It's the Darwin crowd that lacks the facts in evolution d...

dwindle - that is a strawman arguement. Where did you get the ~6,000 year number from? Recall that many creationists also hold to the belief that time as we know it differs from that of the Creator, thus the "6 day" creation could have taken an untold number of hundreds of millenia or more by our human standards. Also , if one believes in the Almighty and creation, then a creationist need only point to the fact that the Creator made everything new, but allowed it to exhibit "age" as if it had existed for longer. After all, if God can create a universe, then God surely has the power to make it whatever age "He" desires. Why would "He"? Maybe God just has a sense of humor and likes making folk's like you ask questions. Which, btw - is a good thing.  (Apr 11, 2012 | post #85617)

Trayvon Martin - Asheville, NC

Z was charged with 2nd degree Murder. The prosecutor on this is over-reaching. If (and I don't know florida law) the jury is allowed to consider a lesser charge - Z will get convicted - likely of either negligent homicide or involuntary manslaugher. I lean toward negligent homicide myself. If lesser charges are NOT on the table, then he goes free IF the system works as it should. This is because there is sufficient evidence to create reasonable doubt as to whether the shot fired was in self defence. With witnesses and injuries that are consistent and point to Martin being the one who started the confrontation, as well being on top of Zimmerman when he was shot, self defense is a reasonable claim. The reason it should be Negligent Homicide is because while Z may or may not have been justified in the moment of the shooting - his actions prior to that moment were negligent and contributory to the outcome. As a gun owner, I understand the responsibility that comes with that ownership. Zimmerman put himself into a situation where things got out of control, supposedly "forcing " him to use his firearm. If you carry as a regular citizen - you do not ever go in pursuit of another person. The 911 tapes make it clear that before the pursuit, Zimmerman stated that he thought Martin was "on drugs or something" and might be armed. Yet he pursued Martin - knowing that he himself was armed. This violates every common sense rule and is why his actions were negligent. What idiot goes chasing down someone he thinks is on drugs and may be armed if he isn't (at least in part) looking to act?  (Apr 11, 2012 | post #133)

cheating men/women

Marriage is a wonderful institution. I don't care how wonderful it may be, I simply refuse to be put into an institution. On a serious note - being Poly is something that works fantastically for some. The key is honesty at the start and throughout. I know many women who learned about the idea from me, and the immediate reaction was "No way!". Society conditions women to monogamy much more than it does men. Everything from the fairy tales of the marriage to the handsome prince, to the judgement of a woman who is too sexual. Yet it does work - and often a woman will sit outside a poly situation and observe it - see if it is what it is advertised as (and the earlier poster was correct - it is NOT all about sex). They see that they can be special in the lives of someone, without having to lose who they are in a relationship - its a win/win for many. Its not for everyone - but because it may not work for you does not give you some high ground to pontificate what is and is not acceptable between two or more consenting adults in the privacy of their own homes.  (Apr 11, 2012 | post #36)

Nude maid service raising eyebrows in Texas city

I have been told that if politics were an airplane, I'd have 2 right wings - and I see absolutely no reason why a business of this sort should be "shut down". As long as the cleaners were not publicly nude, but only disrobed once behind closed doors and around adults - there is no problem. Having read quite a bit here before beginning to post, it seems some equate "conservatism " to "legislating morality". Just as many "on the right" paint with broad strokes that fail to capture the diversity of "liberal " folks, the same is true in reverse. Discuss issues, not generalizations.  (Apr 11, 2012 | post #20)
