East Hartford School Panel To Weigh Dress Code Input

I totally agree with Renita Burwell. It shouldn't matter what one wears as long as one doesn't break the rules. And, if that "one" does, he/she shall be punished in the right order. Simple as that. If that does not happen, then the staff did NOT do their job. Like Renita said, this is America people! We don't need uniforms to solve our problems, when they don't exist to do so in the first place. Let the kids wear their glory, and let them be adults when it is time. As for the students in high school, they should also dress with freedom, but be responsible of what they choose. If they wrong the policy, then let THOSE WHO DISOBEY be the ones to suffer. Phil: I am not a parent. In fact, I just graduated from EHHS last year! Wow, if you could read, I think I've already stated I graduated, c/o 2008! And as far as standardized tests go, you're apparently not equipped with too much information about them. It's not because of clothes that "SOME" of the students are not passing, it is because "SOME" students come from foreign countries, and DO NOT exceed well at these "standardized tests" the students have to take. Again, you're welfare of knowlege has come into play, and its just one more thing you DO NOT know about E.H. schools. To add, I NEVER said that the only way children can express themsleves is only by wearing clothes! You're mockings of the words that come out of my mouth are assinine towards me, and you're an ignoramace to think that I said that only clothes express what is on the inside of the children. I SAID, children can USE CLOTHES TO HELP EXPRESS WHO THEY ARE, AND WHAT ***DOES*** LAY ON THE INSIDE! Next time you try to repeat me, at least be honest of what I truely said. I PRAY to God YOU are NOT a parent, who's, let me just say, morals are totally old and useless to think that uniforms will fix the education of students! You want students to concentrate better on learning, DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN. And, if every other parent/guardian follows suit, then probably half, if not a lot, of the problems that exist would not be occuring right now.  (Oct 27, 2008 | post #11)

Wow, "Phil".. i'm just flattered you decided to put your two-senses in this whole matter. And yea, Whitney Houston did sing that song to show children that what matters is on the inside. You're just too much of a jerk to actually see that kids SHOW WHAT THEY DO POSESS inside by wearing clothes THAT ARE THEM! Let me guess, you must be a father who is too ungrateful to buy clothes that show who his kids are, and what they posess on the inside. But, that must not make sense to you, i forget, you must have "not" been a child at one time. Let me say, give the kids a break, for once, its not about you, its about what the kids want. Like you said, the children are the future, let them show what they posess on the inside, and they can, by expressing it! Oh, and for the discipline matter..the teachers shouldn't have to take time from teaching, because the students who DISOBEYED THE DRESS CODE POLICY should have already been caught in the hallways, by the staff, who are supposed to check for I.D.'s and proper attire AT THE CLASSROOM DOOR DURING PASSING TIME. That would also be known as ENFORCING the policy, so uniforms don't have to be brought in. But, "Phil" you seem so sophisticated, so you must know everything, right? Do everyone a favor, stick your nose in your own business. =D As for "Dirty of Meriden"..Yea , I'm sure SOME of these students are capable of buying a pair of exspensive shoes and/or cell phone/PDA, NOT AN ENTIRE WEEK'S WORTH UNIFORM WARDROBE -just because the people like you think its necessary.  (Oct 23, 2008 | post #4)

Town Prepares For New Round Of Road Repairs

How great. I am pleasured to hear your street/section has been done over. But, what about the other GREAT percentage of East Hartford that hasn't been redone? For example, the section I live in hasn't been successfully re-paved in about 20 years, which is longer than I've been alive! This is assinine, how only a couple of the better sections of East Hartford are done over, and we have yet to see ours done. And for that matter, if any constructive activity did occur, it will probably be at the height of the summer, when everyone is relaxing in their backyards and will then have to endure the loud noises. Thats besides the point. If they can do your sections, they can definitely do ours!  (Jan 29, 2008 | post #2)

Dress Code Issue Revisited

Dress Code Issue Revisited

This is ridiculous. I'm sorry, but changing the dress code will not prohibit any student's bad behavior/actions. Think for a minute, do you really suggest clothes prove that behavior will get better just by wearing a uniform? Do you really think problems will be solved and ALL students will wear the uniform? That is obsurd. If there are going to be consequences for the students for not following that dress code, why doesn't the staff and administration just discipline the ones who disobey the dress code we have now? As a member of East Hartford High School, I proudly say this plan will never go through. Individuality is what life is all about, whether we're in school learning, or we're adults with our own lives. Disobey the ones who ruin it, not the ones that follow coreectly. ~Jesse Forbes~  (Jan 27, 2008 | post #3)

There is no dress code here...Therefore, it wouldn't matter if the teachers would have to wear uniforms, because there are none. Also, for the sake of everyone, please learn how to type and/or speak English!  (Sep 10, 2007 | post #38)

I'd like to venture that you were not one of the popular kids. And, since you believe the popular kids don't have personalities, and you find it easy to judge the opinions of everyone else posting to this forum it is fairly easy to guess that you are also a teacher - probablty right at good ole East Hartfud Ha! Good point!  (Aug 26, 2007 | post #33)

Umm..If I may say, YOU attacked me first with your negative comments. Do you have a memory that extends TWO DAYS AGO? My negative comment was a message to you to leave me alone. Telling me where I stand in life is none of your concern because, and I'll say it again, I have parents to disciplin me. I don't know, being an honor roll student, being part of the high marching band/soccer team, landscaper for the elderly...etc.etc. sounds pretty good to me. Also, are you really be this thick-headed? You can be an honor roll student and still not be at the top of your classes... So, I said "blow me"...but is that before, or after you attacked ME with YOUR negative comment? The whole "get a life" saying should be popping into your head. If you had one, you wouldn't be siiting here, barraging with you're "parental skills"...whi ch by the way, apparently suck, and if I was your child, I'd think I'd run away, if thats the way you speak to them. Stop parenting me, and seek someone else to lecture..like YOUR children!!!  (Aug 16, 2007 | post #30)
