Anything at all," huh? By your twisted logic, someone could walk down the street shooting every smoker he sees, and he'd get a medal instead of a death sentence. Buy a clue, Observer.  (Jul 25, 2011 | post #47)

New Westerville church rises in hard times | The Columbus...

If you dig down and look at where that money ended up going, you'll see that it either created or sustained jobs for hundreds of people, from the carpenters and masons that built the church to the craft-workers who produced the raw materials. And all of those people and companies paid income taxes on their earnings, so the government got a cut, too. This is economic stimulus in its purest and most effective form. These folks have a right to be proud of their accomplishment. I think I'll walk down there this weekend and tell them so myself.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #15)

City gets back on sidewalks, pleasing many neighborhoods

As long as there's a city income tax on people who work here but don't live here, this crap will continue. It will end when businesses start getting screwed directly or can't find employees who are willing to put up with Coleman's garbage.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #3)

By this logic, if a church leases space to a business owner and that business owner decides to include prostitution in his offerings, the church has no right to object. Don't be stupid, Human.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #184)

So happy that all of these folks will start enjoying the rewards from the lies and scare tactics the Coleman administration used to get people to vote for the tax increase. Think they'll spare a thought for the suburban residents that are getting raped by the higher taxes but will never even lay eyes on the resulting improvements?  (Jun 28, 2011 | post #1)

City keeps old streetlights on | The Columbus Dispatch

Go back to middle-school science, dingbat. Lots of us KNOW otherwise, because there's a little factor called "efficiency " involved. "Less power = less light" only applies if all the systems have the same efficiency. As efficiency rises, either output increases or power consumption drops. For example, a high-temperature incandescent bulb is about twice as efficient as a standard household 100-watt bulb, so you use half the power to get the same light output.  (Jun 27, 2011 | post #25)

By this logic, I should be able to get a permit for mass murder because I can justify it as "control of harmful non-indigenous fauna". Cool.  (Jun 27, 2011 | post #14)

United Way to accept contributions for more agencies | Th...

We stopped giving to UW years ago when we realized that the donations we scraped together by scrimping on personal comforts were paying for the UW CEO's 6-figure salary and top-of-the-line Lincoln. We started actively opposing UW when they started to punish organizations that actually expect their employees, volunteers and members to meet certain standards for morality and behavior.  (May 24, 2011 | post #21)

Democrats want oil tax breaks ended

Green energy may not be making huge profits here, but it is generating huge profits for overseas companies that produce the equipment. It's driving prices up by increasing demand for some commodities, and sucking even more money out of our pockets through tax subsidies for products that don't work as well as those they are supposed to replace.  (May 11, 2011 | post #8)

OSU improving its radiation treatment for cancer | The Co...

From a technical standpoint, all of this is fascinating. From an economic standpoint, it's ridiculous. There isn't enough money in the world to pay to give these treatments to everyone who thinks they need or deserve them. If you have $159,000 and want to spend it on two months of cutting-edge treatments, go ahead. If you intend to try to to force me (and all the other taxpayers and insurance customers) to pay for it, you can forget it.  (Apr 25, 2011 | post #1)

Richest Americans see biggest fall in tax rates

YupThe standard deduction was designed to save time and expense on both ends of the filing process (taxpayer and IRS) by estimating the deductible expenses for an average family with some mid-level income. As I understand it, the original calculations included estimates for excess medical expenses, local taxes, charitable giving, and unreimbursed job expenses. Don't know if they're still doing those calcs every year or just bumping the number to keep pace with inflation. And there's no "additional benefit" with itemized deductions. You have to choose one or the other, and if you itemize, you can't take the standard deduction as well. There's another kicker in there, too, for couples who file separately. If I itemize so I can claim my job expenses, my wife MUST itemize, even if the SD would be better for her.  (Apr 22, 2011 | post #49)

If you're going to do that, you have to tax all of the "nonprofit " left-wing environmentalist and humanist cults who collect donations and use the money to try to dictate policy.  (Apr 22, 2011 | post #9)

Richest Americans see biggest fall in tax rates

That is some scary sh!+, friends and neighbors! The annual federal budget is more than 70% of the total taxable income for all Americans combined? No wonder we're in trouble.  (Apr 22, 2011 | post #48)
