Pinon Hills golf fees won't increase as planned

If this is indeed true then I'm totally fine with it. I'm even happy with nearing break even. I'll take your word for it. Color me surprised.  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #19)

Pinon Hills golf fees won't increase as planned

If it indeed pays for itself then I'm fine with that. I'll take your word for it. I'm even fine if it comes very close, but not quite paying for itself. Color me surprised.  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #18)

Pinon Hills golf fees won't increase as planned

It all comes down to where you draw the line. I understand that many services that the city subsidizes is potentially one that adds to our quality of life I support parks, baseball parks, a swimming pool, and even a golf course. But how many do we need as San Juan County citizens. Where is that line drawn in a time when more than 8.5% of our active job-seekers can't find one, and too many that can find one finds that the pay is terrible. Our kids need more things to do...a lot more things in this city. That is a given. The average kid can't afford this activity regularly. So this serves those that are in the least amount of need. Therefore it is a luxury. Is this a good use of funds when it serves a relative few? Could we spend the money better in order to serve many, many more people in the city? The answer is a simple, yes.  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #4)

Unanimous vote gives county ownership of Riverview Golf Course

"In the end, we shift all the costs, but keep all the benefits," Manning previously said. THIS is the key sentence in the entire article. You are welcome...  (Wednesday Dec 16 | post #5)

Schools grapple with effective filters while using laptops

There is no perfect method to block every bad website out there. The district's system is extremely effective and consequences are in place for abuse. Yes teachers need to be responsible if they choose to allow laptop use while in the classroom. A laptop assignment is no different than a pen and paper assignment to me. As the teacher I should be roaming the room to assess and assist my students whichever method is used.  (Sunday Dec 13 | post #3)

REAL ID Act could mean real problems for N.M. travelers

Hillbilly, I see your point but there is a small flaw as I see it. It is impossible to secure borders completely, some will get through no matter how secure the border. I won't look at our southern border but instead look at the northern border. We share the worlds longest peaceful border with a national neighbor with Canada. We enjoy the freedom and the relative ease to pass between checkpoints between these two countries with little hassle. However that very "freedom " creates a risk in "security " and increases the chances an illegal immigrant or terrorist for that matter of getting through. When looking to our southern border, despite a much more heightened monitoring of the border the fact remains that it is VERY long and impossible to guarantee that it will not be violated no matter how many border agents or security cameras we maintain. Ultimately, it is a balancing act between freedom and security at our borders that is being discussed in this article. Every "right" we have as a citizen is balanced by a "risk" to the general population. The feds have realized that another layer must be maintained in order to minimize the risk in this case. This comes at the expense of our rights. Personally, like you, I feel we need to enforce the third layer, which has been there since immigration quotas were assigned and deport those who do not belong. But that hasn't happened, nor has either party demonstrated a desire to do so. We wouldn't be having this conversation had our state government officials complied with the new law's requirements. Our answer, as it always has been, has been to vote into office those who share our desires...even if it is hard, and often fruitless as our leaders let us down time and time again.  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #52)

REAL ID Act could mean real problems for N.M. travelers

I am a right leaning individual and I THOUGHT the same thing. I TOTALLY agree with you SJC, people cannot have it both ways. It annoys me to see many of the posters in this thread argue one way for one issue then take a totally opposite stand on another when the two issues are really one and the same. We NEED more political science and civics knowledge in our schools and universities because people seem not to understand from where they come...  (Sunday Dec 6 | post #50)

REAL ID Act could mean real problems for N.M. travelers

The point that I was making is that this is an over-reaction and a temporary thing. The article says that they have a work around. Ultimately, this is a good thing in that it forces states to be more accountable in issuing an I.D. Yes, it's idiotic that we will be inconvenienced because those who run our state do not wish to comply, but in the end it will secure our country when they are forced to comply. It is our state officials fault for not doing so. In this case, I am with the federal government. I compared it to little green lizardmen because it is ALWAYS a conspiracy theory with certain posters here. It was an attempt at humor that apparently failed. :)  (Saturday Dec 5 | post #26)

Should have typed.... Yes..because knowing a person is EXACTLY who he claims to be is a bad thing when he wants access to a military base, airplane, or government agency.  (Saturday Dec 5 | post #16)
