Norovirus Sickened 30 Who Were At Restaurant Banquet -- T...

For your information, which is none of your business, I HAD TO WORK!!! In the 30 years I left places such as these, and REPORTED THEM!!! I hated every bit of it but as a single mother, had to work to make the best money to pay childcare and needed the money. Food service makes a lot of money for those less fortunate. I stated facts, not fiction! I did the best of my ability as a manager for some establishments to maintain high health standards!!! I hated my job in these filthy, "nice" restaurants but had to work! Do you think I am the first or last to know all of this, but keep on working and making the best of it!!! ??????? As for the "network ", it is very much another fact! You bet there is, and I bet you know it!!! As I said, I stated facts! Do you think I enjoyed working in those situations? These were nice places. I never worked in a low class restaurant as a server or manager. I had to feed my kids and did my job and hated what I saw, and reported all of them!!! For the 3rd time, I stated facts. I am all for the establishments that follow code and are safe and healthy to frequent! More power to the owners, managers, CHEFS, cooks, foodservers... That is the way it should be. But might I say since you are still in the business...you look the other way too...after all, it is a job you must keep! Your arrogance doesn't do you justice!!! I have nothing to lie about. Just facts! (Was that the 4th time I said thsat)?  (Apr 4, 2008 | post #40)

The best advertising is seeing employees dining in the restaurant they work! It's not all of em that are bad, but a high percentage! Good to hear this news anytime!  (Apr 4, 2008 | post #32)

Here in Fl the health dept drops in unannounced, but the call line comes into place. Also they are required to come out only 4 times per yr...or once quarterly. Only more unannounced visits were brought on by a disgruntled employee or a customer who called the health dept on that restaurant. When I was in CT, yes, the visits were scheduled...(does that really make sense)????? I recall when all employees were required to stay at least an hour late to "clean and scrub" to pass the inspection. Things touched on "clean up" time were never touched otherwise!! Check out a meat slicer that hasn't been taken apart and cleaned in days on end? The little bugs wipe off easily. But be assured, before these scheduled visits, the slicer was actually taken apart and cleaned!! So best advice...if you insist on dining out in the best restaurant,...re think it! Or, go on the same day the inspector was there!! It is the safest!!! Just to straighten it out, I was not a manager when employed at some of these places. When I did manage, I did the best I could to enforce the health issues and importance of not just apearance, but beyond in securing a clean, safe, healthy restaurant. Other managers had boss' that wouldn't pay to do it right!!! It boils down to the owners! If the bathrooms look and smell nice, that helps to know the kitchen may be better than some. But if that bathroom is full of trash, smelly, dirty...the kitchen is a lot worse! I may make you sick but this was the worst I saw... The toilet was backed up in the ladies room. The illegal hire was the dishwasher, so he brought in the plunger and mopped up the mess. Goes back into the kitchen, does his job. Sink backs up in the kitchen. He just pulls out that same plunger and uncloggs the sink! Wait, theres more. At the end of the day when the kitchen has to be mopped, he pulls out the mop, rinses it a little and soaks up with a sudsy bucket and mops the kitchen floor! Great huh? What bothered you more about that? I quit that place, called the health dept and reported everything I knew. The health inspector did go out...but boss suspected a report by me. He anticipated a drop in and they did. So he did get some things written up, but not the biggest. I suspect all is back to usual there! (This owner makes over a million a year too)!!  (Apr 4, 2008 | post #31)

You are so right! Not just that one I mentioned above, but several have illegals. Who knows if they were ever vaccinated? I was a restaurant manager a few years ago here in Fl. The owner had several illegals from Mexico. He pd them a flat 250 per week ( I wrote the checks), whether they worked 40 or 80 hours that week! They had fake SS cards, which was obvious, but a copy we were required by law to have in empl files, looked more genuine than the original! I reported this to my boss. He told me that we really didn't know that,.... if asked. Meanwhile if one would go "home" to Mexico for a visit, we would never know when he was coming back, or IF!! We would get calls saying that they were caught trying to get back in but will get a better plan and be back in a few weeks! This restaurant was also a well known place. So filthy that I would only eat something from home or wrapped. I can say I am safely out of the rest biz! The filth, the "buying out" the inspectors, the greed, the uncaring owners, the illegals who make the owner richer at that rate he pays them with no taxes or unemployment fees paid!!! Much more! I say we need a genuine protest. It has to be addressed and end yesterday!!! If this is just the restaurant biz, what about all the other business'? Hiring dirt cheap illegals everywhere! And how come we are getting so sick here?  (Apr 4, 2008 | post #27)

I have been in the restaurant business for 30 years. There are plenty of "4 star" restaurants I would never eat at. Food stays out for hours at a time, employees cannot call in sick as they may lose their job. Restaurants depend on all the help being there to run efficiently even if someone is quite ill. Most restaurants have a serious infestation problem. Some treat monthly and some, not at all. I recall working at a very popular Italian restaurant in Canton that had cooks that would kill the cockroaches with a loaf of french bread that gets cut up and served to customeers! It was a game to them!!! I also recall this same restaurant with several employees addicted to cocaine. Bathroom visits all the time and runny noses dripping into the food as they prepared it! As for health dept visits, there was a call line set in place. Health inspectors are predictable even though unscheduled. When one place had a visit they would call and warn the next place the inspector is coming. Then things were quickly put away, iced down, cleaned up...health inspectors generally miss the real picture. Towels that wipe down tables were filthy, never sitting in bleach, not a bucket in site, until that inspector comes walking in. You should see the scurrying about to get things "looking " good. I would not eat at some of the places I worked. I would drink from a styrofoam cup and bring my own food in. And these were nice places. You don't know what goes on behind those doors at all. I worked at a place where we were always out of hot water. Washed dishes in cold water, wiped them down and brought them to the kitchen to have food served on! Restaurants for the most part are filthy and bug infested. The roaches come in on truck deliveries and most just get a monthly spray or not at all or swapped with french bread and served to you! The cooks are so gross with filthy habits and never washing hands. The only time a glove goes on is when the health inspector walks in the door! You don't know what goes on behind the scenes. I think real hard before going out. McDonalds has the best reputation for cleanliness. You are putting your health in these disgusting people. Food servers and managers know it, but it's a job and you have to work! Do not ever have your food server wrap your food in the back! So many times it is accidentally thrown away only to be picked out of the garbage and wrapped up. Have it wrapped at your table or request a box for you to wrap yourselves. This happens so many times! Remember for banquets...this food has been out a long time and usually not stored correctly over ice or refrigerated. As it sits in the hot kitchen waiting to be brought out, food servers who just cleared plates pick at the food little by little with gross paws on the food you are about to eat! I could go on and on, but you got the picture! Patrons beware!!!!  (Apr 4, 2008 | post #12)

Driver Gets 79-Year Term In Fatal Car Chase In Berlin -- ...

I am very pleased to see CONN finally show some justice. I am just uncomfortable with the fact that BOTH cars were going so fast. Too bad the young woman driving didn't just go speed limit and drive straight to the police station instead of a high speed chase. I am so sad all the families are in such grief. What a horrible tragedy, and CONN, please keep this psycho in jail!!  (Apr 3, 2008 | post #25)

Bank Heist Suspect Shot Dead After Chase

My son is a friend of the dead mans brother. What this article does not state and has not been released is that this man was shot in the back! He was running. Yes, this man was in the wrong. He robbed a bank and possible sexual assault. He was running and was shot in the back! he did not have a gun and he was running away...does getting shot in the back sound like justice? I say not! The police sound like they had a real good time shooting someone with a knife..... in the back!  (Mar 4, 2008 | post #83)

Woman's Death Ruled A Suicide

what a sad way to live and to die. She must have been in horrible unspeakable pain. When someone gets that low, they don't think of how it effects others. They are just at the very bottom and cannot focus on anything but to die...NOW! Hope she finds peace in the next life. God bless the engineer, as he will now be suffering.  (Mar 3, 2008 | post #5)

I guess if you can get an Attorney to take a bogus case, you can try to sue for anything! I work hard, not a workaholic, but my job is stressful. If I **** from a heart attack, does my family have the right to sue? Can't he just rest in peace for goodness sakes?????????  (Feb 27, 2008 | post #15)

Woman Killed On I-91

I was so upset at the insensitive remarks made that I posted above before finishing the rest of the posts. (I didn't realize she did have alzheimers but suspected as I posted). I hope the clods that posted those mean spirited words and put downs can honestly look themselves in the mirror! You make me ill! God Bless the family and the drivers. May she be at peace in Heaven!  (Feb 19, 2008 | post #36)

Woman Killed On I-91

So sorry for you as well. You are so right. No one knows why she was there. The article said it was an older woman. Alzheimers? Mentally ill and lost? Who knows? But to say these comments that are cruel and mean and really not funny at all...for shame. She is a human life. Show respect for the drivers and the woman!  (Feb 19, 2008 | post #35)
