Working as a geologist - hard on families

What kind of geo work do you do where you are on for 2 week periods? What is your education level?  (Aug 23, 2012 | post #2)

college student with a passion for geology

I am a 20yr old college student who is currently attending a very reputable community college and about to transfer to a 4yr univercity. I have retained a 3.5 average throughout my stent at this school and do well with writing and oral presentations. My math skills are not the strongest and often times this is my hardest subject. Reading, comprehension, and memory are all my strong points. I enjoy being outside and started a small rock collection, identifying not only the rock but if it has traces of biotite, flourite, muscavite or any others in it. The question I have and the feedback/advice I'm looking for is as far as the work world of geology would a geologist use high level math such as calculus on a day to day basis? Do you work in offices or more outdoors? What are some skills or attributes a geologist need to have? What is a "normal" day for a geologist? individual work or small group? Do all we do is identify rocks? What jobs can one get a BS in geology? If someone can answer any of these questions or has work experiance as a geologist or is pursueing a career currently or is in school obtaining the degree your feedback will be a great help. Any other advice relating to field is also helpful.  (Aug 23, 2012 | post #1)
