Arrests made for store theft

Please get your facts straight. He was not one of ours or yours or anyones. From the Republican Heretic: Note that there was no real indication of how it was determined that this guy was a right-wing extremist other than that he flew a plane into a building. It was just assumed that violence = right-wing. Of course, given the Left’s history of violent riots, bombings, and assassinations, I’m not sure how that follows. Apparently the most they’ve got so far is that this guy didn’t trust the government , which is something that is quite common among the far-left, especially when you get into anarchist groups. But this is my favorite: “His “manifesto” is rank and file conservative/tea party/ repub rhetoric. I’ve read the same thing on these since before Obama was inaugurated. That dude would fit right in here, and maybe he did.” Gregory of Yardale at Moonbattery belies this in a pretty straightforward manner – by looking at Stack’s manifesto: The Dumbasses at Kos are already calling this “teabagger terrorism.” However, that contention is not supported by the Manifesto that Joseph Andrew Stack, the kamikaze pilot, left behind. If the manifesto is legit, then a few selected out-takes should dispel the notion that this guy was any kind of Tea Partier. …the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple… The recent presidential puppet GW Bush and his cronies in their eight years certainly reinforced for all of us that this criticism rings equally true for all of the government. Nothing changes unless there is a body count. The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed. His manifesto is rambling and disjointed. Someone from the left could just as easily cherry-pick passages to claim he was no left-winger. (And they will.) But any fair analysis would conclude Joseph Andrew Stack hated the government, the banks, big business, the Catholic church, life, and himself. He was an anarchist and a nutjob. Despite what Keith, Chrissy, Ed, and Kyle will claim tonight… he was not a conservative. Nothing in his manifesto indicates that the guy was conservative in any way. He seems to be more on the left of the isle, but his statement is so disjointed that it’s difficult to really tell where he sits (sat?) on the political spectrum. But he is certainly not far-right. Bottom line is this: this guy was a nut, and did a nutty thing that killed people. He did it alone and by himself, and he alone is to blame. And the Left will not rest until it can weave a narrative that establishes that this incident was the fault of the Tea Party movement, George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and probably global warming.  (Apr 28, 2010 | post #14)

Driving General Motors

You're an idiot! Lawmakers Accuse GM, Administration of Misleading Public Over Loan Repayment A handful of lawmakers are accusing General Motors of misleading the public by continuing to claim as part of its advertising blitz that the auto giant has repaid its government loans "in full." PRINTEMAILSHARE RECOMMEND (1) A handful of lawmakers are accusing General Motors of misleading the public by continuing to claim as part of its advertising blitz that the auto giant has repaid its government loans "in full." General Motors has been running ads on all the major networks claiming the company repaid its $6.7 billion U.S. government loan "with interest five years ahead of the original schedule." General Motors Company CEO Ed Whitacre can be seen in the ad walking through an auto plant as he touts the company's progress. But lawmakers, and even the inspector general for the bailout fund GM borrowed from, point out that General Motors only repaid the bailout money by dipping into a separate pot of bailout money. They say the company did not actually use its own earnings to make the early payment and are questioning why executives are making such a big deal out of it. "The hype is not the reality," Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, wrote in a column on over the weekend. "It is far from clear how GM and the Obama administration could honestly say, much less trumpet in prime time television ads, that GM repaid its TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) loans in any meaningful way." Grassley wrote a letter last week to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner expressing his concerns and asking for more information about why the company was allowed to use bailout money to repay bailout money. The $6.7 billion is also just a fraction of the $52 billion General Motors received in government aid. Grassley said lawmakers are being told government losses on GM are expected to exceed $30 billion. The TARP inspector general, Neil Barofsky, bluntly told the Senate Finance Committee during a hearing last week that the repayment "is just other TARP money" and lawmakers should not "exaggerate " the feat. "It sounds like they're kind of like taking money out of one pocket and putting it in the other to do that," Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., said at the hearing. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., expressed similar concerns Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," saying it's "misleading " for the administration to claim the company has paid back its loans. The GM ad could potentially land the company in trouble with the Federal Trade Commission over its truth-in-advertisi ng laws, which prohibit ads that are "likely to mislead consumers." The FTC would not comment on the specific GM ad. General Motors admits that the company is repaying the loan with other government money, but says a year ago "nobody thought we'd be able to pay this back."  (Apr 26, 2010 | post #5)

Reflections on Park Sq. Tea Party

Lovely story, but where's the part where they beat you with clubs or threw rocks and bottles at you. Did they yell at you, belittle you or otherwise try to intimidate you?? No?? Are you sure they were from the Tea Party, Because if you listen to CNN, MSNBC or Nancy Pelosi, these are the things that Tea Party Members do.  (Apr 26, 2010 | post #44)

Downed trains back on track

So, how fast were they going? Did you ask? No? Why not? Good thing it didnt happen in great barrington where the tracks are 40 feet above main street, behind domaneys to john b hull. Try calling the railroad to voice your concerns about their speeds through there and see what response you get.  (Apr 1, 2010 | post #1)

Deer lose to predators, greedy hunters

Are you from agawam or Montpelier? Just wondering if there are deer ticks up there in montpelier. I hunt up in the high peaks of the Adirondacks and there are none up there.  (Feb 21, 2010 | post #31)

One more thing, off topic, but is Alan Chartock that much of a pansy that he won't allow anyone to post responses to his rantings??? At least you and it appears all of the other columnists here allow people to respond with their own opinions and that I do respect you for. Does Alan Chartock have that much control over this newspaper that he can decide that people are not allowed to voice their opinion to him???? WHAT A SPINELESS LITTLE LOSER Alan Chartock is. Maybe he should grow some 8alls.  (Feb 21, 2010 | post #2)

Time for Obama to get angry, too

Sorry Bass, the problem is not with the republicans, Fox News or any one else but the democrats themselves. Obama is as spineless as the rest of them and the only thing he, along with the rest of them, cares about is getting re-elected. If We, The People like what we see, we will re-elect them. And right now we don't. And we won't. And they know it. For exactly one year, the democrats held the 60 - 40 majority and got nothing done. Why? Because with no republicans holding them back, they had to fight amongst themselves. And they did. When votes within your own party have to be bought with millions of dollars of bribes or programs for a particular state will be burdened by all the other states (Nebraska) or certain groups will be exempt from paying taxes on premium healthcare plans (unions), there is a problem. The American people recognized each one of these "problems " as unfair and un-American and we spoke up. And as long as democrats keep up the games, we will speak up and be heard. So, lets get ready for reconciliation. Its about all the dems have left in their arsenal and we're ready for it. We will be heard at all costs, I can guarantee you that. Thats how this country works. And no matter how much you want to blame Fox News or Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, It's We The People that still make the decisions here.  (Feb 21, 2010 | post #1)
