Crazy Enough To Remake Beauty And The Beast?

Abigail Breslin's Haunter Is The Second Horror Bought At SXSW Watch Escape From Planet Earth Online Summit Entertainment is shifting its summer schedule around, pushing forward the release dates of both the illusionist heist film Now You See Me and the crime comedy sequel RED 2. According to the new dates at Box Office Mojo, Now You See Me will magically appear on May 31, one week earlier than its original June 7 date, while RED 2 has targeted July 19 as its new date, jumping forward two weeks from August 2. Directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), Now You See Me boasts the star power of Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Caine in a crime spectacle where the FBI chases a world class team of bank robbing master illusionists. The film’s release switch currently puts it up against James DeMonaco’s The Purge and Zal Batmanglij’s The East. Wat ch Stoker Online In the other star-studded affair, RED 2 is Dean Perisot’s first feature since 2005’s Fun With Dick and Jane, and follows the first film’s characters as they punch and shoot their way through a globetrotting rogue’s gallery of terrorists, assassins and government officials to find a missing portable nuclear device. For its new date, RED 2will be put up against stiffer competition in Dreamworks Aniimation’s Turbo, James Wan’s The Conjuring and Robert Schwentke’s comic book adaptation R.I.P.D. In a little over a month, Rebel Wilson will take the stage to host the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. The Pitch Perfect star enlisted the help of People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive 2012, Channing Tatum, for this new promo for the MTV Movie Awards, which pays homage to Tatum's upcoming action film White House Down. Watch Warm Bodies Online In what's likely to be one of numerous promotional videos for this year's MTV Movie Awards, this one puts Wilson and Tatum in a dangerous limo chase, which Wilson uses as an opportunity to climb above Tatum while he's driving."They 're gaining on us. Take your shirt off." A quick glimpse of the Presidential seal in the backseat links the limo to Roland Emmerich's upcoming action-thriller White House Down, which has Tatum starring alongside Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the film about a paramilitary group that takes over the White House. Tatum plays a Secret Service agent tasked to rescue the president. Based on this promo, if Rebel Wilson's anywhere nearby when he's trying to do that, his job might be a bit more difficult. Unless he can get used to driving with her in his lap. Watch The Last Exorcism Part 2 Online I'm holding out hope that we'll see a Pitch Perfect parody in one of these promos, or perhaps an aca-mazing musical performance during the 2013 MTV Movie Awards when it airs in April. The film earned four nominations, including two for Wilson herself (Best Female Performance, Breakthrough Performance). A song seems in order, if not inevitable. Read the full list of 2013 MTV Movie Award nominations here.Writer/direct or Jeff Nichols arrived on my radar in a major way back in 2011. His sophomore effort Take Shelter, starring Michael Shannon as a man experiencing apocalyptic visions and fearing that he’s losing his mind, was not just a brilliantly directed and scripted thriller, but one of my favorite movies of that year. As a result, walking into the Paramount Theatre to see Nichol’s latest film, Mud, at SXSW this afternoon my expectations couldn’t have been higher. Walking out I was anything but disappointed.  (Mar 11, 2013 | post #1)

Is Disney Really Crazy Enough To Remake Beauty And The Beast? Wat ch A Good Day To Die Hard Online "Dark" means one thing when applied to a Danny Boyle film and another entirely when applied to Disney, so I'm not too worried about a version of Beauty and the Beast that conveys the actual horror of a man being turned into a furry monster. But while Maleficent looks like a slam dunk and Alice in Wonderland obviously was one, Disney will be fighting a really huge competitor with this film: themselves. The 1992 animated Beauty and the Beast really wasn't that long ago-- and only a year ago they re-released the thing in 3D. Can they make a new version of the story that's valuable enough to make us overlook Belle and her tale as old as time? Watch Jack The Giant Slayer Online In sticking with its prominent position in the campaign of keeping Austin weird, the film side of South by Southwest has always been a lot friendlier to horror films than almost any film festival that isn’t singularly geared towards a genre. Instead of being relegated to time-filling slots, films like Adam Wingard’s You’re Next, Rob Zombie’s Lords of Salem and Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake are as anticipated as any other films being shown, and E.L. Katz’s Cheap Thrills was the first sale of the festival. The second SXSW sale went to Haunter, the latest film from director Vincenzo Natali, who last gave audiences the polarizing sci-fi Splice and first broke into the business with 1997’s cult classic Cube. Deadline reports the Midnighter selection’s U.S. rights were appropriately acquired by IFC Midnight. The screenplay was written by Brian King, who wrote and directed 2009’s decent Night Train and worked with Natali on 2002’s sci-fi mystery Cypher. Watch Breaking Dawn Part 2 Online Haunter gives 16-year-old Abigail Breslin her first leading role as Lisa, a girl whose family was killed in 1986 and are now stuck inside of the house where they died, though only Lisa realizes it. When a new family moves into the house, their teenage daughter Olivia (Skins’ Eleanor Sichy) becomes Lisa’s link to the real world, which Lisa must use to stop Olivia’s family from meeting the same fate. Hopefully Haunter’s original premise isn’t wasted on the limited scope and ghostly time travel that’s supposed to occur throughout. It’s hard enough for indie horror without introducing time travel into it. Watch Life Of Pi Online It also stars Stephen McHattie (XIII: The Series) as the antagonist The Pale Man, as well as David Hewlett, Peter Outerbridge, Michelle Noldon and Sarah Manninen. No release dates have been planned for Haunted just yet, but that news should be forthcoming now that someone is paying to distribute it. The cast for the feature adaptation of Veronica Roth's young adult dystopian novel Divergent has added three more to its roster. While there's still no confirmation on who will play the male lead, the film has added Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz and Ansel Elgort for supporting roles. They join previously cast Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet in the film, which is being helmed by Limitless' Neil Burger.  (Mar 11, 2013 | post #1)

Action-packed Snow White and the Huntsman

Danny Boyle Updates SXSW On Transpotting Sequel And Trance Watch Identity Thief Online Danny Boyle’s track record with Texas film festivals runs deep, having screened Slumdog Millionaire at the Austin Film Festival on its way to an Academy Award win for Best Picture and Director back in 2008. As much as he wanted to screen his latest film, Trance, at this year's South By Southwest fest, an agreement with Pathe guaranteed that the James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson vehicle would hold its official premiere in Europe this week. That didn’t stop Boyle from attending SXSW with a chunk of scenes from Trance under his arm, which were shown during a rollicking and informative panel at the Vimeo Theatre on Saturday afternoon. Hosted by NY Times columnist David Carr, the gathering felt like a cinematic celebration of Boyle’s stunning career achievements, running through clips on commentary from films like Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and a montage of snapshots from hits like 127 Hours, Millions, Sunshine and 28 Days Later. Watch Dead Man Down Online Boyle didn’t spend all of his time in Austin looking back, though. The Playlist quotes the director as saying that he’s working on adapting Irvine Welsh’s sequel to Trainspotting, called Porno, and he believes he can get the original cast to commit to doing it by 2016. There's always been this long term plan for Trainspotting 2, if John [Hodge] can produce a decent enough script, I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back. I think they'll wanna know that the parts are good so they don't feel like they are letting anyone down. … The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don't disappoint people. That will be the only criteria I think." Wa tch Dark Skies Online Meanwhile, in the Vimeo, Boyle and his musical collaborator Rick Smith of the band Underworld prepared the audience for Trance with a red-band trailer for the new movie and a lengthy clip involving McAvoy’s character trapping Vincent Cassel in a car that’s eventually set on fire. Out of context, it was a thrilling scene that gave away little about the supposedly twisty plot. But Carr, who had seen the finished film prior to the SXSW panel, seemed shocked Boyle chose to show that particular scene, saying, “You kind of opened up your kimono there, buddy,” the journalist joked, though Boyle ensured the crowd that Trance is a movie “entirely about secrets” and the fun of the movie is trying to figure out which of the three main characters we’re supposed to root for. Watch Oz The Great And Powerful Online Outside of film discussion, the Boyle panel proved most interesting when the director elaborated on colorful asides in his decorated past. He spoke of the fun – and the frustrations – that came with serving as the artistic director of the London Olympics. (When I spoke with Boyle in person after the panel, I asked him about possibly directing a James Bond film, which he politely declined.) He said that he turned down knighthood, which was offered, because “that kind of world isn’t my cup of tea. And he admitted that his musical inspirations likely come from his daughters at this stage of his life. So if you like the music he and Smith put together for Trance, be sure to thank them.  (Mar 11, 2013 | post #1)
