Social workers can't do everything and be everywhere. They are paid enough and the system is overloaded. Parents (parents of the 15 yr. old) have to do more. I know everyone says we are living in a different time but I have friends and relatives who are are raising teenagers in these times. They are involved in their lives, they know where they are and who they are with. They are nosey and ask nosey questions. They are parents. This is so sad. I know I will probably get reply posts that say I am wrong but I really think that a 15 year old who is obviously living in what is not an ideal situation, should be counseled about giving the child up for adoption. People are counseled for abortion (pro and con) but does anyone encourage that they put their babies up for adoption when they are so young and really can't take care of them? There are no perfect people. But it doesn't take a perfect person to recognize a stupid action. Is that better? I called the action stupid, not the people. You and the people who knew the deceased are getting defensive because people are expressing their opinions of the actions. Most of the people posting to this site probably don't know them but they know what they think of the actions. No matter how you describe it or try to set the scene, in many opinions, it was stupid. If you didn't know them, you would probably admit it. Since you want people think of things that they have done. Think about this. Have you ever used the word stupid to refer to someone? Ever? No. It's nothing like that. As you pointed out, a "group of people" were "standing around, chit chatting and 'site seeing'" on the top of an open-top, double decker bus. That one point is so significant that there can be no comparison to standing around at a cook out. While I feel for their family and friends, I cannot believe that their actions, and the actions of the lucky ones who were with them but didn't get injured, continue to be defended. Since you were there and was standing on your seat, can you please provide some insight as to why? You were on the top of a double decker bus w/ no roof on that level. I am sorry for you loss. However this cannot be compared to a parent jumping up to help a sick child. More than likely, the parent lean DOWN to help/comfort the child and if the parent stood up to go alert the driver to a problem, it is doubtful that the parent would stand on the seat. Again, sorry for your loss. You're right, the pain is just as intense but people on the forum are just expressing their opinions of the act, not of the lives lived and lost.
