Stop Maryland's season of cruelty: fall bow hunting -

Over 95,000 posts and not one AR has posted any cost-effective, viable alternative to hunting. Over 95,000 posts and not one AR has provided any meaningful dialoge to this forum. Over 95,000 posts and all we see are name-calling, slander, and emotional diatribe.  (Yesterday | post #124233)

Sorry that it has taken so long to respond. Between work and hospital, I was out of it for awhile. Sorry sweatheart, that plan that I posted is a direct, and immediate, response to the ARs fantastic plan of eliminating hunting. You just can't grasp the fact that animals breed and populate faster than you think. What "real" predators? Those that are JUST NOW being reintroduced? There isn't enough of them to make a diffence.  (Yesterday | post #124232)

Do Animals have Rights?

Yes, I am aware that animals are raised in this type of environment. Yes, I am aware that animals are fed growth hormones. No, I don't buy my chicken out of the store, I get it directly from the farmer. I know how he raises his chickens. It's still a necessary evil in order to feed the world. You are aware that we do that, right?  (Yesterday | post #56)

Any time in the woods is a good time. I've not seen anything for over two weeks. I put a camera out on 11 NOV and got some good night shots of a couple roebucks and a doe. I'm looking for the hogs, but they are staying away right now. Tomorrow is a drive hunt. Red deer, roe deer, pig and fox. We'll see what happens.  (Monday Nov 16 | post #120949)

This is simplified wildlife biology math. The numbers have been taken directly from various education websites. This is why we hunt. Year 1: animals reproduce (1 doe + 1 buck = 1 fawn - 3 deer total). Year 2: animals reproduce (2 does+ 1 buck = 3-5 fawns - 6 deer total)- Doe 1 is 2 years old and will produce twins (min), triplets (sometimes), quad (rarely). Year 3: animals reproduce (4-6 does + 2 bucks = 10-14 fawns - 16-22 deer total) Does 1 and 2 are 2+ years old and will produce twins (min), triplets (sometimes), quad (rarely). Year 4: animals reproduce (12-17 does + 4-5 bucks = 24-29 fawns - 40-51 deer total) Does 1 - 4 are 2+ and will produce twins (min), triplets (sometimes), quad (rarely). Year 5: animals reproduce (32-41 does + 8-10 bucks = 68-92 fawns - 104-143 deer total) At what point do the animals begin to die of starvation and disease? What is humane about letting that happen?  (Monday Nov 16 | post #120947)

I want to make sure I understand this. Killing an animal for meat is bad, but you eat meat. Is that right?  (Monday Nov 16 | post #120943)

Please answer these questions: 1. What do you propose as a cost-effective, viable, non-lethal method of wild animal population control? 2. How do you propose to reduce the amount of wild animal deaths that occur during the harvesting of grains and vegetables by combines and other harvesting equipment? 3. Since AR groups seem to desire to have everyone convert to veganism, how do you propose to feed 100% of the world's population, while maintaining the status of questions 1 and 2?  (Monday Nov 16 | post #120938)

It's the AR SOP. 1. Find something that says bad things about hunters, but don't read the entire article. 2. Post the link where a hunter can/will read the entire article. 3. Blow smoke and use mirrors when pawned. 4. If all else fails, run, hide and hope that they will forget. 5. When you return, blow more smoke and use more mirrors to distract the hunters from topic.  (Friday Nov 13 | post #120619)

Commentary: Deer hunting has evolved over the past 30 years

I still go out in a tent. I may have a Coleman stove, but then again, I may not. I teach as many kids as I can how to survive using the bare necessities. It's more an opportunity to return to what we had, and I enjoy that. Don't get me wrong. I look forward to a hot shower, my TV, my computer, my bed and a well-cooked meal; but, I can do without for a couple nights/week.  (Friday Nov 13 | post #8)

Yeah, choices are great. I choose to hunt. You choose to kill pets. Which one is ethical?  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #120613)

Do Animals have Rights?

Actually, we would still need the "factory farms". The US is the main supplier of meat around the world. Since the human population has expanded so much (not just the waist line), the need for meat has also increased. There is not enough land in Europe to supply everyone, parts of Africa, South America, and Russia are not, climate-wise, right for raising critters, Japan and Southeast Asia are both too small and not climately right. I'm not saying that the population of the US shouldn't reduce the amount of food they eat, but that includes all the veggies on the plates, as well as the meat portions.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #42)

Do Animals have Rights?

Thank you. I've not had problems with any of my animals. They are all well behaved and listen, for the most part *L*. I learn how to train animals from my father, and he from his grandfather. I continue to learn on a daily basis, simply because all pets are different. They have different attitudes, mind sets and energy levels; all of which require different methods of training. My pup is 16 months old and is great on a trail. She loves going hunting with me. When I go to get the rifle, she is beside herself with anticipation.  (Thursday Nov 12 | post #41)
