Taiwan cannot accept 'Chinese' identity

Not true, Taiwanese speaks a different dialect that are not found in China. They called it Hokkien, the written and reading is the same but speaking is different. BTW don't you mean that Taiwanese culture is a subset of Chinese culture? As China has been around much longer and they are the ones who first moved to Taiwan.  (Sep 3, 2010 | post #1181)

ROFL, so are you essentially saying that I shouldn't comment on any of these forums since I will be coming in middle? LOL, Topix is a public forum, its called public meaning anyone can comment on anything they want so get real. My statement was that if Taiwan claims to be independent from China, why are they holding on to things that belong to the Chinese? If they claim to be independent, they should return the art, pottery, or any other Chinese artifact that they looted in the Civil War. BTW Chinese is not a language its a term to given to people who came from China thus Chinese. The official language of China is mandarin, which the Taiwanese don't speak. You obviously don't know much about China or Taiwan if you say they speak Chinese.  (Sep 3, 2010 | post #1179)

USA Vietnam Frienship Grows--Thanks China!

China never had any intentions of conquering or colonizing any nation. In the Sino-Viet war, China completely defeated the Vietnamese government within a month and withdrew their troops when the their objective was proven. They did not try to stay and install their puppet government. Also had Ho Chi Minh lived, China and Vietnam would never had gotten themselves in War, as Ho Chi Minh and Mao ZeDong were friendly allies.  (Sep 3, 2010 | post #266)

Bill, sometimes it would help if you actually read all the comments, not bits and pieces.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #1173)

Taiwan cannot accept 'Chinese' identity

Never did I declare that only what CCP citizens are Chinese. What I did say was that since the observer stated Taiwanese are not Chinese, then shouldn't they give up the culture that they are no longer part of? Just like how United States do not claim British history as their own, nor their culture. We have our own. This in turn goes for Taiwan, if they claim they are not Chinese, then give back what they looted during the Civil War, develop their own culture and whatever else necessary to say they are not Chinese.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #1170)

If you are so superior than please write or type in proper English Grammar. Also don't being such a dumb-ass and actually do some research, if you are capable of grasping the truth. The sole reason that US reduced its aide and troops in Vietnam was that they realized its a losing war and with no support from the general public, there is no way they can continue the war without the general public revolting against the government. Thus slow withdrawal first money than troops.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #248)

US history books states that Vietnam is a strategic withdrawal not a defeat... Something Congress refuses to talk about even today.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #247)

ROFL do you really think that because they refused to play against you that you are smarter than them? WOW how childish. Look into Chinese culture a bit, they don't play just to prove they are superior but they will when they need to. Its something called being humble, something Chinese do all the time.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #246)

Taiwan cannot accept 'Chinese' identity

If you want to speak identity, then shouldn't the Taiwanese who you claim are not Chinese stop using the language that belongs to the Chinese as well as the culture that are also 100% Chinese?  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #1164)

Taiwan cannot accept 'Chinese' identity

When you say they don't feel Chinese in anyway, can you explain what language the Taiwanese speaks? Can you tell me what language they write and read in? BTW US does not want Taiwan to return to China as that would mean they would lose a strategic location in Southeastern China, as well as a key exporter.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #1163)

Taiwan cannot accept 'Chinese' identity

The only reason Chiang Kai Shrek was allowed to do any of this was that US backed them through out the Cold War, when clearly they lost the Chinese Civil War. US and Chiangs earlier allies fearing another communist state refused to allow the real China, Communist China, the China of the mainland where all its culture and people are to enter the United Nations. Thus allowing a tiny island of 1/100 the size of population to become the representative of the Whole China, including the mainland where they have no jurisdiction. This also lead USSR to leave the UN allowing for UN forces to be directed by US and her allies throughout the Cold War. This was only overturned when new African nations that joined the UN pressured the Security Council numerous times to remove Taiwan representatives and replace them with the real China. Honestly speaking, any form of government where the congress man and women beat up on each other for not agreeing on a issue is not a government at all but a bunch of kids pretending at governing.  (Sep 2, 2010 | post #1162)

Teacher from China happy to be sharing her culture

Both Fun and Resistance are right in saying that China hold US bonds. Chinese banks loan money to US banks which in turn loan the money to the individual mortgage or other needs. Also the Chinese government buy government bonds which allows the US government to run at its current pace. BTW to those that are bashing the Chinese teacher and students, let me ask you what do you score on your SAT, ACT or whatever standardize test out there? The Chinese and other international students who came here to study mostly score in the high 2000s/2400 or close to it. So who truly knows English grammar?  (Sep 1, 2010 | post #79)

Taiwan cannot accept 'Chinese' identity

Not sure what you mean, when you said some teachers and historians claim that Taiwan is the true Chinese culture, when the mainland has always been the symbol of Asian Culture. Historians will tell you that China was always the main culture and it diffuses out to the rest of Asia from there. As for Taiwan, check their passports, no country in this world fully acknowledges them as an independent country. Even their passport says so: "Republic of Taiwan (China)" So there you go. BTW most of the natives in Taiwan, the true natives hate the current government there. Just thought you should know.  (Sep 1, 2010 | post #1149)
