This is an open public forum. Anyone can join in. If Latinos aren't joining in in the numbers you expect, well, you need to ask them. We have nothing to do with that. Your question reminds me of Latino students in colleges demanding that more Latino teachers be hired. The colleges' unanimous response: "Well, if Latinos applied for the job, then we would hire them." I hate it when Latinos blame their lack of representation when all the while IT IS THEIR FAULT FOR NOT APPLYING. We have nothing to do with their apathy. I'm sick of all the "minority whining and blaming the white man" sh*t. I mean, isn't it AT ALL POSSIBLE THAT THEY THEMSELVES ARE TO BLAME SOMEHOW??? Is it always the white man's fault? Why is it so hard for them to admit they're guilty? We're all human and we all make mistakes. Well, here is the fallacy of your statement: I speak another language; HOWEVER IT IS NOT SPANISH. My employer (County)rejected my application for bilingual pay. IS THAT FAIR?? Is that even legal?? Isn't that discrimination? You see what I'm saying here? Why do Hispanics and the Spanish language HAVE MORE IMPORTANCE IN PAYSCALE THAN OTHER LANGUAGES? I know you will answer "because the majority minority is Hispanic." Well, think about THAT and Affirmative Action. I thought AA was suppose to elevate ALL MINORITIES. But, as you can see from my experience, that is not true. Hispanics have the edge. Isn't that an affront to Asians, Russians, Orientals, Africans, etc? Where is the equality amongst minorities?? Where? Why didn't I get 10% more pay for being able to speak another language, even though it wasn't Spanish? WHAT IS THE BASIS FOR THIS LAW? NONE, other than Hispanics have more lobbying power; aka, whoever shrieks the loudest gets the vote. The result: Congress gives Hispanics MORE RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES THAN ANY OTHER MINORITY GROUP. Do you think this is fair? Just? Constitutional? It is not based on equality, as our Constitution demands. But you will say "But they are not the majority." OK!! If it's all about majority, then English is the majority language in the USA. SO WHY GIVE MORE MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE? Do we have to bribe bi-lingual people now to translate? What ever happened to civic duty? Why can't they do this for free? I understand that in legal proceedings, a bi-lingual person should be hired. This is a cost of the court system. And that is ok and just. But with everything else -- come on! Either learn to speak the language of the country you (illegally) moved to or you're f*cked! Don't expect that country to learn your language when you're not even suppose to be here! Freedomx4, it's great that your children are learning Spanish. Good for them. There is nothing wrong about learning another language, especially if they plan to travel. But are they learning it because they want to or because their future depends on it? WHY DO AMERICAN CHILDREN HAVE TO BE HELD HOSTAGE MONETARILY JUST FOR NOT SPEAKING ANOTHER LANGUAGE??? THIS is America. Our language is English. Aside from the courts, there should be no added benefits for being able to speak a foreign language. ALL FOREIGN IMMIGRANTS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO LEARN ENGLISH. It is in our Immigrations Code. America is by no means perfect. But inspite of her imperfections, she has managed to be THE WORLD'S ONLY SUPERPOWER. Having said that, what is Mexico's excuse for its abject TOTAL failure? With all its natural resources and loyal citizenry, why is Mexico still a 3rd-World country? Why is 90% of its population still in poverty? Why is 10% of its population (99.99% of them poor) abroad? Why is its literacy level only 10%? Why is its army and police departments so corrupt? Why is the exchange rate 10 pesos to $1? Why does superstition and hocus-pocus still hold more sway than logic and rationalism? Why is drinking and driving accepted? Why does the cultural more of sex with 12-yr-olds still persist? WHY IS MEXICO SO HUNGRY FOR TOURISTS TO PROP UP ITS ECONOMY??? Mexico is not exactly the model of an advanced society. In your own words: "You cry about other Countries yet you have no clue how to even begin to pull your own Country out of the hole that the Anglo-Saxon American dug all by themselves?" Just replace the words "Anglo-Saxon American" with "Spanish-Mexi can" and maybe you can answer your own question. Hahhaha. The proof is in the pudding. IF MEXICANS HAD A CHANCE, 45% OF THEM WOULD ALL COME TO THE USA. THAT is the statistic from your own Mexican govt. Believe or not (coz I don't really care what you believe), there are many Americans (like me and freebird) who would gladly pay more as long as the job goes to an American. A lot of us Americans vote with our wallets as well as in the voting booth. When I moved to Idaho, I searched for an American citizen housecleaner, and that's what I got. She does a wonderful job and has not broken a single thing. Many many years ago, when I lived in CA, I hired a cleaning company to houseclean. They sent a Mexican woman to clean my house. She barely spoke English, broke many of my irreplaceable ceramic keepsakes and blinds (and didn't tell me, I had to find out on my own), and constantly called in sick (car problems, kids sick, school appointments, etc). I was working at that time and had set aside that day for her to come to clean (I do not leave the housekey with anybody, so I have to stay home to let her in). She didn't even have the decency to call me to tell me she wasn't coming. Her absences, obviously, wreaked havoc on my schedule. Thank God for her, I am very patient. BUT AFTER MONTHS OF THIS, I decided to put an end TO MY AGONY. I was extremely kind to her too; I gave her tons of my clothes and shoes because I knew she was poor and could use them. I finally fired her. She tearfully begged for her job back, but I felt I had given her more second-chances than she was worth. Enough was enough. "Business is business," I told her. "If you cannot conduct your cleaning business professionally, then I will find someone else who will." And I did. I found another cleaning company that hired only legals. I know, coz by that time, I was in the fight against illegal aliens, so I ASKED. Today, in Idaho, my cleaning lady is 100% American, has become my best friend, AND HAS NEVER BROKEN ANYTHING NOR DOES SHE EVER NOT CALL ME AHEAD IF SHE CAN'T MAKE IT (rarely). She is very professional, conducts her business AS A BUSINESS, and does not play on my emotions. She is intelligent and careful. I couldn't ask for anything more. I pay her MORE than I did for that illegal-alien cleaning lady (and I paid her a fair sum). I don't care. I get what I pay for. And I am happy that she spends her earnings IN the USA -- good for our economy. Most of all, I get respect from her. She doesn't think I'm stupid and fall for the "I can't come in to work coz my grandmother died" spiel. In short, some of your people try to scam us with lower wages, but they DO NOT deliver the goods. Just for a fast buck. But we all know "Haste makes waste." I will never be able to replace those ceramic heirlooms, but I have learned a valuable lesson: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. "Cheap" does not mean "quality. " Your people are poor and therefore into volume, thus the sloppy work. Americans are into quality; it may take longer but you will be satisfied with the results and they will get more work via your referrals. And here in America, business referrals are crucial, because of all the competition out there. This is probably a foreign concept to you and millions of other Mexicans like yourself.
