Mayor's plan offers $75M for tax 'crisis'

I'm against any relief that is tied to having a homestead exemption filed. If the taxes are too high, or if we need relief, I don't need relief less because I didn't have my homestead exemption filed.  (Jul 13, 2007 | post #1)

Peterson offers plan to cut property taxes

So the state legislature feels that the taxes are incorrectly figured high and offer a rebate, but only to those properties with a homestead exemption. They've talked about a 10 month payment option, but only to those properties with a homestead exemption. Now borrow money to bring the tax payments down, but only to those properties with a homestead exemption. So if you don't have a homestead exemption...??? Why discriminate? That seems to be saying, " We are taxing you blokes too much, so we'll bring it down for some of you."  (Jul 13, 2007 | post #588)

They could just not give the car but still require that police live in county. The civilian employees are required to live in county and don't receive a car to do it. BTW, I was stuck on I-70 at 10PM one freezing night and counted no less than 4 police cars go by me without as much as a honk. Oh, and how much does the gas cost that your husband doesn't have to buy for the ride into and out of work  (Jul 13, 2007 | post #587)

Also, my business has always paid more in taxes because of the exemptions on the property tax DS. I don't have a problem being a part of things, just don't want to be taken advantage of because of the shuffle. I imagine if your mom had to pay more taxes on East Washington than the other girls, you'd be upset also!  (Jul 12, 2007 | post #426)

Greedy? What a moron! Let's see... property taxes are screwed up. They are assessing way too high, so let's give some a break, while others still pay the high taxes. My point is that if the taxes were incorrectly assessed high and there is going to be relief, give it to all properties. The homestead/mortgage exemptions have become a higher percentage of the value over the past 10 years and now that they screwed up, the only breaks are if there is a homestead credit on the property. If you don't see the inequity in this, you are truely stupid.  (Jul 12, 2007 | post #419)

All of the homestead credits are a load of crap! As a landlord, who has been hit with tenants who had to choose whether to pay rent or gas bills this winter, this plan would put yet another financial burden on me, while helping out the cry babies who mostly, only have the one hit. The rebate, only for homesteads, payment plans... homesteads, sell the future for today's lean times... homesteads. All this means that the burden will shift to non-homestead properties. Tell me where else government goes in and makes any other business pay for everyone else.  (Jul 12, 2007 | post #388)

Thousands miss boat on tax rebate

She'll be hit even harder as a renter. As we've obviously allowed the less talented to enter our government, the greatest burden of this tax increase is placed on investment properties. I have a $115K 3 BR home in Warren Township with taxes greater than my $190K 4 BR residence in Fishers (both prior to exemptions). With the exemptions and tax rebate, it will end up almost double. The home owners are truely subsidized by the renters on this.  (Jul 3, 2007 | post #80)

Man shot while interceding in pit bull attack

Why not grandfather them in. Grant licenses, but only for a year. Then through attrition you could ban the breed... It would just be one less choice. Kind of like leaded fuel cars.. I'm just curious though, if this breed has the propensity to be so dangerous, why did the "responsible " owners get them in the first place? What is more special about this breed, other than its attacking abilities? We got a golden retriever because we thought they'd be good with the kids. If they banned goldens, we would have gotten something else.  (Jun 25, 2007 | post #19)

You don't have the right to do anything you want, even if you are responsible. If I have a reesponsible 18 year old son and we're out for dinner, I can't order him a glass of wine... but I understand the alcohol age limits... My personal freedoms traded for the betterment of society, this isn't new.  (Jun 25, 2007 | post #77)

Bla! Bla! Bla! Blame Bart. Bla! Bla! Bla! I didn't see where Bart Peterson was shooting the gun. Get off your soap box and blame the citizen's who are actually doing the crime. It doesn't surprise me that a Pit Bull Owner would also be carrying a hand gun,... and would shoot another person over a stupid beast  (Jun 24, 2007 | post #14)

So we keep spinning. The police didn't strangle the dope, they stopped him from swallowing. I could care less if he died also.  (Jun 22, 2007 | post #56)
