Alexander Tax Money

One has to ask why they do not purchase fuel here and/or have their own pumps at the highway dept.? Has the corruption and thieving gotten so out of hand that you can't turn your back for one second without something coming up missing? And the county has a track record of "stiffing " those who have trusted those in the past who have extended them credit. Bad management equals bad business. Bad business equals bad credit. And bad credit equals bad news for tax payers. Well????  (Apr 8, 2014 | post #18)

I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth but I think (and I could be mistaken) that the difference between our County Agency and the State Agency is pretty well defined and obvious. The State Police is: Well trained. Continually trained. Supervised and monitored by educated experienced professional officers. Are accountable for their actions. Have roll models to pattern their careers after. They applied via applications, written exams, oral boards, education, physical abilities, work records and background checks and were selected. The Sheriff's Office is: Well, they're pretty nice guys I guess? Now ask yourself. "Who would I want to come to the aid of my wife or daughter"? Seriously! A professional officer or a guy who seemed nice? (How's that Birdman?)  (Mar 30, 2014 | post #129)

"Birdman " Don't know how you did it but it's an improvement. Thanks! "W a b o r" But the "racist" thing is still way out there. You do make some valid points but are caught up in some sort of race thing? Our elected officials (black & white) are charged with the responsibility of (simply put) watching out for us and they (as well as past elected officials) have done a horrible job. And the key word there is "JOB"! That's what they are paid for, and it wasn't sprung on them unannounced. If they (or anyone else) are being paid for a job that isn't being performed as expected, it's time to go! What is so difficult about that to understand? P.S. I really find it annoying to have to use parentheses to be absolutely sure I don't wonder into the "racist mine field". Please.  (Mar 27, 2014 | post #122)

To answer "over here": When there is no more blood to suck, the leach detaches and leaves the host. And "thanks" , cutting back in every way we can is one step. But actively making Alexander County a more attractive place to bring or start a business is the most important. If it's so expensive to live here, imagine how much it is to have a business here? All our elective officials do now is decide who to "stiff" every month when it comes to paying the bills. When was the last time anyone actually went out and courted a business to come to our county? Once work is available, "they" will come and the tax burden is shared between more. Not really rocket science.  (Mar 27, 2014 | post #12)

Logic & reasoning does not apply here as well as every other level of government. When you write checks from someone else's check book, there is little need to balance the damn thing. Overdrawn? Raise taxes!  (Mar 27, 2014 | post #9)

What an intelligent solution. I bet your head nearly exploded with all that deep thinking going on? Actually, over nineteen thousand others friends and neighbors saw the light and did just that over the last few decades. I guess the thought of living in a county full of geniuses like you was just too much?  (Mar 25, 2014 | post #7)

You make some very good points! I'll try to answer a couple of your questions. If bills are not paid, then the elected officials shouldn't get paid either. Someone isn't doing what they are being paid for! If you are "in the loop", you get paid well. The elected officials don't do it because they love their county. Need I say more? The remedy for this has a name. It's called an "election ". Get involved!  (Mar 25, 2014 | post #6)

First, it's difficult to truly believe you are not from here. Why in the world would you interest yourself then? But for the sake of argument, look up the definition of the word "corrupt ". Now assuming you did, you should know that there are several meanings. Alexander Co. government does not function as it should. Therefore it is "corrupt ". Why? Nepotism, favoritism, theft, politics, waste, do you want more? If you would like an example, how about the 2000 gallons of fuel valued at approx. $7,000 that mysteriously vanished from our highway dept. the summer before last? Didn't hear about that? Not surprised. Like many other events, the tax payer was left dangling on the hook for that also. Wonder why your taxes are so high? Oh, I forgot. You're not from here. Really? Still vague?  (Mar 25, 2014 | post #109)

And you are an idiot, plane and simple! The more that word is used in accusing someone without any justification what so ever, the less meaning it has when there is justification. If you truly wish to silence me or anyone else for that matter, debate the point instead of slinging the vile mud you are use to.  (Mar 25, 2014 | post #108)

Good luck to Jeff or anyone else willing to place a bulls-eye on their back (that's the mobs favorite target) in an attempt to better the county. Let's face it. The ship has slipped under the waves of corruption long ago and has taken any and all chances of a good life for us and our children with it! Pretty much all that's left out of a once populated county of 25,000 good people is 6,200 cronies, cowards and scared to death Mexican Peons who do what they are told when they are told to do it. Like the old saying goes, "The people usually get the government they deserve"! Hummmm? Must have live in Alexander County!  (Mar 24, 2014 | post #104)

Pizza Place in East Cape

The Tiki, Lone Star, Pony, Pit Stop, Electric Cowboy and multiple other locations within our county are in fact owned by the Westlund company. And yes, we all wish other businesses that are a little more conducive to Christian morality & heartland ethical traditions would find their way to our neighborhoods. But those businesses will not set foot in Alexander County and those who reside here who want to invest and start a business will not. We are who we are because we will not get off our butts and grow "a set" and clean up our local government. Businesses in this county are subject to taxes that are nothing short of extortion. Between the union's grip and elected officials, businesses do not have a chance and that's exactly why one can count all the remaining businesses on one hand in the entire county that do not have gambling, liquor, strippers or are linked to these officials. On the bright side, our children (when grown) will know how to "double down", "pole dance", "mix a drink" & be able to find same gender "life partners" right around the corner. Great legacy folks!  (Jan 25, 2014 | post #6)

Magic Numbers?

Here's an instance where I could post something cute like: Thanks for the warning! I'll keep an eye on our little terrier Molly. All I need is a batch of kurr puppies with ring worm and a badge! But I won't do that. :) What I will post is: Every agency pretty much takes on the complexion of its "department head" who in turns takes on the complexion of his/her "local government". If you do not have a professional, educated & experienced leader who promotes integrity, morality and ethics, what do you expect from those below him/her? If you plant potatoes, you get potatoes!  (Nov 25, 2013 | post #16)

Not if but when will it happen?

Yea, I guess you're right. Just pay your taxes and shut up! At least until you can afford to leave like the other 20,000 or so other Alexander County residents have.  (Nov 18, 2013 | post #8)
