State's graduation exam scores flat

You are absolutely correct when you point out the fact that parental involvement is the key to educational success. BUT, we have poured a lot of money into schools to address that. Early childhood education, Head Start, free/reduced cost lunch & breakfast programs are just a tip of the iceberg. All done and funded due to the lack of parental involvement. All of this money doesn't address the lack of parental involvement. Instead, it absolve parents of their responsibility and does a pretty poor job of it at that. Too much testing? There should be more. If students cannot reproduce what they have supposedly learned...they haven't been taught properly. More testing produces progress and measurement for both teacher and student. If a teacher cannot produce a student that cannot pass a test. How is that student to pass a life's tests like a job interview or perform daily tasks. Tests are stressful, they produce measurement and results. EdMN wants teachers to be measured on effort, proper thoughts and intentions. The real world measures results. Fun? School should be fun, demanding , somewhat stressful and rewarding. We need to demand that students get an opportunity to succeed but ultimately its up to them. Teachers who cannot produce results need to find different carreers. Giving EdMN more money won't help.  (May 25, 2011 | post #22)

New Jersey teen claims threats after challenging Bachmann...

Rarily, if ever, have I run across someone with your brand of arrogance bolstered by the unwavering belief in your own self worth and belief in one's own intelligence. Your deity complex is wasted on politics, you should have been a surgeon, philosopher, bartender or Union steward. Bradlee Dean is a religious crack pot with a self-righteous attitude rivaling only your own view of your self-importance. I would also point out that many Republicans apologized numerous times for this mistake. For you to equate this nutball (Dean) with Ayers, a murderer and bully, is laughable. Now, please explain the scale you used to measure closeness. Because if the most Rev Dean is closer to Rep. Bachman that Bomber Ayers is to the President, I would like to know how you determined this measurement. Is there some international standard that my Wisconsin/Minnesot a public education failed to teach me?  (May 24, 2011 | post #100)

First off, I've read your many posts, your sources are hardly impeccible, they come with a left leaning slant. All of these statements are anectdotal and taken out of context. My proof? First, you have never listened to Glenn Beck. Second, the contents of Obamacare reveal new secrets everyday. It was voted on before anyone read it...Pelosi's own admission. I know nothing of a one world currency, other than gold. But, this global economy tripe has cost more US citizens their jobs thanks to NAFTA and other so called free trade agreements. ...Anfd you don't hold with guilt by association? But you took the time to throw your own example. Ayers and Wright are disgusting hate mongers. For all I know so it Dean, what's your point?  (May 24, 2011 | post #96)

In your previous post you referred to Rep. Bachman's "lunatic theories". Please elaborate on one of her "lunitic theories" by citing source and what is wrong with it. The Representative certainly has said some things I disagree with but, I certainly would not call her statements lunacy. I am curious how you judge your own labels, statements and words.  (May 23, 2011 | post #88)

Voters deserve credi

Mr. Clemmer, I agree with you, the voucher system is not a system to bring efficiiency to the healthcare debate. However the Republican plan attempte to control costs by effectively making the medicare recipients market driven consumers. It just doesn't work. Most Medicare recipients are at a stage in their life when healthcare is consumed with little thought for cost or even effectivceness, Conversely, you obviously believe that the current Medicare plans meet the needs of consumers. What you describe as efficiency, I call a conscription of the medical industry. They pay peenies on the dollar for services and reward the least efficient healthcare models. Minnesota, by all accounts, has a relatively efficient healthcare system as measured by cost and outcome. Florida sucks up Medicare dollars more thatn any other state in the union. Their reimbursement rates are higher and outcomes poorer. Medicare will only become efficient when the healthcare industry is rewarded by efficiency and outcome. More importantly, Medicare cannot be an all you can eat buffet. People have to take control of their healthcare decisions and deal with the consequences for living a life. No one lives forever.  (May 20, 2011 | post #2)

Just mentioning Rep. Bachman's name brings out a plethora ofvicious comments, name-calling and general bashing. Witness the 60 comments in less that 3 hours. "Count on people to not speak up?" You people never shut up. Theocracy? I have never heard her demand that other religions be denied. Fascism? Do you even know the meaning of the word? You have your President and a majority in the house and Senate from 2009 - 2011, in that time those people had run roughshod on the taxpayers (different than citizens) of this country. Who was the facist then. Rep Bachman is 1 vote in 435. President Obama has veto rights. You people just never stop whining  (May 20, 2011 | post #69)
