You're right about consolidation, but why not simply 67. One municipal government per county. Unfortunately, the "locals" would never go for it.  (Jun 5, 2009 | post #2)

Solehi to seniors: You snooze, you lose

This is another example of schools being all too willing to refer their students to law enforcement for prosecution. Yes, the students should be punished, yet the school district has plenty of options available for delivering said punishment and does not need to involve the authorities in such a minor crime. As for punishing the town crier, I would think that he now has a legal case against the administrator who made that decision and should follow their example, they escalated a minor issue to the legal system, he should follow the example the district has demonstrated.  (Jun 3, 2009 | post #19)

Limiting North Whitehall Township Wal-Mart's hours may be...

I thought he was from Virginia, so I assumed he was speaking of a Walmart on the Civil War battlefield there. The problem I had with his complaint was that there are three partially preserved battlefields loczated within a twelve mile strech of Virginia Route 3, Chancellorsville (sp?) is the the best, Fredericksburg has the best tours, Wilderness is a bunch of trees and a couple of developments, which they call associations and charge fees for living on, with cute street names like Stockade, Garrison, Pickett and Grenade. Not worth saving from housing development, but now he wants to use the battlefield cry to keep Walmart out.  (May 31, 2009 | post #37)

Limiting North Whitehall Township Wal-Mart's hours may be...

Where on the battlefield? Obviously Route 3, but which strech? With three Civil War battlefields in a 12 mile strech of the road, I would question the value of preserving all of the acreage, so depending on where it might not be such a bad thing. It would certainly beat driving to Central Park or Culpeper.  (May 31, 2009 | post #24)

Northampton 2 Dead After Motorcycle Crash

I was 4 years old when my mother gave her life saving mine. My father explained it to me while I was still in the hospital, but I didn't really get it until he took me to the cemetary after my discharge. At this point she had been gone about a month, and though I knew she was gone, I didn't understand where or why until that day at her grave.  (May 4, 2009 | post #28)

So quibble about spelling, and call me names. You're not going to make anyone think about anything that way. The point is that Natural Law and the theory of inheirent (?) rights are the basis on which our nation was founded. When someone comments that citizens are granted rights, that statement needs to be corrected to prevent the further destruction of those rights. You go ahead and quibble over spelling though, if that make you feel better.  (Apr 2, 2009 | post #87)

Being pro-life isn't limited to abortion

Yes, but we count the Declaration as our foremost founding document, that's why we celebrate Independence Day on the anniversary of its signing and we count it as our nations birthday. We also fail to remember how long it took for the Founding Fathers to develop the Constitution. We insisted that Iraq do it in less than a fifth of the time it took us.  (Apr 2, 2009 | post #83)

Being pro-life isn't limited to abortion

In cases where the mother's life is in danger, the basic tenets of natural law would make abortion, though homocide, legal. This fundemental principle of one's right to protect their own life is overiding of the concerns of the individual causing the danger.  (Apr 2, 2009 | post #77)

That's odd. I thought that government derived its rights from the citizenry. I also seem to remember a phrase that went something like " and they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" I seem to remember being taught something like that in elementary school. I think they even mentioned something about a couple of wars that were fought over those principles. Could be that my memory is getting foggy, though.  (Apr 2, 2009 | post #75)
