Fight the Texas Driver Responsibility Law
He hasn't plea bargined yet. His case was heard on July 9th in Williamson County Court. It was only preliminary and the details are not known. Many speculate he will fight this all the way and get out of a conviction. I believe that will happen. (Wednesday | post #22)

Repeal the Michigan Driver responsibility fees
Ok, let's address this: everyone says it!----The funds of the TX DRL go to the TX Mobility Fnd and the Trauma centers/hospitals. THe TX Mobility Fund has NO Problem getting their piece of the pie! HOwever, it is very hard for the Trauma centers/hospitals. 1-They have to apply for it. 2-If they receive funding from another source (I don't remember if it's Federal, or State) then they can't receive the funds. THis money does not go to those injured or to help lower car insurance rates. This law does nothing for the citizens that it is trying to protect except taking their rent money that they desperately need. Yes, we made mistakes and we should pay for them. BUT, most of us paid our fines and were released from all future fines and penalties from the DPS. THen, we find out about this law while we are being arrested, wage-garnished, or get the bill for the amount due. It takes 6 points in Texas to be in Surcharge hell-A car accident automatically gets you 6 points on your record regardles if the accident is your fault! This impacts the poor-no one tells us this law exists until it's too late. By the way, the DRL was first rejected in Texas. It was forced thru. No major headlines or stories. Texans did not get the right to vote on it nor be informed of its existance. The TX DPS waited 4 years to inform me of the fees I had to pay from the TX DRL. The TX DPS renewed my Driver's License and I had no problem during those 4 years. Then, 5 days before Christmas 2006 they let me have it. I was released from ALL FUTURE fines and penalties from the TX DPS. The judge, atty for the court, clerks for the TX DPS never informed me of this law when I asked then what else I needed to pay. I made a mistake and didn't read my insurance policy correctly and was cited for non-valid car insurance. Yes, shame on me! I was young and stupid. They don't teach you about car insurance/policies in High School/College. (If they do, I had no clue!) But I paid my debt, learned my lesson and now I'm being punished by their terms and deadline. It's time for this greedy law to go! Repeal the TX DRL! repeal the Michigan Driver responsibility fees
Hello everyone: I'm working to get this law repealed for Texas. Please let me know what is going on with your fights! Virginia has repealed their DRL. If we can get out states to follow suite, this would be amazing for us! The object is to stop the court actions: they are not working or catching attention. We must educate everyone, let them make their decision to join/not support/ and take action. Join the fight against the DRL in all impacted states! If we join together-we WILL make a difference! Thanks for letting me post/vent: Mary Moody http://www.myspace .com/fightthetxres ponsibilityp YouTube postings at: http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=zt5SU 95y_oo to view the first posting and: http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=fljjL hLdwHE for the second. Shame, FYI it's over $250.00 to have your DL re-instated in the State of TX. "Taking offenses from other states may be unconstitutional since Texas has no ability to determine the validity of the other states resolve." - Excellent point! I never thought of that-I will research. "Who backed and pushed the law, certainly not people who drink and drive." - Actually, they do! Mike Krusee, one the authors of the TX DRL was arrested here in Austin, TX for suspision of DWI in April 2008. Since it was only a suspision of DWI (he failed a sobriety test and had expired L.Plates, refused the breath test-so he automatically gets to have his DL suspended for 180 days) the TX DPS refuses to release the dash cam from the police car nor the details of the case-since it's ongoing, the Law says they can hold the info. "How many dollars were spent on T.V. commercials to get this law passed? Which members of your state government pushed for it's existance and what monetary benifits did they receive from the lobbist groups...mainly insurance companies?" - The TX DRL was not approved the first time around-so it was forced thru w/o support. No major headlines, news stories, or artices about it. For most, it is a total shock. (Monday Jul 21 | post #18)

Texas Driver Responsibility Surcharge Program Petition!!!!!
Jackie, that is VERY severe and wrong! I think your case might best be served in a court of law. There you can present the judge the police report and other evidence. Just another person the TX DRL has taken advantage of. - The burden of proof is on TX Drivers and it is shitty! Good Luck! (Monday Jul 21 | post #31)

Although I don't entirely agree with Tyrone: he is right about having to pay again. This is just a scam on the poor, like me. (Thursday Jul 17 | post #93)

actually John, since the TX DRL has taken effect: 7 out of 10 motorists haven't paid their surcharges, resulting in a suspended DL. The number of drivers without DL has climbed continously since the TX DRL passed. Still think it will get the "irresponsibl e" off the road? (Thursday Jul 17 | post #92)

Thanks Shame! I have anticipated this meeting for a while and have expected just what you wrote. But I have requesting this meeting for 6 months and it is finally approved. Yes, I will not meet with Governor Perry. I will meet with his liaison, Kyle. I know they are watching, checking me out and know exactly how much I have. But you saying it: it puts it out there in front of my face and out of my head-little scary but I'm not worried anymore. I do appreciate your comment-it helps me prepare. But rest assured, I'm not going away that easily and I will not be intimidated by a government that I can change. (can't change them so easily!) Thanks again Shame, you are helping me prepare and I need it! (Thursday Jul 17 | post #11)
