Same-Sex Couple Blocked By H & R -- Gays and Lesbians, Tolland ...
Sticking to the *tax* issues, a civil union state return isn't as simple as flipping a switch. Federally, the US government doesn't recognize same sex joint filing, so each individual has to file a separate return. For states that have a joint filing options with a 'partner', the state reture handles the non-recognition of the federal return in differing ways. Most, if not all, state returns start by using information from the federal return. For example, I think (but not 100% sure) that california has a 'fake' federal return prepared as a starting point for the california return. (Mar 26, 2008 | post #81)
HR Block Bank Direct Deposit and Emerald Pre paid Mastercard
My understanding is that if you paid up front and had the IRS directly deposit to the card, then the stimulus will be directly deposited to the card as well. If, however, you had a Refund Loan or a Refund Check (where the tax prepaer's fees were taken out of the refund directly) then you'll recieve the payment as an IRS check. (Mar 20, 2008 | post #662)
hrblock prepaid master card( emerald card)
Hi. Just FYI I read a document recently that said that when TPS withheld the money to repay the emerald advances, it was an estimated amount and in some cases there were small amounts of money still outstanding on the loans. According to the document, if the balance due was under $4, the bank would wave the balance, if it was under $25 the taxpayer could either pay the balance directly or take care of it when they file their taxes with HR Block next year (with no impact to the borrower's credit report). If it's $25 or over, then they need to make arangements with HR Block bank to repay the money. If you're in this situation I'd contact H&R Block's bank for confirmation as I wouldn't trust a message off an internet board alone. (Mar 8, 2008 | post #58)
Doing taxes without paying upfront...
Well, at my H&R Block office, we can do all the returns for the prior year and add the tax prep fees to the 2007 return by doing a billing adjustment. Of course, your refund would have to be enough to cover the cost of the tax preparations. The tax professional adds a $0.03 charge to the Point of Sale system for each return done this way simply to keep the number of returns prepared accurate. The customer is NOT requrired to pay the extra $0.03 charge. Keep in mind that if your 2007 return is rejected or cannot be electornically filed then you'll have to pay all the returns up-front. If you were in my neck of the woods (lawton OK) I'd be happy to help you with it, but I'm sure the HRB's in california can do the same thing. As an alternative, go file one year (2004) right away before the statute of limitations for a refund runs out April 15th. Then use the money you get back from that, go back in and pay for 2005, then 2006, then 2007. -Ed (Mar 8, 2008 | post #2)
Tax firm develops 'Military RAL'
A hundred dollars for a RAL? I've been offering the military RAL, and I've never seen one for even close to $100. It's more like 1 or 2 percent of the refund. (Feb 10, 2008 | post #1)
H&R Block kicks off filing season for taxes
We do tell you your options. I do that with every client. (Jan 27, 2008 | post #2)
Did you purchase the taxcut software yourself? If so, you should be able to get H&R block to reimberse you the interest if the fault was a calculation error. Could you provide details as to what the IRS sent indicating there was a problem? Also, just for my knowldege, when in the tax season did you file? As I've leared the past few years, tax softare is constantly updated and corrected during the tax season as bugs and errors are discovered. I've come to the conlcusion generally you're better to wait till March or April if you have a complex return. (Jan 12, 2008 | post #2)
Hi. Happy New Year to everyone. Looking forward to what is already turing out to be a strange tax season. (Jan 1, 2008 | post #1)
Not to nit-pick, but it wasn't TETR (Telephone Excise Tax Refund) that wasn't finalized by congress until late last year, but instead the extender provisions (Educator Adjustment, Tuition and Fees Adjustment, and the option of using state sales tax instead of income tax on schedule A). These were all extended last year through the end of 2007, and you'll notice that they all have a place on 2007's forms. Also, generally you chose the greater of standard deduction vs. itemized deduction, but in certain states such as Oklahoma the standard state deduction is significantly lower than the federal deduction, so sometimes by "Force Itemizing" their federal return they'll more than make up the increased federal tax with a greater state tax refund. "head of household" and "qualified widow(er)" are two of the most mis-understood tax filing statuses. They're not as they sound to someone not training in taxes. (Dec 6, 2007 | post #112)
H&R Block borrows $75 million, reaching end of credit line
If you go to www.hrblock.com, you can click on "find an office" and put in your zip to find the locations in your area. Chose the "year round offices", they are the ones that will be open now. (Dec 6, 2007 | post #2)
HR Block Bank Direct Deposit and Emerald Pre paid Mastercard
I think it's varying a bit by area. Give your local H&R Block a call and hopefully they'll be able to tell you. (Nov 22, 2007 | post #255)
HR Block Bank Direct Deposit and Emerald Pre paid Mastercard
Sarah, they are doing an "Emerald Line of Credit" for H&R Block customers. Contact your district office (on the business cards in your packet). (Nov 22, 2007 | post #253)
Congressional delay will result in slower refunds
Here we go again...sounds like it could be worse than last season's extender provisions. (Nov 16, 2007 | post #1)
They are having a loan product available; details are still secret, but here is what has been publically released. http://www.hrblock .com/presscenter/p ressreleases/press Release.jsp?PRESS_ RELEASE_ID=1633 (Nov 14, 2007 | post #5)
