Fewer Than 4,000 Machinists Working For Pratt In State

I'm not trying to say that managers don't also deserve fair pay and benefits. I see that they have a lot of responsibility, but so do we as workers. They have to oversee us, but we have to complete the job. And like someone else mentioned, we are not working on menial parts here, we're talking jet engines, propellers, and NASA products. Believe me, I see how many hours SOME of management works. And if THEY don't like the fact that they don't get protection from a union and paid overtime, then they too have the choice to step down and come on the floor with us, just like I have the choice to seek a salary job. I actually have a college education, but this is the best job I could have hoped for, and I enjoy it.  (Nov 14, 2008 | post #78)

To everyone who hates unions: What makes you think that people who are "salary" deserve to make more money than the people who are on the front line, putting the pieces together in order to have something to ship out and sell in the first place? Just because being a machinst does not require a college education does not mean they are not hard working people. And the ones making 90k a year are working seven days a week, often for 12 hours a day! Why? Some feel like they need to in order to make money, but many others work because they are asked due to busy departments that need extra hands to get the job done. Yes, you can call me biased as a machinst myself, but I don't appreciate being referred to as over paid. Have you ever done my job? I'm not saying that there aren't any machinsts out there who are taking advantage of the system, I'm just saying that the majority of us are hard working individuals.  (Nov 14, 2008 | post #68)

Canton Schools' Drug Sweep In June Still Reverberates

Too much of anything probably isn't a good thing. It sounds to me like you are one of the few who became psychologically addicted. People can just as easily become addicted to things like food. A few people over doing it shouldn't ruin the fun for everyone else. I agree that one should not drive while stoned. I too have been in that situation and now I know better than to put myself in that situation again. If you were one of the high schoolers who was there at Canton high that day, do you think you would feel the way you do now? I'm just curious. Clearly we disagree but at least we've been able to do it in a respectful manner  (Oct 14, 2008 | post #400)

To Liberal Female College Students, Palin No Feminist

They do not HAVE To look to third world countries for children. They can look to our over crowded foster homes right here in America. I can't believe so many people judged your comment as positive; have they never heard of over population?! This world already has more people than it can support.  (Oct 13, 2008 | post #209)

Dear Richard, WE don't do anything together. WOMEN are the ones that get abortions, and I certainly wouldn't refer to the painful decision, medical procedure, and feeling of mourning as a "right of passage." Get a clue. And if yo are a woman named Richard, than I apologize for the first part of my statement, but most certainly do not apologize for the second part.  (Oct 13, 2008 | post #208)

Canton Schools' Drug Sweep In June Still Reverberates

In response to Canton Father: Did you read that article carefully? All it says is that MJ MAY slow down your reaction time and MAY lead to other risky behaviors, but in no way states how marijuana itself can lead to an immediate death. THEN it goes on to state that the long term effects of marijuana aren't even known yet, so all they have is speculation! And I didn't look, but if I had to bet I'd say the National Institute of Health is run by the government, so it's obviously going to bend the truth because the government wants us to be afraid of marijuana. You know, I can't help but laugh at the anti-marijuana commercials out now. They even admit that the biggest danger of using is missing out on other things because you are wasting your time being high. They can't even show the drug is dangerous....they simply show that if you are using marijuana, you may be tempted to sit in front of the tv giggling over pink floyd's the wall and eating potato chips. Marijuana users are the least dangerous people in the world. With that said, I recognize that it is still illegal, and while I find that to be completely bogus (especailly considering that far more dangerous drugs like tobacco and alcohol are legalized), I agree that bringing it to school is probably not a good plan, and that the student described in the story did deserve to be reprimanded in some way. However, that is a law that clearly needs to be changed. It's outdated and ridiculous.  (Oct 13, 2008 | post #396)

Tina Fey reprises role as Palin on 'SNL' parodying GOP VP...

Are you kidding? Black people are mocked all the time! OJ Simpson is constantly the butt of jokes, Kobe Bryant, look at what Southpark did to Oprah (which was extremely funny)...R Kelly is mocked by everyone, Tyra Banks on E's The Soup...those are just the ones I could come up with while writing this post. And I never considered the jokes to be racist. You have to do something mock worthy. Maybe THAT'S why Obama has been saved.  (Sep 30, 2008 | post #208)

I don't know how anyone can say that SNL won't make fun of liberals because it is played on a network that is liberal. Do you not remember the years of SNL making fun of Bill Clinton for his relationship with Monica Lewinsky? Those episodes are classic and hilarious. And Tina Fey is equally as hilarious when playing Palin. People wouldn't be so offended if Fey wasn't playing Palin so very accurately!  (Sep 30, 2008 | post #206)

Survey: Doctors Dissatisfied With Practice Environment In...

Seems to me that perhaps we shouldn't be complaining about doctors, even those who make a lot of money, because some day they may save your life or mine. And I like life, so to me, that is worth it.  (Sep 24, 2008 | post #141)

Matt Damon says Palin as VP could end up like 'a really b...

I'm not Matt Damon's biggest fan, never even have seen the Bourne movies, but come on...if he shared your opinion you would be happy; since he doesn't, you're pissed and claim to hate him and that you will never see one of his films again. Get over it. Also, I don't think he is actually a bad actor OR a bad person...for those of you writing he has children out of wedlock and what not, that's just not true. He's married with two daughtes and a step daughter. Anyway, if you hate him so much and find his opinion to be valueless, then why did you read an article that clearly stated it was about him in the first place?  (Sep 23, 2008 | post #925)

Palin's Pattern: Brazen Deceit

Jeez... If this was about how Obama had lied, the republicans would be EATING IT UP like turkey on Thanksgiving. By the way, just because everyone lies, does that make it okay?! That is half of the posts only argument...oh it's okay if she lies and takes money because everyone does it....well show me the proof of everyone! I'm not even an Obama supporter; I just knew what the comments would say before I even read them. I can't wait for the election to be over so everyone shuts their mouths, and half of the population will be inserting a foot into his or her mouths.  (Sep 22, 2008 | post #68)

It's not just experience that comes into play when deciding who will make a better president. I choose based on their platforms, and what they are planning to do to clean up this mess we are in right now. I'm pretty disgusted by the entire thing. If people used their heads, they would go and look through the platforms of not just the two candidates the media show, but of all the other parties nominations as well. People keep writing that they won't vote because they don't like either candidate; well be a responsible citizen and vote for a candidate you DO like. No one wants to spend any time doing a bit of homework and reading the facts, though. I'm also mad about the blatant, immature name calling that is going on. What are we, five years old on the playground? GROW UP. This is a very important election, and you can write the phrase nObama a hundred times, that doesn't make me like him any less, and the same goes for the rotten things said about McCain and Palin. The more name calling your party does, the less I respect you; it's that simple. Don't vote for a woman because you are one. Don't vote for a black man because you are black, and vice versa! I was a full fledged Hillary supporter, but that does not mean I'm going to vote for Palin simply because she possesses a vagina. Finally, give up the double standards! Palin can't do the job because she has kids?! Well, both McCain and Obama also have kids; in fact McCain has 7! I am the first to admit that they are older children than Palin's, but regardless, if Palin isn't a good mother because she wants to be VP despite her family, then the same should be said for McCain.  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #776)

That doesn't mean that he hates women. Not by any means. If you read the article, there are even possible explanations as to why the descrepency is there. McCain pays his men less and has less men working for him...and you didn't write that he hates men. Let's look at BOTH sides, people. I'm so sick of everyone ignoring the fact that there is another side to every argument.  (Sep 18, 2008 | post #717)

um yeah, but the point is, that we DID win. you guys lost, yet somehow Bush still took the white house, because the so-called democracy in this country is one GIANT failure.  (Sep 18, 2008 | post #703)
