. I wished them the best of luck after trying one last time to negotiate. God bless you and your family, If the loss has changed your attitudes about how we tend to live and spend money then a positive outcome can be achieved. I know before this we spent every dime we had no matter how much we made. We have returned to a much simpler lifestyle, and are tremendously happier. Haven't had direct tv or tv for that matter of any kind in over a year. It's amazing how much can be accomplished when not mindlessly sitting in front of the tv. Human interaction is far more interesting.  (Nov 12, 2010 | post #3)

Bank of America meets with states' officials over foreclo...

They were turning down people for mods as fast as the requests came in. That was when they thought they could get your house with no effort. We hired an attorney and are now no closer to foreclosure than we were 14 months ago. One problem they have is the note from mortgages were bundled then sold then sold again. They can't find the proper paperwork to show where stuff went. We were Countrywide for 15 years. We have 40% equity. They thought (BofA) they could get a house worth 150,000 for what they bought it from Countrywide for 50,000 or so. They worked against our best efforts to catch up or modify. They get what they deserve. We have a good chance of never making a payment ever again. Ownership would be in limbo forever, I plan on never selling anyway, so F them. We only wanted a 30 yr fixed rate instead of the A.R.M. we had been getting hosed on for 15 years. This is the price they pay for being greedy. This is what happens when corporate greed of this quarter verses the long term. How do you lose money when in 30 years the average homeowner pays for their home nearly 3 times over? Greed that's how.  (Nov 10, 2010 | post #1)

Culver, Branstad Say Every Vote Counts

Every vote huh? Heck some democrat votes count 3 or 4 times. Look at the practice of unions bussing in members, they get a box lunch, pay for the time and a list of dems to vote for. We need campaign and voter reform to prevent this. I for one this morning saw many people who can't be here legally, yet they vote? I know someone will comment how you can't tell a legal immigrant from an illegal one. That is true but if I can't, then how can the people responsible to ensure voter fraud doesn't happen, can't either.  (Nov 2, 2010 | post #7)

Voter Turnout In Iowa Expected To Be 52 Percent

Thankfully your idiotic vote won't count. Are we talking about Narcisse? I would have voted for him myself, but he can't win. Both Braindead and Chester have to pay back the people who get them elected. You think it's you and me? You're wrong. It's the unions and such that swing elections. After all who spends that kind of money to get elected, they plan on stealing it back from us the taxpayers, and giving it to those who put them in office.  (Nov 2, 2010 | post #4)

Three Iowa supreme court judges could lose their jobs

I knew you were a religious nutjob. Is that eastern or pacific? I've been hearing that same crap for 40 years, the day comes then well maybe the voice of God was heard wrong? After all dinosaur bones were put here just to test our faith... Anyway, so a person has a choice huh? Does that mean you could be gay if you decided that was the way to go? I don't know about you but God made me attracted to women, apparently bitchy women in fact. I could no more deny my sexuality than someone who is gay. You and your kind want to impose your views on everyone. I find it hard to believe for thousands of years cultures believed in other Gods, but your God is the right one? Your kind is as responsible for the decline of America as the other end of the spectrum.  (Nov 2, 2010 | post #49)

Voting out the judges for doing their job will change nothing, chances are the new judges will still follow the constitution. You going to be the first to attempt a constitutional amendment? While you're at it maybe you could have them put in something to jail or deport illegal immigrants? At least then it would do some good for our state.  (Nov 2, 2010 | post #2)

Three Iowa supreme court judges could lose their jobs

Awesome point. I am a conservative, this is one area that I profoundly disagree on with most in the repub. party. Didn't this start as declaring it to be a civil union? It granted same sex couples the same rights as the rest of us. The vast majority of couples were happy with this arrangement, but the ultra fanatical sub-section were still furious. My entire point has simply been that if 2 people of the same sex want to be married, it effects me and you in absolutely positively no way shape or form. If anything it will be a positive thing for our state. We need more freedom not less in America. So many forget that our country was founded on freedom, to live your life with as little government intrusion as possible. Throughout our entire human history a small percentage of persons have been attracted to the same sex. They aren't turned, they are BORN that way. And since most religions believe God creates people as who they are, then hasn't God created them gay? Who are people to refute what is in Gods plan for someone? Organized religion has been a scourge on all people since it's inception. More people have died in the name of one religion or another than all the wars, famine, disease, and natural disasters combined. Once a person brings the religious aspect into the debate, they immediately lose the argument.  (Nov 2, 2010 | post #45)
