Alan Duff declares bankruptcy ... in a French chateau

Hello Erana, I understand your comments a little clearer now after spending a few hours reading some posts on other threads. Very interesting debates going on hereSome of these threads sound like an adult version of the The Butter Battle Book, or another chapter in the age long debate over nature vs nurture. Either way, something I do not wish to hear about. I enjoy getting on with living.  (Jul 3, 2011 | post #19)

Meat Loaf coming

"So mow Im praying for the end of time, To hurry up and arrive, 'cause if I gotta spend another minute with you, I don't think that I can really survive." Some great lyrics from Meatloaf. Wonderful, I will be looking forward to hearing this legend live. Great news. I remember going to the cinema for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the first time I saw Meatloaf. Hot pattootie bless my soul, I really love that rock and roll.  (Jun 30, 2011 | post #1)

I am not into racism. I commented because I felt sorry for my friend who put a lot of effort into making books for Allan Duff and is now out of pocket. I'm not trying to say he was bankrupt because of his race. I was just upset he had the money to fly across the world, and enjoy the jet-setters life, while he head debts to pay. That's all. Please don't think I have something against his race. Like I said, I have Maori friends and they are good people to me. I would go out of my way to help them. Sorry if I offended people here. Not my intention.  (Jun 30, 2011 | post #15)

What is a gravy train? I have not heard that before and Wikipedia was a little vague. "Riding the Gravy Train", an expression that means that one has an easy life" or "“So, you’re riding the gravy train.” This phrase is generally used interchangeably with terms like “sitting pretty,” or “living on Easy Street.” It means your life looks good and seems to be pretty easy, as far as the other person is concerned. " Is this correct? Because you are right, Allan Duff was 'sitting pretty' in France until he declared bankruptcy. Sorry to keep on about him, but gee, his actions will cause my friend's business some difficulties over the next two years as he tries to recoup his losses. The worst thing about the situation is that he never told my friend he was on the verge of bankruptcy.  (Jun 30, 2011 | post #12)

Should the Kahui family all get charged for the murder of...

I for one, have stopped my car and gone to assist people in trouble. I can not stand by and watch. Last year I saw a young lady running down the road crying and bleeding. There was a man running after her, it was 3am in the morning. I was in a cab and asked the driver to stop. I got out, meter still running, and went to help the lady and to see what was going on. I had a few words with the guy and that was the end of it. I have also had to have words with a man I saw hitting his young child, slapping her in the face. I was very upset, I turned around and told him to stop. He got angry at me, but, I made it clear to everyone that what I saw was abuse and NOT acceptable. I can not or will not sit by and watch poor children, women or innocent people get hurt. Even if you feel scared to intervene directly, there are other ways to help. You can call the police anytime. I understand how hard it is, especially if you know the people involved, but it must be done. saying nothing, doing nothing could mean a child's life. Please don't think I'm attacking you, I understand it is a hard thing to do.  (Jun 30, 2011 | post #3)

I remember that movie. I did not think much of it other than it was just another violent action movie. I read his books. They were better than the screen play. There was violence, it seams it was all Maori people fighting other Maori people. I have a friend who is a Maori. He's not like that, but he said there are some areas of New Zealand that are like this. Allan Duff owes my friends company a few thousand dollars. It doesn't look likely that he will see any of his money.  (Jun 30, 2011 | post #11)

Scotch free? I'm don't know what that means. Yes, punish EVERYONE who killed these kids.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #1)

I was mostly not happy with this last statement in the paper, "Since leaving New Zealand, Duff has made several trips home to Havelock North. He joined the prestigious Hastings Golf Club in 2009, sparking outrage among his creditors." Only a fool does that sort of thing. That's what I meant by my first post.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #4)

No, it is because he spent millions of dollars he did not have, yet he lives in France in Chateau de la Doree in an attempt to pay his debts off. He would have been better to stay in NZ where his fan base and or debts were located. What was he doing in France? Trying to hide from his debts? Trying to avoid them by being out of the country? I'm not sure what your "true nature of the Maori?" statement means. Sorry.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #3)
