Budget Cuts Could Leave WEAVE In Crisis

Having friends in abusive relationships doesn't give you true insight. You said yourself that you didn't get why your one friend kept going back. Runabout was probably in an abusive relationship, hence the knowledge.  (Jun 11, 2008 | post #18)

Budget Cuts Could Leave WEAVE In Crisis

Exactly. When your self esteem is beaten down to nothing, sometimes the abuser seems like a better option than what they've made you think is out there. Irrational? Yes, it is, but that's the way it goes.  (Jun 10, 2008 | post #15)

Budget Cuts Could Leave WEAVE In Crisis

They're getting money to pay for temporary housing for battered women and children, shelter costs, and food costs, as well as emergency services. You act like all WEAVE is is a suicide hotline or something. They actually do things besides provide a shoulder to cry on. Do some research on it before you open your mouth next time.  (Jun 10, 2008 | post #14)

Budget Cuts Could Leave WEAVE In Crisis

I could have sworn WEAVE stood for Women Escaping A Violent Environment. Stupid me. This is sad that they're cutting funding to WEAVE because a lot of women need their help to get away from their ahole spouses.  (Jun 9, 2008 | post #1)

Gas Average Passes $4 a Gallon Nationwide

Oh, I'm aware of Iran threatening Israel. It's funny that everyone brings up the evils of what Iran is saying/doing, but nobody ever mentions what Israel says/does. Israel is NOT an innocent little country that everyone would like to make it out to be. Why is it that it's okay for America, China, and Russia to have nukes, but the minute anyone else gets them, oh lord have mercy, WE MUST DEMAND THEY STOP! You wanna know why Iran produces so much oil, and we have none of it? Because our government doesn't want to deal with Iran. Same as our government doesn't wanna lift the embargo on Cuba. It would greatly help the economy, but the old geezers in office right now are too stubborn to let go of things in the past. Besides...Iran has more of a right to keep the oil produced in their country than we have the right to demand it from them. I wasn't comparing Iran and Sudan. They're apples and oranges. That's why Dubs is talking about invading Iran (to save the Iranian people along with protecting our country here, aka, they have a ton of oil that they're not sharing, so let's force them to give it up for free.), but he says nothing about Sudan (genocide, rapes, torture, child soldiers...but nothing of value to our economy, or his wallet.). You're blind if you cannot see this. You're a sheep if you believe everything the Fox News Report tells you.  (Jun 9, 2008 | post #30)

Memorial Crowd Clashes with Sacramento Deputies

Jessica and Ashley...this ain't MySpace. You can't post a bulletin asking for picture comments and have your skeezy little 12 year old hooker friends comment on them just because you asked them to. As for the part about "so what if gangsters get in all that gang stuff, it's their life."...wron g. It's their life when they get into the gang, but the minute they sell crank to a junior high kid, burglarize a single mom's house when she's out trying to work to put food on her table for her kids, and hold up a convenience store because they're too f'ing lazy to get a job and pay for stuff, we got problems. It's no longer "their life" when it affects everyone else around them. Their decisions impact everyone. They have no respect for anyone but themselves. They're quite quick to beat down or shoot someone who says anything contrary to what they stand for...that's not respect. What these gang members need is to be corralled and thrown onto an island in the middle of nowhere so they can kill each other until only one is left, and then that one can shoot himself and put the rest of the world out of its misery. Gangs are for lazy people who don't feel like trying to do the right thing. To hell with the "familia " aspect of things...a real family stands by you through thick and thin. A gang "family" will abandon you the minute you get locked up. The sad thing is, I know a 16 year old whose father is in a gang, whose cousin was in a gang and got killed for it, whose boyfriend is in a gang and spent 6 months in jail over it, and yet, she seems to think it's a-okay for herself to join this same gang. If I knew I could get away with it, I'd kick the s--- out of her so maybe some sort of sense would be implemented in her brain. Live by the sword, you die by the sword.  (Jun 9, 2008 | post #58)

Gas Average Passes $4 a Gallon Nationwide

Hence why my mom has driven hideous compact cars the entire time I've been aware of what she drove. The last car she had got like 42 mpg. She got a new car because the old one died and this one gets about 39 mpg. I feel little sympathy for people who try to strike up a conversation with me at the gas station when I'm filling up my tank and they're pumping $150 worth of gas into their Suburban, and they just wanna complain about the price of gas. They had to get the biggest beast of a vehicle to haul their 2.4 children around, even though a Toyota Corolla would've gotten the job done just fine, but they insisted on getting the huge vehicle because it's safer in their eyes. I rarely go anywhere anymore because of the price of gas. The AMPM down the street from my house was at $4.38 a gallon when I checked this morning. I'm sure it's gone up 20 cents since then. When it comes down to buying gas for your car or paying your SMUD bill each month...I choose the SMUD bill, because I can walk or ride a bike to where I need to go, and if it's too far, I can always take light rail. Good luck trying to heat your bath water with a candle when your SMUD gets shut off. As for the supply and demand I've seen others speak about...demand is going down along with supply, but the cost keeps rising. I'm all for nuclear energy if it means we become self-sufficient... but this crisis we're in does not justify causing mass extinctions of species in the wild just for a hope that MAYBE there's oil in this part or that part of Alaska. BTW...anyone find it amusing that our government is talking about Iran being a threat (one of the top oil producers in the world) to the US populace and suggesting pre-emptive strikes to "prevent tragedy like 9/11"...but people in Sudan are killing each other left and right, weapons are being bought and sold to God knows who, women and little girls are being raped and burned alive...but our government doesn't care...why's that? Oh...because they have NOTHING WE WANT. They can use the excuse of "Iran is threatening us by not disposing of their nuclear capabilities. " all they want, but when was the last time we invaded a country that had nothing to offer us in terms of economics? Sorry to stray so far from the topic. Good on you, Juan, for not wearing wool and baaa-ing.  (Jun 9, 2008 | post #20)

Protesters Videotape Customers at New Vacaville Sex Shop

I could totally understand them protesting if this was a liquor and hooker store, but it's not. It's a store that sells sex toys, lingerie, and yes, porn, but the people filming the customers could, in theory, be sued if they put the footage on YouTube, given they failed to get a signed release from the people they filmed. Just because they're not filming a movie or a TV show does not mean they can put whoever they want on on the internet. Frankly, this "Secrets " store sounds no worse than the two Kiss N Tell stores here in Sacramento. I've been to both of those, and not once have I seen dirty old men wearing trench coats in there, buying gallons of lubricant and boxes of condoms, and I surely haven't heard anything about rapes being committed due to the stores being where they are. Buying a vibrator has NEVER hurt anyone. If anything, they help who bought it. These people need to find something better to do with their time...ie, get a job and worry about themselves instead of protest about what other people are doing.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #3)

Voters Will Have Final Say on Gay Marriage

You must not be aware of sterility. A man and a woman can only reproduce if both are fertile. If the man has a very low sperm count, good luck on the woman conceiving. If the woman has bad eggs, or a bicornuated uterus, again...good luck conceiving. The fact that everyone goes right back to the same two arguments as why they're against gay marriage is ridiculous. "Gays can't reproduce!" - Neither can women who have gone through menopause, but grandmas keep getting married every day. "It's a sin!" - It's a sin in YOUR religion. Not everyone follows your religion. Deal with it.  (Jun 3, 2008 | post #62)

Voters Will Have Final Say on Gay Marriage

Funny you should be from San Fran, Rev Dan. Wouldn't that put you in the pits of Hell, what with San Fran being known as one of the world's biggest homosexual hangouts? Surely you can make your own opinion, and not just spout biblical rhetoric all the time, yes? I suppose next you'll try telling us that dying ones hair a different color is against God's will, given he has a set color palette for hair, and dying your hair neon green would be an ultimate slap in the face. Judge not, lest ye be judged.  (Jun 3, 2008 | post #61)

Argument Leads to Fatal Sacramento Shooting

See, this is what I was looking for. Someone who lives the life that actually knows WTF they're talking about. You stopped speaking like an idiot thug and you used your brain. I do take exception to one thing you said, though...it IS the fault of the gang members that they are in a gang. You can't always blame the parents for the choices their kids made. Yeah, the parents messed up by not telling them "No, that's not a good thing.", but ultimately, it's up to the kid himself to decide what path he wants to take in life. If he wants to take the easy way out and earn a quick buck by selling meth to 13 year old kids, that's his choice. If he wants to go to school, do well in his classes, and work his way up from the bottom, ie, get a job at KFC or Burger King until he's done with high school, great. Otherwise, he will become just another statistic. Man was born with a brain. Their environment will shape the way they think, but it won't control them. Blaming the parents is just an excuse to not take responsibility for your actions. You seem to have some knowledge of how things work. Use it for good, because last time I checked, there were only one or two 65 year old men rolling around in wheelchairs that used to be gangbangers. The rest died years ago. I have very little sympathy for someone who chooses a path of drug abuse or gangmembership. It catches up to you sooner or later, and when it does, they ALWAYS blame everyone else but themselves. There are also people who just choose to be lazy and get money by popping out kid after kid so they can get a check from the government every 3rd of the month. I have no sympathy for them either, especially when they whine about how their kids don't respect them. You get respect by earning it. Work hard and do the right thing, you get respect. Fear is not respect. Intimidation is not respect. Hustling is not earning respect.  (Jun 3, 2008 | post #90)

Argument Leads to Fatal Sacramento Shooting

Actually, Einstein...last time I checked, there were three different gangs. Rosemont Crips. Lincoln Village Bloods. East Side Piru. Oh, not to mention the Russians got their own gang as well...except they usually don't like to call it a gang. They're just "banding together to defend the motherland.". Whatever. Maybe in your little fish bowl, there's only one gang. That's pretty naive of you. Considering I lived majority of my life in either Rosemont or College Greens, you're acting like every single idiot that waltzed through that section of town was just a visitor repping their hood when they'd go "Sup, bluuuh?" or "Sup, cuzzz?". Hell...you gonna tell me the kid that got shot 9 or so years ago on Huntsman and Parfait wasn't in a gang? If, as you state, there's only ESP in Rosemont and LV, wouldn't that mean his own gang shot him in the heart of its territory? Hmm? Thought not, because that would make you stupid, and as we all know, gang members are the smartest people in the world and acknowledge when other gangs are present in their territory. BTW...WTF is keeping it trill? You sound like a Three 6 Mafia song, and not in a good way. Speak English.  (Jun 2, 2008 | post #76)

Parental Notification Measure Makes California Ballot Again

Easiest route? In this case, the easiest route would be to actually have the kid and put it up for adoption. The psychological impact of an abortion on the psyche of a woman, let alone a minor, is tremendous. The only "easy" part of it is that it ends quicker physically. Psychologically, it lasts forever. I've witnessed too many of the girls I knew in school have to go through the aftermath of an abortion. They did not handle it well at all. Later on, when they've decided to actually plan a pregnancy, the abortion they had as teenagers comes back to haunt them because they think "What if I hadn't had that abortion when I was 15?", and sometimes, they wind up not being able to have kids at all BECAUSE of the abortion. It made them sterile. Now...I'm not going to go and talk about the "worst case scenario" of fathers raping daughters and whatnot, but I will say this...if a 15 year old girl is having sex with a 19 year old guy, the parents have already failed. If the parents don't know the guy is 19, they're dumb as bricks or are too interested in keeping the peace to say anything. In that case, why should the parents have a say in what their daughter does after she gets pregnant, if they didn't want a say before she got that way? I've said it before and I'll say it again...not every parent out there is going to take the news of their daughter having an abortion in a rational way. Daughters get beaten black and blue by some parents for getting pregnant, and the abortion factor makes it worse. Daughters get kicked out on the street. Daughters get killed. Daughters get disowned. Any number of things can happen. Sometimes, the parents think they can teach their daughter a lesson by forcing them to have the baby and raise it. What lesson does this accomplish? That she screwed up and wasn't allowed to fix the problem early on, so now she has no chance to continue her education or focus on going to college so she can get a good job? It's not as black and white as everyone is trying to make it seem. Witness it in front of your own eyes and you will see the grey areas.  (Jun 1, 2008 | post #16)

Memorial Crowd Clashes with Sacramento Deputies

Hunny, my screen name is my actual name. Also, I do tell people who are acting like morons that they're acting like morons. I've gone on light rail and had a group of 17 year olds (give or take) drowning out everyone else on the train with their yelling and over-exaggerated laughing, even though the people they were "talking " to were right next to them. I've walked up and asked "You wouldn't happen to be deaf, would you?" and when they go "What you said??", I've told them "I thought so.". When they chose to get in my face over it, I simply, and calmly, told them "I realize you're having fun by kickin' it with your friends. However, when they're sitting right next to you, there's NO REASON someone at the opposite end of the train car should be knowing how your man just got out of jail for dealing and you're planning on going to his house and having sex with him all night to prove a point to his baby mama.". Not only does it anger them that I've said anything to begin with, but I've just embarrassed them AND I said it in a calm manner and never raised my voice. If there's anything worse to ignorant ghetto trash than embarrassing them, it's them not being able to get a rise out of you. Now...just because YOU took offense to what I said...that means absolutely nothing to me. Why would I go out of my way to meet with someone I wasn't talking to just to tell them what I've already said? I try not to be a broken record, and this would, in fact, make me just that. Me being racist on the internet is just as dumb as you trying to be intimidating on the internet. You can call someone out all you want, but the simple fact is...not everything has to resort to violence. The simple fact that you're pretty much threatening a female because she spoke her mind (whether on the internet or in public) is sad. I'm not trying to tell people they have no right to think the way they do. I have my beliefs and actions, and you have your beliefs and actions. I don't care if you beat your wife or kids, and I don't care if you are proud of living in the ghetto. I also don't care if you're of the "Brown Pride" crowd. If the latter is the case, you're no better than I am. I point something out about black mourners, and not once did I use a slur, and you come out of nowhere and call me white trash. Now...that, last time I checked, was the pot calling the kettle black.  (May 31, 2008 | post #42)
