Global warming 'undeniable,' scientists say

Global warming 'undeniable,' scientists say

Volume of ice in Greenland ice sheet: 2.85x10^15m^3. Area of oceans: 3.35x10^14m^2. If all the ice melts, you get (2.85x10^15/3.35x1 0^14)x0.91 = 7.7m sea level rise, taking into account a 9% volume change, but not area of land swallowed up. 1 foot is about 4% of that. There is enough ice for a much bigger sea level change. If you don't believe the maths, look at the fact that there are fossil beaches from warmer geological periods that are several metres above current sea level. http://www.nytimes .com/2013/01/22/sc ience/earth/seekin g-clues-about-sea- level-from-fossil- beaches.html?pagew anted=all  (Wednesday | post #32920)

She wasn't that brilliant. Ice melt required to raise sea level by 1 foot? About 3.5% of the Greenland ice mass alone.  (Tuesday Apr 15 | post #32888)

Once slow-moving threat, global warming speeds up, leavin...

What the models said: "there has been a growing number of studies using results from medium and high resolution global climate models. The results from these studies indicate a consistent signal of fewer tropical cyclones globally in a warmer climate (Knutson et al 2006)" What the observations said: "New paper finds significant decreasing trend of Australian tropical cyclones." What mothballs said: "Damn that inconvenient science!"  (Monday Apr 14 | post #45916)

Nothing. Just brian's eight year old's interpretation of it.  (Monday Apr 14 | post #45913)

No, you posted a study that agees with model predictions, but claimed it contradicted model predictions (because you made an assumption about model predictions that made an ass out of you). You've gone from running away to swirming dishonestly. Is that an improvement? I don't know.  (Monday Apr 14 | post #45912)

Massive emission cuts 'necessary'

I don't know, is there anyone who hasn't spotted Steven Goddard is a clown? He can't even get his conspiracy theories right: the email he quotes is about sea surface temperatures, but Reykjavik is a land station, where is issue is homogenisation.  (Monday Apr 14 | post #3)

mothballs likes to rubbish science and scientists, but he's too ignorant to understand the science he rubbishes, too lazy to rectify that ignorance, and too dishonest to retract comments that prove to be a lie.  (Monday Apr 14 | post #45897)

A perfect example of how denial works: quote some science that seems to support you case as an excuse, and don't worry if your interpretation of the science is proven to be a falsehood: denial is about flinging shit and seeing how much sticks, not about honesty.  (Sunday Apr 13 | post #45875)
