OMG.. I'm sure those will be removed as well... won't they? Or is just removing distorted images of "the ONE and Michelle" the PC thing to do?  (16 hrs ago | post #99)

I'm sure, in the case of fairness and all that, the pictures of GW looking like an ape will be removed as well? As usual.. PC Police are running amok!  (16 hrs ago | post #98)

Obama touts Asia trade to create jobs

Any trip through the isles of Walmart tell me that there can't be too many barriers from our side. If your argument was true we wouldn't have such a huge trade imbalance. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame them for looking out for their people, industry, and economy. They are doing what we are not... namely, looking out for the welfare of their country and citizens. We simply suck at the trading table.  (17 hrs ago | post #107)

Report: Kennedy barred from communion by bishop

You're advocating that the decision to have any and all treatments should be left up to the patient. To date, I know of no doctor who will perform "elective " hysterectomies. To equate that the act of physically dismembering and tearing apart an unborn child with having any other "elective " surgery is nothing short of appalling in it's callousness. You talk of choice... but there's one member in that "choice" who has been excluded from giving his or her assent. Just because you can't hear the scream doesn't mean it isn't there.  (Yesterday | post #373)

Obama touts Asia trade to create jobs

I learned a lot about what fuels our trade imbalances in this article on American Thinker. Obama's Failed Asia Trip http://www.america nthinker.com/2009/ 11/obamas_failed_a sia_trip.html China's Protectionism The Chinese government only lets its people buy about 25¢ of American products for each $1 the U.S. buys from them. They not only keep out American products through currency manipulations, but also through a wide variety of tariff and non-tariff barriers, including all of the following: 1. Autoparts. The Chinese government has high tariffs (about 25%) on foreign-made autoparts. Otherwise the Ford and GM plants in China would be importing them. 2. Automobiles. The Chinese government has high tariffs (about 25%) on foreign-made vehicles. The Doha Round of the WTO agreement collapsed because China and India refused to reduce them. 3. Video Games and DVDs. The Chinese government allows piracy of these products while delaying approval of import licenses for the legitimate products. 4. Chicken. The Chinese government stopped issuing import licenses for import of American chicken at the same time they filed a complaint over U.S. rules against the importation of Chinese cooked-chicken products. 5. Mining Equipment. The Chinese government currently has high tariffs (about 25%) on foreign mining machinery, a major U.S. export. 6. Computer Products. When the U.S. government hands out consumer subsidies (such as "cash for clunkers") foreign products are eligible, but when the Chinese government hands out subsidies, including subsidies to computer products, only domestic manufacturers are eligible. 7. Motorcycles. The Chinese government has numerous barriers to foreign motorcycles, starting with tariffs of about 25% and continuing with restrictions against using motorcycles with large motors on many Chinese roads. 8. Nylon. In October, the Chinese government slapped a 36% tariff on U.S. nylon products in retaliation for U.S. tariffs on Chinese tires. 9. Solar Panels. China requires that about ¾ of each solar panel purchased in China consist of Chinese-made content. 10. Windmills. China used a temporary ban on American windmill parts to keep American parts out of Chinese windmills. -- Very interesting article... everyone should read it.  (Yesterday | post #104)

Obama touts Asia trade to create jobs

I'm wondering why you flipped off his post with such a frivolous and insulting reply? Is it entirely out of the question or beyond the realm of possibility that he might have been right? It doesn't seem so far-fetched to me that the "Money-Movers " and globalists might want to get their paws on the country who, at present, is America's banker. Greed knows no borders and money, after all, is money. I'd be interested in seeing the list of "guests" who traveled with him to Asia. When you're hunting game, the jackals are never far behind...  (Wednesday | post #101)

Iran: U.S., Israel Lack Courage to Attack

Apparently you can't read... It seems you've forgotten that the majority of the land in question was gained by Israel during the 6 day war. A war they didn't initiate but won anyway despite overwhelming odds. They have conceded and given back a lot of the land but Hamas and other terrorist organizations are happy with that. They want it ALL. How many Israeli citizens have strapped bombs on the backs of their children and set them loose in Palestinian market places and hotels? How many times have the Israeli government tried to hold peaceful negotiations only to have missiles or other arms lobbed into their neighborhoods? In order to have peace, you have to have both sides agreeing to it. So far it's only been a one-way street. I don't think Israel should concede or give up any more land! Should the USA give up lands on the US continent they won in war?  (Wednesday | post #13)

Iran: U.S., Israel Lack Courage to Attack

This article is only half right. Israel "will" do whatever it takes (down to the last man or woman) to defend their land. The US, on the other hand, is now all talk... We have Rodney King diplomacy... "Can't We All Just Get Along?" I think the problem is that we got Roosevelt's theory all mixed up... he said "Speak softly and carry a big stick." The 2008 voters thought he said, "Speak Softly and Elect a Big Prick."  (Wednesday | post #12)

Capital Culture: 60 years of Us dinners for India

My job went there in 1995. I can't fault the Indian workers.. they wanted jobs and they got them. Unfortunately, they got them at a fraction of what the jobs paid here. In the end, we were paid equally since my lower paid replacement job is on par with what the tech companies are paying my replacement in India. What it comes down to is that I don't blame the workers in India, China, Mexico, or other countries that our jobs are sent to. They are exploited and victims, just as we are, of a system that is stacked against us and perpetuated by both of our political parties.  (Wednesday | post #28)

Capital Culture: 60 years of Us dinners for India

I thought the same thing. It was something about the 40 Dress Designers who worked on her gown, hiring a "renowned " chef for their dinner, and a host of other useless and needless expense at a time when people are wondering if there will be a turkey on their table on Thursday. This president acts like an 8 year old with an open credit card to Toys'r Us... spend.. spend.. spend... He should've had a picture of all of our grandchildren on the placemats since they're the ones who will be paying for all this foolishness and waste of tax dollars.  (Wednesday | post #27)

Healthcare Bill - Grant Programs Not Talked About That Expand Cost!

"...governmen t watchdog groups say that if lawmakers were so inclined, they could break out their paring knives and shave off a billion here, a billion there, and still have a robust bill -- only for less money." ------ Demonstration Program to Promote Access for Medicare Beneficiaries With "Limited English Proficiency" Section 1222 of the House-passed bill would empower the secretary of health and human services to award no fewer than 24 three-year grants for Medicare providers in communities where many people don't speak English. The money would go toward interpreter services to help break through the language barrier between the providers and those who need medical help. The cost: $16 million a year. No grant could be over $500,000. ------ Grants for "Early Childhood Home Visitation Programs" Section 2951 of the Senate bill would authorize the secretary to make grants to states and non-profits for early childhood visitation programs. The programs would be aimed at improving maternal and newborn health; preventing child injuries and abuse; improving school performance; reducing domestic violence; and improving "family economic self-sufficiency. " Not all of those goals are health care-related, though, and are included in a section that asks states to conduct "needs assessments" examining issues like high-school dropout rates and unemployment. The cost: $1.5 billion over five years. The program allows the grant recipients to go three years without submitting a performance report to the secretary. ------ Grants to Promote "Positive Health Behaviors and Outcomes" Section 2530 in the House bill authorizes federal officials to award grants to promote healthy behavior in medically underserved areas. The goal would be to educate those communities about the risks associated with poor nutrition, tobacco use, lack of exercise and other health problems. The cost: $30 million over five years. ------ Training for Dentists Section 2215 of the House bill sets up a training program for oral health professionals. The program would allow the secretary to make grants or award contracts to entities that can develop and operate a professional program for dentists and other professionals would who work in the field. The cost: $1.3 billion for that and other similar programs over five years. The bill does not break out how much of that money would go exclusively to the training program. ------ Wellness Program Grants Section 112 of the House bill allows the labor and health secretaries to award grants to small businesses to cover 50 percent of costs associated with wellness programs. Cost: Unknown. The section states that none of the grants, which can last up to three years, can exceed $50,000. But there's no cap on overall payouts. The language provides for "such sums as are necessary to carry out this section." ------ Patent Protection for Drug Companies Section 7001 of the Senate bill protects manufacturers of biotechnology drugs, or biologics, from competition from generic brands for 12 years, which is more than the seven years recommended by the Obama administration. ------ The Congressional Budget Office estimated that by 2019, 19 million people would be receiving subsidies worth $5,500 on average under the Senate bill. About 18 million would be receiving subsidies worth $6,800 under the House bill.  (Wednesday | post #1)

Obamas' First State Dinner Marks Departure From Previous Administration

The grand White House dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh marks a departure from the ones held by Obama's predecessor, George. W. Bush. WASHINGTON -- President Obama plans to have his cake and eat pumpkin pie too when he hosts his first White House state dinner Tuesday, providing the 320 guests expected to attend the lavish ceremony with fine dining from a top chef and entertainment by Oscar-winning musicians. First lady Michelle Obama's staff, which has planned what could be Washington's hottest social event since the inauguration, has kept a tight lid on the details for the event in honor Indian Prime Minister Monmahon Singh and his wife. But some elements, like the huge white tent going up on the South Lawn, couldn't remain secret for long. That alone means hundreds more people will be attending than if dinner had been scheduled indoors in the State Dining Room, which seats a maximum 140 guests. Among the guests expected to attend are filmmakers Steven Spielberg and M. Night Shyamalan, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and CBS' Katie Couric. Mrs. Obama also is bringing in a guest chef, award-winning Marcus Samuelsson of Aquavit, a Scandinavian restaurant in New York City, to help the White House kitchen staff prepare the meal. Samuelsson was selected by social secretary Desiree Rogers and assistant chef Sam Kass. The menu is heavy on vegetables, as is common in Indian meals, but also features a variety of California and Virginia wines. The courses include potato and eggplant salad and arugula from the White House garden with an onion seed vinaigrette, both accompanied by a 2008 Savingnon Blanc, from Modus Operandi in Napa Valley. A red lentil soup with fresh cheese will be paired with a 2006 Riesling from Brooks "Ara" in Wilamette Valley. Roast potato dumplings with tomato chutney, chick peas and okra or green curry prawns with caramelized salsify with smoke collard greens and coconut aged basmati are the two entrees. They will be joined with a 2007 Granache from Beckman Vineyards in Santa Ynez. A season pumpkin pie tart will be served with pear tatin, whipped cream and caramel sauce sparkling Chardonnay, Thibaut Janisson Brut, from Monticello, Virginia. All that will precede petits fours and coffee, cashew brittle, pecan pralines, passion fruit and vanilla gelees and chocolate dipped fruit All the courses will be placed on historic china from previous White House collections, including service plates from the Eisenhower administration's 1955 New Castle, Pa.'s Castleton China, Trenton, N.J., Lenox from the Clinton service and dinner plates from George W. Bush Kinston, N.C., Lenox, collection which was a gift of the White House Acquisition Trust. Centerpieces on the table will be "composed of flowers that are evocative of the classic American garden: hyrdrangea, garden roses, and sweet peas in a rich palette of deep plum, purple, and fuchsia," according to the first lady's office. Oscar-winners Jennifer Hudson and A.R. Rahman will be the headline entertainers. Hudson won an Academy Award for her role in "Dreamgirls; " Rahman won two for the music in "Slumdog Millionaire." The grand White House dinner for Singh marks a departure from the ones held by Obama's predecessor, George. W. Bush, who notably hosted Singh at a dinner in 2005. The Bushes rarely held formal state functions. "In the Bush administration, things were smaller, more intimate, which is what she wanted," Anita McBride, former chief of staff of Laura Bush, told Fox News, referencing her ex-boss. "It has been awhile since we have seen an event like this," she said.  (Tuesday | post #1)

Report: Kennedy barred from communion by bishop

It really cracks me up when pro-abortion people use the argument that people are being hypocritical if they are against abortion but agree with capital punishment. One has nothing at all to do with the other. When someone is convicted of murder, he has made a choice to do that evil deed and now has to pay the consequences of his (or her) actions. What crime has the unborn infant committed that he or she should be sentenced to death? What choice has the child been given? Oh.. I forgot. It can be given the sentence of death simply because it exists.  (Tuesday Nov 24 | post #346)
