Been a long time since we have had "crab legs" in INDY!

It's true, we don't have the good restaurants, nor shopping, nor the trauma I hospitals, but you have to weigh that against living in a city with high crime, high traffic and in an emergency, it's going to take a long time to services back on. For instance, my sister, living in Atlanta, had her electricity off for more than a week a few years ago, when the remanents of a hurricane passed over the city and took down over 4000 trees. The bigger the population, the slower it takes to get services back. I'll take small town living any day over fighting traffic in say, Tulsa, Wichita, Joplin, etc. I can drive there to eat and shop. Now, as far as the hospital issue, if you're really in a bad accident, or have a major heart attack, you're probably not going to survive.  (Jan 28, 2011 | post #5)

New Water Tower vs Old Water Lines

Independence is just like every other town in the country, including cities. A certain amount of your water/sewer bill should be going into a maintenance account, so they can repair/replace water lines as needed. But hey, we want to spend that money for something else, so the water lines don't get fixed. That happened in Cherryvale and when the state health department inspected the lines and found them to be in terrible shape, they said you will replace these. The fix was to triple everyone's water bill. Isn't it nice that the people in charge from the locals to the feds, can just spend the money anyway they want, to heck with how it's budgeted, and we, the people, end up paying for their boondoggles. That's the American way!  (Jan 28, 2011 | post #12)

"Low Neck", you hit the nail on the head. I can't believe how poorly some individuals on here use the English language, not to mention the poor spelling. This really doesn't bode well for our public education system, does it?  (Jan 27, 2011 | post #60)

Coke tastes funny?

Yes, leave the soda alone and drink water. My niece lost a bunch of weight by just not drinking pop. She looks great.  (Jan 27, 2011 | post #10)

More Playground Equipment Removed From Riverside Park

Why don't we just wrap up our kids in bubble wrap and send them out to play? And truth be known, the ones who would be quickest to sue if their kids got hurt, are the ones who don't watch them that closely.  (Jan 27, 2011 | post #8)

unemployment in kansas

Yes, and heaven forbid if you lose your job after age 50, because even though we have age discrimination laws, they are very difficult to prove. I know a person who worked over 26 years, had a college degree, always went to work, didn't screw off, did his job, but was laid off after his company was sold, and never could find another job in his field, with his experience and education. In this current economy, you just about have to know someone to get your foot in the door of any good company. And even then, you still may not get the job.  (Jan 25, 2011 | post #7)

That is just a cruel and stupid remark. You'd change your tune if it were your son or daughter.  (Jan 25, 2011 | post #23)

Politics Jim Kelly / Gas

I don't believe the answer on gas prices. Gas in Garnett last weekend was $2.889/gal. while it was $3.099 here. Explain that. Same state, same taxes. It is always cheaper in Andover and KC too. If we were truly paying a fair price, then it would be the same throughout the state. I don't believe we pay higher state gas taxes in Montgomery than they do elsewhere.  (Jan 20, 2011 | post #7)

Who do you support for Governor in Kansas in 2010?

Wonder how much it cost the US Government insurance to keep Bob Dole in the hospital for 10 months last year?  (Jan 14, 2011 | post #690)

What an asinine remark. My husband has a college degree, my mother taught school for over 30 years and I also attended college, but didn't graduate. So what does our intelligence have to do with anything?  (Jan 8, 2011 | post #20)

It's not a dead end road where we first saw it. The road a mile west of us is dead end and you have to turn south or north. Six people saw this and I haven't ever told anyone about it until now, because of stupid comments from people like you.  (Jan 1, 2011 | post #15)
