Gun Shots at St. Ferdinand park playground???

I was up there again today and this time I actually crawled into the play gym thing and saw that IS likely damaged by a lighter and paint ball gun, but it looks like bullet holes when standing below, and from the photo. As a mom of a toddler and infant who frequent this playground, I'm very uncomfortable with paint ball guns being on the premises of the park. They can be dangerous to kids as well.  (Apr 29, 2010 | post #41)

Okaaaayyyy?! Solitary Candid ... THANK YOU for calling me a total idiot. I don't think a lighter and a paintball gun is encouraging news either ... By the way, Thank you again for being polite.  (Apr 29, 2010 | post #39)

Thanks Andrew, I'd appreciate it!:) Also, did you see the playground photo I uploaded? Just in case it's repaired before you get a chance to see in person. I'm using it as my profile.  (Apr 28, 2010 | post #27)

Gun Shots at St. Ferdinand park playground???

It is fractured and darkened around the point of impact, and burnt looking all around the plastic shield. It would have to have been shot inches away or maybe fireworks??? But not sure if fireworks would leave holes like that... Anyway, that possibility isn't much better than guns. They shouldn't be at the park either. I'm going to email FloMo on that website and try to get some details. If it was something like guns, fireworks, etc.... there does need to be better lighting during hours when this kind of thing would happen.  (Apr 27, 2010 | post #23)

LOL!;) NoCoPolitics, do you work for the parks dept? With a statement like, "this is cheap plastic playground equipment, it is bound to break", I'm not very encouraged to allow my children to play at "one of the best kept parks around" with or without guns :) Just kidding ....sort of.... Honestly, I agree with you, it is a fantastic park and I love the lake! It's my favorite park in Florissant, but I do wish they'd put up lights, and I would like to add that budget-permitting they put up a fenced-in area around the play area next to the lake as was done to January Washbash park. I'm constantly nervous that my little one is going to run out of the play area and into the lake. It's too close for comfort!  (Apr 27, 2010 | post #19)

Thank You! I do want facts from the authorities, but I didn't know who exactly to ask. I mentioned it to a police officer at the park, but he didn't elaborate on any details.  (Apr 27, 2010 | post #17)

Paint balls? maybe, but are you familiar with paint ball guns? My husband played paint ball, and the the plastic shields he wore over his eyes were protective gear against paint ball holes. I don't know the exact materials used to construct the playground equipment plastic sheilding, but I imagine they'd also be impenetrable by paint balls. Also, paint balls tend to be colorful, and do not leave a burned looking residue and shattered area around the point of contact sites. Of course, I will readily admit that I'm not an expert on bullet holes myself :) Paint balls, I hope you're right, but it doesn't seem possible. Do you know for a fact; or was this your best guess? One more comment ... Please, no offense, but are gun shots really a far cry in your perception? I attended the townhall meeting in 2008 with the mayor when gunshots were fired at Dunagant park. I can't remember all the details now, but somehow it had started at Robinwood Elementary (around the corner from my house) and ended up at the park. Also, you do remember the girl who was shot coming home from Doozles... it's not that far of a cry in my point of view. Anyway, I'm just concerned.... I take my infant and toddler to play at these parks.  (Apr 27, 2010 | post #15)

LIke I said, check out the picture I posted in Photos posts, and tell me if you don't think it looks like bullet holes. Seriously, I can't think of what else that would be...  (Apr 26, 2010 | post #12)

Pure Fiction, is this AKA the mayor?? :) As I mentioned in another comment, check out the picture of the playground I posted in Photos -- gunshots and all -- it's quite surreal!  (Apr 26, 2010 | post #11)

Yep, I just answered my own question... it's a chain ... I just looked it up online ... and all this time I thought it was unique to STL.  (Jun 2, 2008 | post #6)

What happened to Florissant?

No kiddin'? Where's she from? ... And why does that wedding cake say she's from here :)  (May 30, 2008 | post #37)

What happened to Florissant?

I remember that! I think he was standing with the Valley of Flowers girls and Miss USA from Florissant (Shandi Finnessey?) I always think the welcome to Florissant sign at 270 and New Flo Road, at first glance, looks like a concrete wedding cake announcing the marriage of Robert Lowery and Shandi Finnessey. I used to think it was hideous, but now I'm just sorta used to it.  (May 30, 2008 | post #33)
