A couple of thoughts to ponder.....The developer in this meeting minutes, Bintliff, wanted originally to put this project exactly where the selectmen now want it to be. The selectmen threatened to refuse a sewer connection because they didn't want to see any commercial growth on this strip of Route 1. A little foolish since this is the one area of town that was approved as a "Gateway Development District" a few years back at town meeting. The towns people also approved a TIF agreement with the developer so that he would spend $1.2 million to bring sewer and water to town, which he did. So he changed locations to an area they COULD NOT refuse, they applied, their permit was granted. Now the selectmen want it back across the street.....Know why? Selectman John Johnson lives almost within view of the approved site and has done everything he can to stop the project. Now he's even offering to pony up taxpayer dollars to pay for their sewer and water costs for crossing Routes 1. Oh yeah, the developer also spent over $100,000 in engineering and legal fees for the approved site. Who's going to end up paying that bill now? I think it's almost time to bring the state in on this one. (Jul 10, 2008 | post #1)
