DONE expected to be folded into another agency to save money

NC's are indeed LA's best kept secret, but it's issues like Measure B and other backroom boondoggles that are being outed that show the strength of NC coalitions and cooperation that has already started to move the boulderdash of bureaucracies at City Hall. If you haven't seen the intertia that NC's has, stay tuned. And don't take one or two meetings where someone takes the floor just because they like the sound of their own voice as proof that YOUR voice won't be heard. SPEAK UP! Or better yet, pitch in and lend a shoulder!  (Feb 22, 2010 | post #15)

then there was the time Charley White came to my apartment in 1979 to score from my roommate from Miami (who got 'packages' from home a lot) escorted by some pitcher from the baseball team...I don't think it was McGuire...but it was something like that...same era though....  (Jan 29, 2010 | post #170)

He disavowed the quote attributed to him to the affect "if only she hadn't come to the door with the knife, she'd still be alive".... If if truly did say in in an unguarded drunken/drugged state, that isn't quite saying he was there...but was his son really so unstable to be seriously considered an assailant?  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #106)

Rob, ...in all charity: Just last week were readings of Corinthians, talking about there being different gifts amongs the members of the Body of Christ. Accordingly, we may think these priorities of environmentalists and animal rights activists are misguided, and even hypocritical, its something at least. We can pray that even the smallest seed of empathy can somehow be nourished to consider that human life, born and unborn, are worth the most careful consideration, AND THE CONSTITUTION IS BASED ON COMMON LAWS WHICH REVERS THET!!!  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #70)

You say sentience is important, but even the dilemma of viability is a red herring, arguably inserted inappropriately to the balancing act of offsetting Rights due to divergence from Common Law. Sperm and eggs have not been legally protected historically as has concieved life. It is worthwhile to discuss this at the level of the misunderstanding of what the "pre-quickene d" life is to realize the inadequacies of a simple formula to calculate when the balance of Rights tips terminally.  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #69)

And apparently, even in a consensual setting, "Due Process" of the decision only resides in the choice of one. Granted, the onus of bringing the lfe to fruition is weighted towards the mother-to-be, but whither the tie breakers when an earnest father believes his unborn scion would prefer to live? There was a legal determination as to where to draw the Due Process line between the unborn's right to not be "Deprived of Life" and the right to 'Privacy" as to when the decision could be made. Don't you think that we should at the very least update the conclusions of Roe V Wade with the benefits of greater learning in Medicine and Science over the past 40 years?  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #66)

OJ's son was a hit man for the drug dealers? I still haven't ruled out Al Cowlings in the shadows...terrible affair it was, I used to work a block away from the Condo, and my work often went to Goldman's restaurant for client dinners. Always eerie driving by.  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #101)

Well, the civil case did not pronounce him 'guilty', but liable. It should also be noted that unlike the criminal case, the burden of proof was only for reasonable doubt. Besides, it was in the stars: http://www.accessn ewage.com/articles /astro/benOJ2.htm That being said, I said at the time that if this fellow wants to swear on the Bible that he didn't do it, then he'll have to answer for that in front of a greater authority then Lance Ito. At about the same time, I remember Michael Jackson quoting Matthew 19…"Suffer the little children, and forbid them not to come to me”…and I couldn’t help wondering if he read the part of Matthew 18 where it talks about scandalizing the little ones, and the bit about the millstone. Tim Tebow Starring in Super Bowl Ad for Anti-Gay, Radical...

Right On Wolfie... This isn't the only thread based on some post regarding the commercial, but it's amazing how misdirected most of the blogovation has been. Not only does the commercial have nothing to do about the many self centerred behaviors which the Bible reminds adherants are not conducive to taking hold of the salvation made available to us, but it doesn't apparently take on the issues which bely the idea that 'choice' is sacrosanct. Our dear friends on this blog who may emphasize the importance of compassion, while thinking it appropriate to 'update' the areas in which it could be applied, seem to have bought into the liberal assertion that abortion on demand is strictly protected, when in fact, even Roe v Wade CLEARLY acknowledges that 'privacy' and LIFE yet to be born is a balancing act. I'll save my draft further emphasizing that point for now, but as a Catholic who is no stranger to study of the Constitution AND the Bible, coupled WITH the Magisterum and teaching authority of the church which has fostered so much deep thought (while endeavoring to safeguard egrarius misinterpretations ) I'll say that while the 'freedom from religion' mindset notwithstanding, this is one of a multitude of Common Law which does indeed have its roots in what Moses brought us.  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #461)

Well, not sure of the other Dude's counts count...I was talking about the murder he wasn't convicted of but was legally responsible for (covering up for his kid was one recent theory/book), but that past 12 for his impromptu bachelor party turned sting operation was tried in Vegas...where the House always wins...  (Jan 28, 2010 | post #88)

Not as a rule, but I think it was starting to catch on. Likewise, the concept of wearing the cap underneath the helmet goes back, according to one fellow trombone player friend of mine, because otherwise the helmet would slide forward and fall off when she'd take a bow. I was also at Tommy's the night Barry Spanier (currently Tulane's Directof of Bands) invented the 'Rootbeer Slick'! Since I was an upper-classman, I never had to experience the new rite of deflowering a Tommy's virgin (honestly, its not hazing...) whereby a styrofoam cup is given a dollop of chili, and then topped off with Rootbeer. The (ususally) freshman is then given a fork, but sometimes they use a spoon, because you want to get every drop?  (Jan 27, 2010 | post #64)
