Looking in from the outside, I can't see them trading Cano. But, there may be things we don't know about. I will be tough to replace his numbers, for sure. I don't see them keeping either Damon or Matsui. Matsui could stay as a DH, but I think they want Posada DH'ing about 1/2 the games, and then use most of the games he catches with Jete & Arod DH'ing, keeping them fresh. Damon can still hit, but he is getting closer to being a 1 dimensional player by the day. His fielding was ok at best, and his arm is bad. I'd like to see Cervelli & Pena make the club next year, and Jackson if he's ready. Joba should stay in the pen, where he's more effective. That might be the way to go with Hughes as well. If not, we're going to have to go through a year of "Phil Rules", as he can't pitch a full year as of yet. Getting rid of Damon, Matsui & Nady's payroll would leave money to get another starter, bring back Andy, and we got 4 good pitchers. Maybe add a solid mid-priced OF as well. I would guess this off season will duplicate last years, maybe more so. Due to the economy, most teams will be looking to cut salary, so there could be some bargains to be had out there. I would guess the Yanks payroll would be reduced as well, but not by much. (Saturday Nov 7 | post #75788)
