I'm sure you're one that believes in Wind Turbine Disease. And little fairies in the garden. So nice of you to remain unbiased when presenting your 'informed ' opinion.  (Dec 30, 2013 | post #6)

Its called intellectual property theft. Very unusual to get law enforcement to take decisive action that quickly. I'd guess that vendor had been tracked and investigated for a while before coming to our fair.  (Sep 14, 2013 | post #15)

Was this the vendor selling "Beats " branded headphones? Normally well over $100, they were selling for $30?  (Sep 8, 2013 | post #6)

Well I can't fix stupid. You and guest aren't worthy of further responses from me. I refuse to lower myself to your level of intelligence (or lack thereof) . Nuff said.  (Nov 17, 2012 | post #49)

school bus safety?

Boscoe73 brought up a valid point. And, there have been other posts on here about driver safety. I was merely bringing up the point that bus drivers are people too that also make mistakes. Whether it be a bus driver, truck driver, in your family car or on a motorcycle, everyone needs to pay attention. There was a post on the forum about the lane changes on S Main near Espy, Perry and Decatur streets. Agree there too. That can be confusing, especially for those not living in or regularly passing through Kenton. There yet another post about cars that pass using the curb (parking only) lanes as a means to pass stopped traffic to make a right turn. (Mostly around the courthouse square) So folks, it's vitally important for all of us to do our best while driving - watching out for others; stopping for buses loading or unloading; paying attention to traffic signals and laws; kids or adults in the roadway on foot or their bikes. All of this and then you or someone you know will stand up and scream about your rights to text while driving. So let's all just take a moment, stop antagonizing each other on here with "he said" "she said" "you're stupid" and the like. It's not productive in any measure. Grow up, be an adult. If you don't like something, speak up like an adult, take action when and where it is needed. Go to council meetings. Don't like someone in public office? Vote someone else in. All I'm asking is that you try to become more productive and beneficial in your actions and comments.  (Oct 27, 2012 | post #44)

school bus safety?

Read my post again. DID NOT say I had pictures of all 3. You made that assumption. I DID say that IF CSX was onsite, working at the grade OR if KPD or HCSO was onsite and they were allowing vehicles around the gates, that would be okay. THERE WAS NO ONE directing anyone around the gates. ALL GATES in town that I could see were down with no rail traffic seen or heard. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BY R E A D I N G T H E E N T I R E P O S T. There, is that better? I typed slower for you. I did call Ridgemont like I stated. Want my freeking cellphone bill so I can prove it to you? HUH? Within the city limits, it IS up to the donut eating cops. Jail time? Are you kidding me? That's reserved for F1 and F2 in this town. THEN it's only with a letter from the city or county prosecutor's office. We're talking misdemeanor here. Unless there's a train/bus accident in which case, the driver will be dead most likely. And most of the kids. THEN we're talking jail time. Seriously, you need to wake the hell up. BTW I called CSX (800-232-0144, option 2) and reported the grade crossing malfunctioning. Look at the white signs on the crossing signals. Toll free number, two sets of reference numbers/characters to use when reporting. What did you do besides sit in your car and watch the lady drive around the bus and drive thru stopsigns? Here's what you did, " ".  (Oct 24, 2012 | post #37)

On the way home....at least 50% of signs are clearly in easements. That being a judgement call, but I'm seeing them in ditches within 10 feet or so of the road shoulder and in town, between the sidewalk and curb. Neither of us will win on this subject. It's a sticky wicket as this falls under First Amendment Rights.  (Oct 24, 2012 | post #30)

Did a little internet research after getting home.... Political signs are protected by the First Amendment. That being said, here are some quotes from legal sources - The City can regulate the size and location of political signs, with a brochure available explaining these guidelines available at the link below. The City can only request that signs be removed from private property if they are deteriorating or in the public right-of-way. If you believe either to be the case in a neighbor's yard, call Code Compliance at xxx-xxxx. Political signs placed on private property are themselves private property. Theft charges will be filed against any individual found to be taking such signs. The City's Police Division recommends residents place their name somewhere on signs for tracking purposes, so they can be returned to their rightful owner, if stolen and later recovered. Here's a link to an article from an attorney. https://www.fanger law.com/article.ph p?art_id=14 I think we're both right and both wrong. It probably boils down to who we piss off with signs in our yards. Obviously, I pissed in someone's wheaties when I removed the signs from the easement so I could cut the grass. You know how this town/township/coun ty works I hope. They can't quote the law, but sure as hell arrest you first then make you pay to get out of jail before admitting they're in the wrong (if the ever admit it). As far as removing signs from their staked location, it looks like it is illegal regardless of placement. So far as in or out of the easement, I can't find anything specific to that as of yet. I just know what I was told by the deputy - easements are 'owned' by the landowner but must remain accessible for public utilities, etc. I understand that signs aren't a utility, but I as a landowner can't regulate anymore than you what happens within that easement. You can't put a fence up in an easement, can you? There has to be a set-back. It's a mess, I'll grant you that. Ok, here's another example of easement legal crap...can you legally stop 4-wheelers and snowmobilers from using your ditch as a thoroughfare? NOPE. Been there, tried that too. Again, after complaining to the sheriff about folks driving their off road vehicles in my ditch, I was told it's part of the public easement/right-of- way. They can't be on the road, but beside it in the ditch, not interfering with traffic, it's acceptable. So, maybe agree to disagree? HS  (Oct 24, 2012 | post #29)

Do me a favor and tell the Sheriff. His deputy came out and threatened arrest. BTW I'll take hundreds of photos of signs "not in the easement ". Where shall I put them for u to see?  (Oct 24, 2012 | post #28)

school bus safety?

Do have photos of Ridgemont bus #8 going around gates on south Detroit / rt 68 by the Marathon station. Called Ridgemont admin office. Said they'd investigate. Mighty PoPo Dept didn't see offense, declined action. As always, they're "just too busy". Clear photos, gates down. Told that to the school, Kenton PD. Not proof I was told. Like folks say "Kittie city rules"! Guess it'll take a tragedy .....  (Oct 24, 2012 | post #34)

school bus safety?

Well folks, let me throw this one at ya--- You know we've seen the crossing lights/gates malfunction quite a bit in the last couple of months. Well, on more than one occasion, I've seen buses from Kenton, Head Start and Ridgeway GO AROUND THE RR GATES. I've actually been able to take a couple photos with my cellphone and passed them onto the school offices. Never so much as received a reply. The ONLY time ANYONE should go around a gate or ignore the flashing lights is if there is a law enforcement officer there directing traffic around or if a CSX or other RR person is there directing folks around. Now if a gate is malfunctioning and it is causing safety concerns, then stop for a moment at the grade and look for a small white sign at the signal. It'll state the crossing ID number and a toll free number to call. I've called several times. Someone's life might be saved. Maybe yours, maybe the load of kids along with their stupid driver that grew too accustomed to going around flashing lights and gates in the down position. Oh, you can't call the police either about RR grade infractions. Gee, why Mr Hardin Sux? Because that is the problem of CSX. They own that land the RR is on and they have their own police. Bet you didn't know the local PD cannot write you a ticket for going around gates, did you?  (Oct 15, 2012 | post #31)

Did he actually put it IN your yard? Meaning, was in past the standard 15' to 20' street easement? Or was it closer to the roadway - within that easement? If it's in the easement, although legally you own the easement, it's just that - an easement. If it has public utilities (phone, water, gas) then believe it or not, they can post on your property without your permission. By your removing the sign, you have now committed theft. Sound really stupid, I know, but trust me, I went round and round with my township trustee about 5 years ago over the very same thing. The sheriff came out and threatened to arrest me if I didn't return the sign that was put in my yard/ditch inside the easement. You know how kids used to steal the signs at homecoming time and put them in the high school grounds? Theft there too. There's some damn law about these signs that protect them but also limits when they can be posted before the election and how soon they have to be taken down after the election. Keep in mind too that it may not have been the candidate himself, but one of his minions. In either case, take the sign back to their 'campaign headquarters' before they come looking for it and the police come knocking on your door. After all, they'd rather arrest you than the damn druggies here in town. Just trying to help you out....you might think I'm crazy (well, we all know I am!) but like I said, been there already.  (Oct 15, 2012 | post #24)
