Illegal immigration declines as economy falters

Politicians keep mouthing "increased enforcement and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants" Ok, so which is it? Enforce the current laws, which isn't being done or give'em all green cards? I'll give a road map to US Citizenship, go back the way you came in, then apply for legal entry to live here. Problem solved. I have no gripe with any legal immigrant, this is a land created by immigrants, but I do have a problem with illegal immigrants who steal the chance from someone who has patiently waited their turn to become an American, the right way, which includes assimilation & being an American 1st & always, no divided loyalities allowed.  (Oct 2, 2008 | post #8)

Jimmy Carter says bailout plan is faulty

Jimmy Carter says? He sure didn't have much to say when during his Presidency, in 2yrs time, my 2bedroom apt went from 150.mo all bills paid to 300.mo with me paying utilites, or how a loaf of bread went from about .49 to .89, the inflation was bad enough, but no one's pay increase's came clost to matching the cost of living increase's. It was also when many family's HAD to become dependent on a 2 income standard, women HAD in many case's to take jobs just so they could survive. Sit down & eat some peanuts Mr.Carter, you are a good person, but a lousy politician.  (Sep 26, 2008 | post #38)

Border fence in El Paso county costing $220 million

The Federal Gov had an obligation to protect the US, particularly after the tragic events of 9-11-01. It's almost 2009 & we're still debating how to protect our borders. It's a complete contradiction to talk about Nafta & building a wall. In order for Nafta/NAU to succeed it will require OPEN borders between US, Mexico & Canada. So the Government needs to fish or cut bait, either we lock down the borders or we zoom full speed ahead on the North American Union crappola. One or the other, can't have it both ways. Maybe they should look at what the European Union has done, Ireland refuses to participate & France, Spain & Italy want o-u-t. That great idea isn't working, only poorer country's have benefited, others have seen their middle-class suffer horribly since the EU was started and these country's have been overrun by very arrogant & demanding illegals who seem to think "it's owed to them". The sovereignty of the US should be paramount, until it is, the wall is finally a start, but unless the other current immigration laws are enforced it won't be as effective as it could be.  (Sep 26, 2008 | post #16)

Father drops off 9 kids under Neb. safe haven law

The Father's reason's are his alone, if he was a druggie, homeless, or plain old just doesn't like kids, he did the right thing, maybe he loves them enought to protect them, from their own Dad. Better he leaves them somewhere safe, than allows whatever circumstance's caused his relinquishment, to become so stressful he took it out on the kids. Few yrs back, recall 5 children, all drowned by their stressed out, mentally unbalanced mother, who sadly claimed she loved them. If she'd had a place to take them for their own safety, maybe that story could've had a different ending, maybe not, but without a support system like Grandparents, being a parent, let alone a parent of 9, can be stressful under he best of circumstance's. The sad reality of 9 children from 1 family, they probably won't be able to find anyone to take all of them & the kids will be split up. Siblings have a special bond, very exclusive club, us vs the rest of the world. That is the real sadness in this story.  (Sep 26, 2008 | post #142)

Student is accused of burning U.S. flag

Burning the Flag, the symbol of this country, was done in many protest march's in the 1960's. But there was a reason, same reason guys burnt their draft cards, it was a form of civil disobedience protest. Never did I see anyone interviewed by Walter Cronkite say "I was dumb and bored" when asked why they did it. This kid is so dumb he couldn't even tell the truth about why he pulled this stunt, but like other criminals, he should be kicked out & sent to an alternative school, that flag he burnt represents the reason he can go to school in the US & have a chance at a better life. Well he lost his chance, if he or his family are not here legally, ship'em back, now!  (Sep 26, 2008 | post #25)

El Pasoans differ on merits of bailout plan

Part of me wants to say die sucker to the corps that thru GREED created this mess, but just the fear that the average Joe will also lose his job, then his home, etc. points out that this "fix" should've been thought about before the bottom started falling out, now, sadly,if the Fed's don't step in with a bandaide to stop the bleeding, I think we'll be seeing Grape of Wrath style movies, the 2009 version, being made.  (Sep 26, 2008 | post #4)

Search is on for kidnapped teenager

Maybe she was his "EX" girlfriend because her parents made her break it off, which is one reason he promised to kill her family, or there's the other theory that they allowed her to date this creep. Either way, I don't know the circumstance's, do know that there's a very good chance he took her to Mexico. There's only 1 reason I can think of that would entice a 20yr old to date a 15yr old & in TX it's called statutory rape/child molestation, which is against the law.  (Sep 24, 2008 | post #41)

Police allege incident was gang-related

As for the question of racial profiling, I just read the names of the 11 shooting victims, not a Hispanic sounding sirname in the bunch. Violence these days doesn't seem to discriminate, heard about a Latino gang member that shot up the wrong car couple months ago, sent an Asian baby to the hospital. How about the Black Gang that shot up the wrong house & killed a 2yr old Hispanic girl? No one is safe, you could be sitting in your car at a red light & be shot for no apparent reason (something else that happened in the DFW area). I would suggest that certain situations bring an added element of danger, being at bars, 2-3am would be at the top of my list.  (Sep 22, 2008 | post #43)

Muslims at Neb. meat plant seek prayer compromise

My employer gives us 2 personal days each year, we can use them to celebrate a religious holiday, go Xmas shopping or just sleep, it's our choice. We also have 2 15min breaks each day, which we can take between 9-11am and 2-4pm, along w/our lunch break. They did this to prevent anyone from crying it's not fair about whatever they feel they're entitled to do. Shame that company's feel obligated to bend over backwards for employee's & they still kicked get in the butt by a select few.  (Sep 22, 2008 | post #13)

McCain says economy in crisis

McCain finally got the memo, did he? The problem w/most of our politicians is they're out of touch with reality as the average citizen lives it. Just for once, the whole bunch needs to get together, NOW, and do something positive that'll help those of us that aren't weren't born with either a silver spoon or silver foot in our mouths.  (Sep 22, 2008 | post #3)

What will AIG plan cost U.S. taxpayers?

The CEO of AIG gets the following to leave his position (after doing a mighty poor job) $7 million position buyout 1000 shares AIG stock 6 months salary as serverance pay The phrase "What's wrong with this picture" doesn't even come close to covering it. The Mega-CEO club earn Millions in salary, control thousands of jobs with their decisions and only seem interested in making as much money in a short period of time as possible. He was in charge of a company that rely's & serve's the public. He failed, he shouldn't be rewarded for it.  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #6)

Feds arrest 175 in bust of Mexican drug cartel

Appx month ago, an illegal, driving DUI, killed a newlywed couple in North Dallas. Turned out he'd been arrested 3 times in previous 2years for driving drunk. People were outraged, why wasn't he deported after #1 offense? Why wasn't he in prison? 4 times in less than a 2 year span? When the DEA made their bust, turned out one of the cartel members picked up was this infamous DUI driver. So was he constantly released because of the 15month investigation to pull this bust off? Kept out of jail numerous times so they could monitor him? If so, not much comfort to the family of the young couple killed.  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #61)

Lawmakers hear about border law concerns

Law Enforcement is supposed to enforce all laws. To be selective, because the criminal is an illegal, and to lay it at the feet of the Fed.Gov. is wrong. Arrest them & detain them for ICE, now if the jails not big enough to hold the number you'd end up arresting, then that's proof you've got major problems. Call Sheriff Joe in AZ he can explain how tent city's work.  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #12)

Mexico violence: Is our neighbor at war?

Media needs to stop asking questions & start stating facts. A good byline would be: Mexico's at war, how should the US protect itself?  (Sep 19, 2008 | post #6)
