'World's Greatest Dad' arrested in Internet sex sting

What? Is this a serious post?? Children and teens have greatly reduced impulse control. They also have an inflated sense of being "untouchable " to danger. "It's never going to happen to me, I"m smarter than that." is thought by pretty much every kid in America. They have changing bodies and hormones out of control. They are children who need the protection of adults, not some sicko molesting them. Predators may have changed their STYLE of M.O. in regard to HOW they reach the kids. Used to be parks and playgrounds, now it's the computer. Parents need to monitor their kids on the net at all times. Your guard needs to be up ESPECIALLY in your home. Yes, we need to teach kids self control, respect for their bodies (as well as other people) and warn them against the dangers but that only goes so far. Punishing a child for seeking attention and approval from an adult who is NOT their parent is only going to hurt them further. DO you really want to mess up a child who has been raped or molested? Luckily this did not involve a child, it was adult officers. Sadly, he may have done this before, he could have real victims we don't know about at this time. He obviously has mental issues and is a danger to children in society, if they got him before he met any young kids, perhaps they can stop his behavior and treat it. He has children, I hope they weren't his victims as well.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #85)

14 is STILL 14, moron. I agree that SOME parents don't care, let their kids wear the latest fashions (which seems pretty **** -like on the average) but even if a girl is naked, NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING gives ANY MALE the right to touch her. If you're getting turned on by 14 year old girls then you have problems. Since when does how you dress determine your character? KIDS, especially at that age they are exporing who they are, who they want to be, they experiment with their appearance. While I disagree with 15 year olds in G-strings that hang out over super tight jeans (things some of them put on AFTER they leave the house) they are going to find their style. By your logic the teenage boys who's pants hang around their knees ought to be anally raped-unles you're sexist and feel it only applies to femals.  (Jul 16, 2008 | post #84)

I don't mind change so much but the whole "Let;s fanci-fy everything to look hip" just ruins simple goodness. I've noticed some are missing..did they not switch over?  (Mar 28, 2008 | post #74)

LIO - POETS Day

I see how it is, I turn my back for a few weeks and suddenly *poof* topix has left the Indy Star. And everyone goes into hiding. :D They tried to make the Indy Star site too fancy, it's cluttered and confusing. Perhaps I hate change :) Anyhow..I'm back..sort of..this is all the warning you get. Muahahahahahaha!!!  (Mar 28, 2008 | post #11)

Cops: Man tried to kill wife with bleach

I take it you and Zip It are sniffing out the culprits, fetch boy, fetch! TOPIX WATCHDOGS ARE GREAT! Callous enough for you? If not, I'm a firm believer in spanking children, I'd be more than happy to help your folks out with you.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #61)

Cops: Man tried to kill wife with bleach

I WORK fulltime, run my household with my better half, spend a lot of time with my son, go to school part time, AND still have time for hobbies. (Maybe nto as much as I'd like, but it's too cold and wet for archery anyway.) If people would grow up and show some compassion for the world around them then perhaps we wouldn't have so many people killing each other, their children, stealing, and victimizing others. Just a thought...ever had one of those???? Didn't think so. I may post irregularly but that's because I've things to do and I don't read enoug posts of others each day to formulate what *kind* of posters are guilting, playing on race, etc. I don't have that kind of time, but thanks for being the TOPIX watchdog, good boy! Here's a milkbone.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #60)

Mishawaka man claims devil inspired attack

Or perhaps your information is outdated???? What exactly IS your business? Your credentials? back it up before you try and discredit someone. I have spent MANY years in public services and medication-related fields, pharmacueticals, EMT, and psychology. Thanks for trying, but take your "defense of a looney" elsewhere. If you are "well-read " you'd know the studies and stats. And being well-read doesn't mean first hand experience. This guy is looking for a quick buck and setting up his own defense, possibly hurt his friend because of the gay issue or some other unknown personal reason at this time, or was on some illegal drug(s) or possibly mixed alcohol with his medication. I'd also go so far as to say it's quite possible he had a horrible therapist or doctor who did not properly treat his mental health issues.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #124)

Man arrested; missing VA computer contains patient info

This is the 2nd time this has happened to my better half. Once in Ohio's vet clinic (they got hacked or something and sent a letter saying "Sorry about that, watch your credit rating in the future." He got another from the INDY VA hospital too, ridiculous! Don't these people lock their offices when they aren't in them?? I mean if they were stolen by cleaning crews, after hours, I can almost see how it was hard to avoid but they HAVE security, they have cameras, and they have LOCKS. USE THEM!!!  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #11)

Why would anyone call you a traitor????? This guy is the WORST KIND of traitor, he was a patient there which means he was formerly in the military, right? SO he just made 11,000 of his fellow service men and women at risk for ID fraud. What a JERK!  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #10)

Cops: Man tried to kill wife with bleach

Perhaps he thought if she died he could claim she killed herself. People are nuts these days. I can't imagine the pain and damage to her mouth and face, she could have been blinded. Bleach is a terrible and strong chemical that eats through skin and flesh in no time. It will be lucky if she isn't bleeding in her esophagus or lungs. I think this was incredibly brutal and there really isn't a place for jokes, it's callous. Those poor kids, wow, I cannot even imagine what this has done to them... Have you seen anyone attacked with bleach or acid before? It's vicious and causes permanent damage.I hope this guy goes away for a long time, it's past due that we have more severe penalties for people who commit such brutal acts.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #41)

Mishawaka man claims devil inspired attack

You're right, it puts the body into shock. Your brain and endocrine system try to over produce chemicals to counter the sudden lack of paxil in the body. One has to taper down and then off the medication if they feel it is not working for them. You should give it at least 2-3 months to be sure as it takes so long to build up in the system. There are better medications than Paxil out there for people who TRULY need it, question is, how many people REALLY NEED IT? Vs. how many people THINK they need it...?  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #80)

I can't believe people are actually buying this guy's act. Paxil is labeled for depression, PPMD, anxiety, and panic disorder. It is NOT labeled for people with hallucinations, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorders, or any other mental illness. His myspace page looks pretty sane to me, but as with most serial killers; presentation is often way off from the person's true mental state. The guy he beat up is advertising his homosexuality, I've seen how rough that can be on young men in Indianapolis I can't imagine a smaller town like Mishawaka being much easier. Perhaps a hate crime? This guy is either looking to escape his responsibilities or looking for a quick buck. I hope Glaxo doesn't even bother responding to his allegations. If he had a resonably good mental health professional he was taking what was necessary, or what the doctor *thought* was necessary because of the symptoms he either displayed or complained of. THis guy is a liar through and through, he believed what ignorant druggies "believe " about prescription meds and now he's trying to hide behind it. Paxil doesn't make you high, it doesn't take effect for 14-21 days as it has to build up in yoru system, much liek Prozac. If you miss a pill or take the medicine irregularly it just lessens the effects of the medication greatly. I'm not a fan of paxil because it's side effects can make your appetite, ability to feel joy or various types of emotional stimulus, dampen your sex drive or sexual satisfaction levels and cause things like loose stools and fatigue. Do you know why this is so common? Because people who don't really NEED IT are taking it because they tell their family doc they saw some commercial or read some article and now they are POSITIVE they have this mental problem. The guy who said good diet, exercise, and sunlight is onto something here but not everyone can fix what's wrong using natural treatments. These types of medication are SERIOUS and REAL, it's not aspirin, it's not a crutch, and 75% of the people I've met shouldn't even be taking it. Our society is too focused on "me me me" and not enough on "mutual care and respect" so we pop pills to make ourselves feel better about it. I can NOT beleive this wingnut's story made the paper. And yes, as someone pursuing a career and education (continuing) in mental health, I'm using the word wingnut, because yeah, we use that just not to someone's face.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #79)

Show me your legitimate study proving your statement. Until then you're spewing ignorant remarks and bad information. If you look at the FDA and GLAXO's field studies you'll see that alcohol is a dangerous chemical to mix with people who have mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, and hallucinations. Mixing it with Paxil is hardly a good idea, the doctor, medication insert, and the BOTTLE IT COMES IN all specify not to mix the medication with alochol. Paxil, like prozac, (and many other anti-dep. meds) are metabolized through the liver and kidneys; as is alcohol. Long term use and abuse of both can cause liver or kidney problems that result in total failure. Need I mention that mixing medications with alcohol causes even MORE chemical imbalances?  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #73)

Let it Out

At last! Another female with less than stellar cooking skills like me :) When I got into this relationship it became very apparent that HE expected ME to do some cooking, REAL cooking. I let him know from the get-go that wasn't my specialty but I found practicing with basic ingredients is VERY helpful. I make "cheater " meals lol, where some of it is premade but some of it is not and it comes out really good. Spaghetti Sauce: 2 cans Classico, (Sausage/Onion kind) 2-3 tablespoons of chopped garlic, you can get a big jar in the garlic juice from the produce section. It's good and potent and comes out tender/fresh. **add some juice for good measure 1lb ground beef (97% lean) browned and added to the sauce. Throw in veggies of choice and once it's all hot, lower it to a simmer setting and let it cook for 40 minutes or so. Add noodles, garlic bread, and if you want to go fancy get a salad mix. Very filling meal and will easily serve 5-6 people or give you yummy left over. I also found that coating chicken breast in egg and Itailian bread crumbs, add; oregano, tuscan seasonsing, and dry garlic seasoning and carefully baking it at 325 for about 25 minutes on each side (less if it's small breasts) is pretty easy and comes out very juicy. Red potatos cut, boiled/steamed and add a little butter, garlic, rosemary, or chives is also simple and tasty since red potatos have good natural flavor. Those are my suggestions for easy starter meals. I make this stuff and he loves it (to my surprise lol) and he comes from a very old fashioned Sicilian family who worship cooking and catholicism. :D  (Mar 12, 2008 | post #194)
