Randon Question Thread

i would like to say that invasion of zombies! but truly, i think that my biggest worry for the future is apathy. the simple fact that people seem to care less and less about the state of the future unless it has a direct effect on them. this apathy in general is what i worry about, the fact that people care less, are less educated and seem to have no sense of a global consciousness. i fear that if people continue to live in a bubble of apathy they will not actively find solutions unless it is something that involves them. yet at the same time, sometimes even that is not enough. people know about global warming, deforestation, pandemics, obesity, etc yet the vast majority actively CHOSE to turn a blind eye and do absolutely nothing. that worries me. what is your favorite way to relax?  (Yesterday | post #425)

The Rook Review

woohoo, David and Gaz, I can finally weigh in on "Let the Right One in". As I said to David, it took me a day and a half to devour it, so that is a good sign that i liked it! I also tried to find the movie online but have not yet located a good version so i will keep trying! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it had many layers to it from an emotional point of view, yet it was also a page turner from a plot or storyline. My only critiques are that the pedophilia seemed at times to be more sensational. i understand that much of it was to portray hakken as a degenerate and hand maiden that had no hope until Eli arrived in his life. it had that effect certainly, however i don't think it was needed. as well, along those lines, the genderlessness also did not seem to have a direct effect on the story to me. i liked the characters of the book, but will admit, hehe with so many swedish names i was confused a bit in the beginning trying to keep them all straight! i must say though, i did not interpret the ending in the same manner. i thought there was more of a caring aspect between oskar and eli then there was between eli and hakken. hakken had to beg for intimacy which he never received whereas with oskar, eli was the instigator. i interpreted this to mean at the end that they had a connection and that eli had genuine feelings towards oskar. eli also saved oskar where he did not do the same for hakken. overall, a very good recommendation gaz!  (Yesterday | post #58)

Happy Thanksgiving

travel can take a lot out of people, i think that there is such adrenaline and such a build up as you take the plane, then it tapers off and as you get to where you are going the nerves and butterflies find you! but you are right, there are obstacles and hurdles that you will find your way though. as i am personally navigating through a difficult situation in my life i always remember...." What is IN the way, IS the way. :)  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #45)

I must admit, we do not have the AARP here! hmmm, if we did, do you think it would be called the CARP? That would be kind of cool and definately an organization to get behind. by the way, did you ever go see "Goats"? My dad gave it two thumbs down!  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #371)

Hey Genevieve

haha, no bobbie, it is not a secret! i am off to mexico for some time off! i tend to go there a fair bit, i truly love it there and feel completely at ease. the diving should be good, i still want to do a night dive, but the timing may not work, as well my sister does not dive so that makes it hard for her. but we will find other things to do i am sure! i can't wait to go, time off could not come soon enough!  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #22)

Hey Genevieve

Tony, I really hope that you are able to find a great deal and get a ski trip again this year, i remember how much you enjoyed those mini-breaks last year, it would be a shame. but i know that finances are much different for many of us compared to last year and things like food and a roof have to come first!  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #21)

Randon Question Thread

we don't have black friday here. because our thanksgiving is in October there is not an association to the holidays and shopping. while i love black friday when i am states-side, it is not something that we have here, our shopping is more focused on boxing day! what is on your bedside table?  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #414)

Happy Thanksgiving

I am so glad to hear that it went well and that you had a fabulous time together. Following your heart can be difficult, but without great risk there is no great reward, so i am glad that you took such a leap of faith! When do we get to see the photo album of your travels?!?!? :) Yes, distance is a tough thing, distance and expensive plane tickets are a reality, but i am sure you will find a way! :)  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #39)
