Following Prometheus, Ridley Scott revisits Blade Runner

2012 is proving to be a wet dream for genre fans: The Avengers, The Hobbit and most certainly the return of Ridley Scott to fantastical filmmaking. As director Scott finalizes his update on the original Alien film that brought him genre acclaim, Prometheus (due out June 8th, 2012), there is considerable gnashing of teeth for his next return to earlier glories. The 74 year old director Scott cut his teeth on 80's cult Sci-Fi / Fantasy films: Alien, Blade Runner, Legend - done back to back. Many Michiana film fans believe that Scott is the greatest living genre filmmaker. As if to prove this to fans, the beloved director will be returning to his other fantasized film, Blade Runner for an update, sequel or something completely different. Hollywood's Ouija board needs replacing

A recent film to begin showing at local Michiana cineplex theaters is causing something of a stir among the Hollywood players. Nikki Finke at Deadline reported here that the new film 'The Devil Inside' received an F score during it's round of CinemaScore rating survey prior to wide release. According to CinemaScore (and Guardian.co.uk) F grades, are few and far between. "People really thought [The Box] was a stinker," explained Ed Mintz, who runs CinemaScore. Mintz could recall just three (other) films ever making that grade in the past: The Bug, William Friedkin's psycho-horror starring Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon, backpackers-in-per il horror Wolf Creek and haunted house shocker Darkness. Adding The Devil Inside to this illustrious list didn't enhance it's box office potential at least in the eyes of it's owners Paramont Pictures. So what a shock to see the ticket numbers rolling in for this weekend Continue reading at: http://www.examine r.com/pop-culture- in-south-bend/holl ywood-s-ouija-boar d-needs-replacing  (Jan 8, 2012 | post #1)

Are Michiana Sears / Kmart stores in danger of closing?

Yeah sorry, although Sears parent company said it would be releasing the list the day I published the story, the actual list wasn't available till 3 days later. Locally in the South Bend area we didn't lose any stores. Michigan lost a few but most hardest hit was Florida? A bit of a surprise, at least to me. i guess they weren't doing so well down there. The entire list is here: http://content.usa today.com/communit ies/ondeadline/pos t/2011/12/list-of- sears-kmart-stores -closing/1 Thanks for reading and sorry I wasn't more timely on my update.  (Jan 8, 2012 | post #4)

Are Michiana Sears / Kmart stores in danger of closing?

The Sears Holdings Corporation, which counts Sears and Kmart stores as assets, has announced impending store closings. Retail companies regularly restructure their holdings after the holiday season concludes. The corporation released holiday sales figures and specific action(s): Kmart stores were down 4.4% for the quarter, 1.8% ytd. Sears stores were down 6% for the quarter, 3.3% ytd. The company is instigating the closing of 100 to 120 Kmart and Sears Full-line stores. "We expect these store closures to generate $140 to $170 million of cash as the net inventory in these stores is sold and we expect to generate additional cash proceeds from the sale or sublease of the related real estate", Chief Executive Officer Lou D'Ambrosio stated in a recent Sears Holdings update. Alien: Prometheus trailer wets fanboy anticipation

Earlier this year it was announced that original director and fan favorite Ridley Scott would be returning to the Alien franchise. The internet nearly exploded from nerdist excitement. Initially began as a prequel using the (possible) origins of the Xenomorph species (the titular 'Alien'), Scott and writer Damon Lindelof (Lost) quickly dispeled any such comparisons. The Greek origin of Prometheus holds some details: Prometheus was the Titan God of forethought and crafty counsel who was entrusted with the task of molding mankind out of clay. In conflict with Zeus, Prometheus granted mortals fire but in exchange we were burdened with Pandora (the first woman). Prometheus was bound to a mountain where an eagle would feast upon his ever regenerating liver, for eternity (taken from Theoi.com). The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo premiere

The premiere of the american version of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was held in at the Ziegfeld Theater on December 14, 2011 in New York City. In addition to being a series of bestsellers, The Millennium Series has generated three swedish films of the books by author Larsson. Director David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en, Zodiac) was tapped to helm the american adaptation. Fincher, in a common Hollywood practice, recruited members of his award winning The Social Network cast and crew to bring his vision of the title to life. Recently it was revealed (by Alison Flood via The Guardian) that a graphic novel is in the works for the much adapted book series. The written adaptation will be done by crime novelist Denise Mina and art by Leonardo Manco. Published by DC Comics, the series will be distilled to a series of six graphic novels. One thinks that due to the content it t'will be a very graphic novel indeed. Mishawaka Barnes & Noble no longer selling top 100 DC gra...

Mishawaka Barnes & Noble will not be selling 100 DC Comics graphic novels in their store. In a story from the L.A. Times by Ben Fritz, the bookseller announced it's decision due to the recent exclusivity granted to Amazon.com. As part of the rollout for Amazon's newest batch of Kindle models an arrangement was reached with comics publisher DC to grant an exclusive four month window on 100 of DC's best selling graphic novels. Beginning with the November release of the Kindle Fire, digital copies, many available for the first time in this format, will only be available on Amazon e-readers and devices which utilize the Amazon Kindle app. "We will not stock physical books in our stores if we are not offered the available digital format," B&N chief merchant Jaime Carey said in a statement. "To sell and promote the physical book in our store showrooms and not have the ebook available for sale would undermine our promise to Barnes & Noble customers to make available any book, anywhere, anytime."
