Judge overturns California's ban on same-sex marriage

If SCOTUS declines to hear the case then the Appellate court ruling stands, and same sex marriage, again, is legal in California.  (Sep 25, 2012 | post #160810)

To bad you're short on facts. You don't raise taxes (which is what letting the Bush tax cuts expire is) in a major recession border on a depression. The Bush tax cuts, were never paid for by offsets in any other budget item. The 2 Bush wars, were never paid for by Bonds or offsets in any other budget item. So when President Obama took the oath of office, he was alreayd facing a huge deficit. Now, most of the nations and the worlds economists, think that Pres. Obama's ARRA did not go FAR ENOUGH!! Yes, it added to the deficit but as economists have noted, with interest rates at historic lows (banks lending to banks almost free) and a nation of skilled and UNemployed workers, you spend on infrastructure to slow the recession, thereby easing the burden on unemployment rates and claims and spurring very modest growth in a variety of industries. Essentially, this is money the government spends on the private sector that increase tax revenue to the federal government. I'm no fan of Bush and I do find plenty of fault with Obama. This is NOT a "lib" or "conservative " issue, it's not a Dem or GOP issue, this is a national issue that goes beyond your petty politics and name calling. The GOP House especially, can't point to but a very rare few compromises with Pres. Obama. However, there are many ideas the President has put forward that were GOP ideas during the Bush years, that the GOP House shot down as dead on arrival. Why? WHY? Because the GOP House, refuses to compromise even on ideas that they proposed a few years ago, because they'd have to agree with a Democrat and they'd fear for their own jobs. Compromise between the parties, between people, is what makes this nation great! Eric  (Jun 6, 2012 | post #573)

The President had little choice. Allowing those deficit inflating tax cuts to expire would have harmed the economy even more that the Bush debacle had already done. Why is it that when these tax cuts were created, most of the GOP did not ask for concurrent spending cuts? I suppose you thought the rest of us had short memories?!? Oh, and have you looked at spending increases in the Bush years? Where were the deficit hawks of the GOP then?! You all remained silent. You said and did NOTHING. You stood by and watched the deficit inflate at an unsustainable rate. Even when GOP groups like the Cato Institute raised red flags, you did nothing. In fact, during the Bush years not only did you reduce taxes while increasing spending (try that at home for a few years), the GOP then pushed not 1 but 2 unfunded wars, and reduced the legislative oversights that fueled the housing/banking bubble that burst in early 2008. The GOP planted those seeds and they bloomed with a vengence and then when a democrat was elected, they sat back and did more nothing and blocked steps to do anything that would have been helpful to the People of this nation. Before anything, we are all citizens of this nation. My party choice, does not define me and those we elect, work for me and you and all of us, regardless if we voted for them or not. Collectively, they have failed us. Eric  (Jun 5, 2012 | post #501)

First off, this is not "horrible ". Horrible is what happened to Joplin and the towns and cities and people during and after Katrina. What this actually is, is neither good, nor bad. Look. In 2008, the banks and the housing market, collapsed. Pres. Bush took some steps to stave off disaster, but only minor steps, as his own party worked to stop the major steps available to him, because they did not want to increase spending and taxes, because they feared their own Tea Party wing. President Obama, took additional steps, but again, did not go far enough. Again, it was the GOP Congress members, largely held by the short & curly hairs by the Tea Party, that prevented all the necessary measures from being taken. In the subsequent 3 years and 4 months, with interest rates at historic lows, with the nations infrastructure in desperate NEED of repair, GOP House and Senate members have blocked every instance of the Federal Govt. (President Obama) from engaging in these needed repairs. You borrow money for public projects at time when interest rates are low AND THEY ARE LOW. That spurs jobs, funded by public dollars and SPENT IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. That helps stabilize the economy while the banking and housing markets themselves correct for their failures by putting people to work. Some will argue that this increase the deficit. Yes it does. Yes, I'm admitting that this spending will INCREASE the deficit, which DOES NEED to be reduced. The choice is, do you do these projects when borrowing money is low and wages are low (because people with NO job will work for less than they did in good times, just to work, that's fact) or do you wait when borrowing costs are higher and wages are higher?!? The projects MUST be done. You can choose to wait until we see another Mississippi River or other bridge collapse, but is the life of your loved one worth that?!? Of course not. The fact remains the GOP has turned "compromise " into a mortal sin. Compromise in Government is actually leadership. It's following the will of the People and giving them WHAT THEY NEED to be able to live their lives, by insuring the private sector can engage in commerce. The GOP has failed the People of this Nation, ALL OF US, in this. Has the GOP even offered to reduce House and Senate salaries? No! Has the GOP even offered to give up their taxpayer paid health insurance, which is among the best in the world and is for life? No! Has the GOP used the threat of filibuster to deny even committee discussion of many of the Presidents proposals? Yes! Gone are the days of Liberal Republicans and Conservative Democrats that represent the middle of the population. We need them back. Congress - and the President - need to remember, you don't work for your Party. You actually work for citizens of the United States, Democrat, GOP, Green, Libertarian, Socialist and more but citizens all and citizens first. Eric  (Jun 5, 2012 | post #500)

Thousand Oaks, CA

Election Poll, June 2012 - Thousand Oaks, CA

Having been handed a failing economy, President Obama first prevented an economic depression and has, despite GOP intransigence and refusal to cooperate to the benefit of the People of the Nation; slowly moved the nation out of recession. Yes, the economy is still weak and there remains much to be done. President Obama has adopted many of the policies GOP from both Bush Administrations and the GOP has even failed to to adopt those. Mitt Romney has moved so far to the right, taken so many positions on positions, it's impossible to know where he stands, or where he will, should he become President. I am not thrilled with President Obama. There is much he has failed to do and much more that he SHOULD BE doing. He should have ended both wars sooner. He should have pushed for a better Healthcare bill. He should have pushed through more national infrastructure projects (hey, if interest rates are at historic lows, now is the time to repair the nations highways, bridges, rail line, airports and harbors - when it's as cheap a loan as you'll get and you have people who need jobs who will work for less!!). Mitt Romney says he's for smaller government but does not back fair pay for women and wants more government programs that invade womens rights. Mitt Romney would slash veterans benefits. That's not how you repay our warriors. Neither candidate has a decent immigration policy and neither a decent plan to reduce the cost of eduction. Of the 2, Pres. Obama has the slightly (hold your nose) plan on education and immigration. I will vote for Pres. Obama - and then hold his feet to the fire. Eric  (Jun 5, 2012 | post #1)

I am a Gay Jew who has family that survived the Sho'ah (Holocaust) and family members that perished at the hands of the NAZI's. I prefer a Ghandi Salt March approach. Stage an event, invite the press, and let those in their hate do what they will, for that will destroy them. Yes, some will be hurt, some will die, but it works and it defeats evil. I've been 'out' and an activist for LGBT rights since 1976 all across this nation. By responding in kind, we only lower ourselves to their level, and I refuse to be like "them". When I publicly acknowledge their right to speak, even evil as they do, when I publicly declare their EQUAL HUMANITY TO MY OWN, I take their power and make it mine! People see that decency, that dignity, that respect, and they realize I'm not taking anything away, I am in fact, living my ethics, my principles and my morality in real life. The evil wingnuts, can't defeat that truth. If they kill me, they make me a martyr. I'm still alive and I'm still speaking truth about evil and I am respected for it. My best to you and don't succumb to their evil. Eric  (May 23, 2012 | post #33)

Judge overturns California's ban on same-sex marriage

Not in the constitution but established with "Marbury vs Madison" and upheld ever since. You are way out of your league on this. Eric  (May 21, 2012 | post #141911)

Always with the false dichotomy are you. Here is what the law does, especially constitutional law - it says that if you make an argument for the rights of the majority, you must ALSO grant those same rights to minority citizens, unles and IF you can prove a compelling interest to not extend those rights. You have admitted that all things heterosexual are a choice, EQUAL to homosexual and in your admission you prove that there is no compelling interest to deny CITIZENS who are homosexual their rights. You proved us right. Oh and while the law protects you from a state religion, it acknowledges you are not born with it, religion always being a choice. Eric  (May 21, 2012 | post #141910)

Thank you for admitting that heteros do everything you claim that gays do. There are hetero pride events, called weekends in Las Vegas or other places. Spring breaks. There are hetero sex clubs and bathhouses. So yes, they are all choices, and yet, Heteros get legal protections and YOU argue that making those SAME CHOICES, that gays should not. You've proven your hypocrisy in the matter with your own words. Well done! So, the question remains, what legal basis do you have to deny CITIZENS who are homosexual, their rights as EQUAL CITIZENS in this nation? You have none. You never have. California's Gay Marriage Ban Overturned

Oh yes. Let's mention "History ". There was the history of the "right" of "might" in which the strongest warrior was leader of the people and the people had zero say in anything. There was the "right" of Kings, Divine Right, in which the Monarch ruled because God had given them the right by birth. Your rights? Whatever the King or Queen gave you. Marriage, historically, has been one man and as many women as that man can afford. Marriage, historically, was where a man PURCHASED a wife or wives (or was sold - bride price or dowery). But there have been cultures ancient and new, that simply allowed homosexuals to exist and pair-bond. The point of all this is that when citing history, you need to have all the facts and the facts are that marriage as 1 man + 1 woman is a new concept in human history and romantic love or of choosing your own spouse, as a basis for marriage, is even more recent. As we learn, as we grow, as we gain knowledge, we humans change FROM our history. Now, we are adding a group of people, citizens in this nation, to the vaunted history of marriage. Homosexuals do not want to change marriage, they simply want to join into all the joys and benefits that heterosexuals enjoy. Nothing more. Oh, and on a side note, divorce in ancient times was often either killing your wife or casting her out in the street without anything. Human history is one of change, always change. Now there is the pot calling the kettle "black". You, more than any other person on this thread, have repeated the same myths, legends, themes, obfuscations and even outright lies, over and over and over and over again. You have no credibility to call others out for repetition. Eric  (Apr 12, 2012 | post #135906)

"The Golem" has passed away.

It's just amazing that you have so much contempt and anger for others. You have all these choices of response available to you and yet, time after time after time, you choose derisive, nasty, mean, contemtuous and angry words. You claim a knowledge of Jesus, a love for Jesus, yet you CHOOSE to respond in a manner that is unbecoming one who claims to be "christian ". So very sad. Eric  (Apr 12, 2012 | post #3499)

First, until you condemn heteros equally, you're willfully ignoring the totality of the truth. Second, I'm looking at the Cambridge Cares About AIDS site (which you don't link to, coward, but here it is http://www.ccaa.or g/programs.html) and I'm at the Youth on Fire area (which you also did not link to, again cowardly of you, but here it is for all to see, http://www.ccaa.or g/youth_on_fire.ht ml). Now on the PUMP site, Peers Using More Prevention page, there is a link to Manhunt and to Rent-A-Boy. Yes, these ARE sex sites for people to hook up for, sex. What are they doing on a site for AIDS prevention and eduction??? Well, they are PAYING FOR THE SERVICES TO HELP PREVENT HIV AND AIDS. Manhunt and Rent-A-Boy are paying for the treatment of men with HIV/AIDS. These sex sites are paying to help educate the gay male population about STD's including HIV/AIDS. These sex sites are paying for the materials to be distributed to the community to promote RESPONSIBILE sex, because yes, gay men, like hetero men, have sex. It's not a conflict of interest, it's promotion of safer sex, of responsibile sex, to minimize and reduce the transmission of STD's and HIV. Do these sex sites have to do this? NO! There is no legal requirement for them to PAY for these services. THEY CHOOSE to pay for these services, the education, out of their own profit, to encourage responsibile sex between men. They could do nothing. They CHOOSE to pay for vital services. You are a liar and a coward. As always. Eric  (Apr 9, 2012 | post #135582)

And my marriage is annointed by G-d's representatives, my Rabbi and my husbands Episcopal Priest, who blessed our marriage before G-d, family and friends. It is still Pesach (Passover) and you are still enslaved to a paradigm of hate and derision of G-d's creation, you heart still hardened against other children of G-d. So very sad.
