The church of Christ

Please oh wise one, give us book, chapter and verse for YOUR view of things. It's easy to make baseless accusations, but hard to prove your point. I can prove by the Scriptures that ALL denominations are false - can you prove that the church of Christ is not the one true church? Probably not  (Feb 7, 2009 | post #29)

Does Bible Doctrine Matter?

That is an apples and oranges comparison. There is quite a different between flavors of ice cream and doctrines that will damn you soul. Again, doctrine does not seem to matter to you, even though you say it does, because you have blindly accepted a doctrine that does not exist. I thank you for your insight. Please, please, please give me a book, chapter and verse that tells anyone to "accept" Jesus as their savior! There is NOT one verse in the Bible that says it.  (Jan 29, 2009 | post #3)

Planned Parenthood To Open in Dubuque

yay, obama joins the conspiracy to murder the innocent! How sad for you and others of your mindset that murder is justified just because you can't control yourself, or because the baby is not going to be perfect in your eyes.  (Jan 26, 2009 | post #35)

Bible: word of God?

My dear Catholic friend, the letters written by the apostles and others were past around for all members of the true Lord's church (church of Christ) to read. it was through these letters (manuscripts) that were collected that the men who put together the Bible as we now have it, made the decision on which books to include and which ones not to include. The 1600 years of illiteracy was a direct result of the Roman Catholic Church rewriting history and dumbing down the population so that they could be easily controlled to believe that the Catholic Church was the Mother Church and all others were bad. To use the false premise that we need the Magisterium (or however you spell it) to tell us what God's will is, because the rest of us are too stupid to understand it, is typical of mind controlling cults. It is sad to say, that the Catholic Church and its priesthood is responsible for the damnation of billions of souls. Partly because they kept people in the dark, and partly today because people have chosen not to search it out for themselves. My intention is not by any means to demean your sincere beliefs, and convictions, and as Paul told the Galatians, "I don't want to become your enemy because I tell you the truth" (Gal. 4:16). But secular history confirms this to be case. The church that Jesus Christ built, was not the Roman Catholic Church, or any of it's off shoot denominations (Protestant Churches). The church of Christ was the first and only church that Jesus said He would and did build (Matt. 16:18). Not upon Peter, but upon Jesus Christ who is the foundation and founder of the church.  (Jan 13, 2009 | post #48)

Bible: word of God?

I agree, that everyone who has ever lived upon the earth in accordance to the deeds we have done, the thoughts in our minds and hearts (2 Corinthians 5:10; Colossians 3:25; Hebrews 4:12; etc.), however the standard by which our deeds and thoughts will be judged is the Word of God, the gospel of Christ, the New Testament Scriptures (JOhn 12:48; Revelation 20:12). Since it is the case that only the Word of God is able to provide what we need to live godly, and to instruct us in righteousness (2 Peter 1:3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17), then it must be true that only the Word of God will become the Standard bearer for truth and righteous living.  (Jan 13, 2009 | post #47)

I would sure like to know what Scriptures you use to prove your point? The book of Second Opinions? I understand that someone may have told you about Jesus before you ever picked up a bible and began to read for yourself, but the knowledge of Christ had to come for somewhere. It did not come through man's ability to reason. The only way for anyone to have knowledge of Christ and His plan of salvation is for the Scriptures to have told us so. That began with the inspired Apostles preaching to the multitudes and later recording the things that occurred. The letters that we find in the New TEstament were written to people of the first century, who exhanged their letters with each other and eventually GOd's providence saw that those letters were compiled into book form. Faith does not come through hearing what another person has to say, nor does it come through a still small voice in the night. it only comes through hearing the Word of God - The Scriptures, the Bible (Romans 10:17).  (Jan 13, 2009 | post #46)

Only the insane and mentally challenged are not expected to understand the Scriptures. EVeryone else is obligated to. God has given us a book that can be understood by at the very least an 8th grader. I'm not talking about every detail, but the things that we MUST know to be saved, stay saved, and worship God.  (Jan 12, 2009 | post #18)

Bible: word of God?

The bible says alot of things in the Old Testament that were meant and only applied to the people of that day. God no longer deals with men and women that way. While it is true that He still holds homosexuality, adultery, idolatry and other things a sin, no one living today is bound to obey the Old TEStament Law that required stoning and such.  (Jan 12, 2009 | post #16)

You are totally wrong. While it is true that you may obtain an understanding 'about' Jesus, you cannot truly know who He is, His nature, essense, etc. without turning to The Bible. Prayer cannot help you because there is no later day revelation. ONLY the Word of God can help us truly know Jesus, and upon gaining a proper understanding of Him, then and only then can we know Him in fellowship (relationship).  (Jan 12, 2009 | post #14)

Bible: word of God?

This is the problem with the denominationalism and the multitude of false doctrines floating around. People hold to this belief, that belief, their own opinions. Jesus said you SHALL KNOW 'the' and IT shall set you free" (John 8:32). He did not say 'truths' and they shall set you free. If truth is absolute - which it most definitely is - then there is only ONE correct answer to interpreting the Scriptures. It is true that most people choose to intrepret the Bible in their own way, in accordance to their own feelings, but God will not judge each of us according to our interpretation, He will judge ALL of us by His Book - the New TEstament Scriptures (John 12:48). NO, there is no other way to know Jesus, the FAther or the HOly Spirit, except through the Scriptures.  (Jan 12, 2009 | post #13)

Bible: word of God?

The dilemma you find yourself in is that without the Scriptures, you would have no way of knowing God. You will have no way of knowing about sin, that you are lost and need a Savior. So having the Scriptures, text, or whatever you want to call it, is a must. You can't know what your duties are, or that there is a heaven or hell. So you can cast the Scriptures aside all you want, but it through them and them alone that you discovered Jesus Christ.  (Jan 10, 2009 | post #8)

Bible: word of God?

The Scriptures as we have them were originally written in the Hebrew and Greek languages. All 66 books are the inspired word of God - 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The breathed out word of God. If it is true that they are not inspired or given to us from God Himself, then God is a liar. For He Himself said that He gave us the Scriptures. They alone are to be used for doctrine, reproof, instruction in righteousness, for godly living, knowing how to be saved, stay saved, worship God, organize the church, which church is the one true church. The Bible alone informs us of who God is, His nature, His essense, His will, His purpose. It tells us of His holiness, mercy, grace, love, faithfulness, justice, foreknowledge, etc. Only God Himself could have given us the information to know about who He is, and what His will for us is. To say that men just wrote it down on their own, is to say that men invented God and the Bible. There are a multitude of passages where the Bible itself tells us that it came from God, not men.  (Jan 9, 2009 | post #5)

You are absolutely correct when it comes to the Catholic Church - it is a farce! The reason that it is phony is because it is the invention of men and not God. The reason that people like yourself consider the church and maybe even religion a joke is because of denominationalism. They are nothing more than the devil's tools to confuse the issue and cause uncertainty about what is right. But the fact remains, despite the rediculous and hypocritical manner that most churches operate, you can know the truth. You can find out for yourself which church is correct and operates in accordance to God's will. But first you must have an open mind and an honest heart. I challenge you look for yourself. Don't take my word or the word of any other man or woman, check it out for yourself (Acts 17:11; John 8:32).  (Jan 6, 2009 | post #9)

It does not really matter what the world thinks, or what the world says. The final and only authority that matters is the Word of God. And yes, there are many interpretations of the Bible, but there is only ONE correct interpretation. The way to determine which is the one true church of the Bible is to properly deduce from what Scripture says about the church and what church today are claiming about themselves. Let's say that NFL football has be absent from the world for 2000 years. One day you come across the NFL rule book. In that book you find what is necessary to establish the NFL and the rules on how to play the game. Could you recreate the same NFL that existed 2000 years ago? Of course you could, by simply following the rule book. The same is true of the church. Jesus said He would build 'a' church (singular), not churches (plural) Matthew 16:18. The church was established by Jesus' apostles in Acts 2 (In Jerusalem, on Pentecost, 30AD). The pattern for the organization of Christ's church is found in the pages of the New Testament. So if anyone were to follow that pattern as used in the first century, then they would have the same church that the apostles were members of - the church that Jesus said He would build. The only church approved of by God. So now we take the pattern - who is the founder of the church - JEsus Christ. When did the church begin? - 30AD Where did it begin? - Jerusalem Does the Catholic Church fit this mold? No Wrong founder Pope Urban, wrong time 432AD, wrong city - Rome! Does the Mormon church fit this pattern? No - wrong founder - Joseph Smith; wrong time 1872; wrong place - America. On down the list you could go with denomination and you will find that they are not the true church of the Bible. Then you could compare their organization to what the Bible says, and the way they worship, and their plan of salvation, and so on and find that they are not the church of the Bible. Just like following the NFL rule book, you follow GOd's rule book - the Bible.  (Jan 6, 2009 | post #7)
