Ideas for track site debated at meeting

So far anything that has been proposed for that empty eyesore, has been shot down. Just think of the tax revenue that the state and the town could get if they allowed to put a business, racing or anything for that fact. It would help provide jobs for the people. Maybe we would see a revitalization of the area.  (May 5, 2008 | post #3)

Should hemp be legal to grow in Vermont?

Keep in mind that a lot of these people who voted probably don't live in Vermont.  (May 5, 2008 | post #2)

Main Street deals with burglaries

Yep. Especially when they are kids being let to run loose in town. The parents don't even know where or what their kids are doing.  (May 5, 2008 | post #2)

Pownal constable hired by sheriff

Wow. Pownal seems to be having more and more troubles lately. They can't keep their constables for long, keep upping sewer usage fees, that lovely dumpy old race track and the garbage and junk cars and trailers in town, makes grateful that I don't live in Pownal anymore. Oh yeah, don't forget the rats that are livng behind the Stewart's in Pownal.  (May 5, 2008 | post #4)

Truck driver in fiery crash pleads not guilty

You have no idea. I still hear stories from drivers that are encouraged by their dispatchers to run extra log books. It's all about making the all mighty dollar. I do believe that the trucker has responsibility in his actions. He knew he was driving an unstable load and to fast for a road that he wasn't familiar with. I would rather have P.O. my dispatcher for late loads than to have an accident on my record because he thought it was a high priority load. I can't recall how many times my dispatcher told me that this load had to be there yesterday that's how important it is. There's a neat little invention that a lot of these trucks have that do long haul, it's called Qualcomm. It's like a computer that companies use to relay info on loads and vehicle info. Even messages that are sent from/to driver and dispatch. Kind of like a black box.  (Apr 30, 2008 | post #33)

Home invastion in Pownal

I'm glad that things turned out well and no one was seriously injured or killed during this ordeal. I hope the dirt bag's conscious gets to him. Maybe he'll slip and actually get caught next time.  (Apr 30, 2008 | post #9)

Progress reports offer grim statistics

Part of the solution is parents need to be involved in their childrens education.  (Apr 30, 2008 | post #9)

Man arrested in Shaftsbury shooting death

No it wasn't a drug deal gone bad. Unless you know the people and the situation you should refrain from making such comments. Ron was a good dad to his kids. His children suffered from the loss of their father.  (Apr 26, 2008 | post #5)

Deferred sentence for son of man held in fatal shooting

Kyle should have not gone to his relatives house to have the confrontation. But the relative did not have the authority to give the state police the information that they did. It was the victim's responsibility. This person knew by giving this information would cause Kyle a lot of grief.  (Apr 26, 2008 | post #5)

Trucker hurt in W'ford wreck

Amber, I have to say something about your comment. It is very discriminatory to make a statement like that. Not every single trucker out there is disrespectful, negligent and dangerous driver. As for something to be done. What would you want to be done? Don't allow any big rigs into VT? If that ever happened all hell would break loose. How would you get gas so you can go to a DR. appointments, go to work, groceries, anything? Would you be willing to travel to the closest city to get your stuff? Drive next to a big rig on the highway? Truckers are a necessity to this country. In the time I drove truck, I met a lot and I mean a lot of excellent drivers. Unfortunately you never hear about them only the bad ones. Let's not lose track of what the problem is. This one person's lack of a good decision in driving. Not everyone. Don't make stereotype comments.  (Apr 26, 2008 | post #17)

Second crash on VT. Route 9

I don't know if anybody has read today's comments about these accidents. They were called "unfortunate ". What exactly is unfortunate about the accidents?  (Apr 25, 2008 | post #3)

Second crash on VT. Route 9

I agree with that. Boa Constrictors are illegal to posess in certain states. There is no reason to burn your brakes out on that stretch of road. There's a reason why there's so many gears in trucks. To help you maintain safe speeds on downgrades. Most companies now a days train drivers from the ground up. They tend to rush them just to get a driver behind the wheel. I went through a private driving school. The instructor had over 30 years of driving experience. I learned a lot from him. Everything was old school. You didn't use the engine brake. You used the transmission. He showed how to check your brakes for damage. He drilled the pre-trip inspection through your head so you would know it by heart. If at any time he thought you weren't ready to drive on the public roads, you stayed in his yard practicing till you were ready. I credit his tutorage with my safe driving record. I've always questioned companies that trained there own drivers. Most of these people haven't driven a car long enough to get basic road skills. I do know a lot of companies approve up 4 people in a truck. Prevents the trucks from being down from out of hours. But this also prevents trucks from being properly maintained. Hurry up keep that truck moving. The DOT regulation book should be updated so many years and not just enforce the rules with the driver but the companies that push their drivers into unsafe practices.  (Apr 25, 2008 | post #2)
