Why don't atheist and skeptics make a positive case for t...

I don't doubt that you know about death. You're arguing based upon what you know and have seen. What we talk about is something that we didn't see. But just because we didn't witness the resurrection of Christ doesn't mean that it didn't happen.  (Dec 30, 2012 | post #3330)

Why I’m no longer a Christian

They didn't need to. Each author had his own style, but they all lived in a "high context culture." We live in a "low context culture." That's why the gospels seem foreign to us.  (Dec 26, 2012 | post #429736)

Prove there's a god.

Whether we agree or not, I appreciate your honesty. I'd like to ask a few questions. Is it possible that you regard God as false because you didn't recognize the promises or understand the subtleties of His ways? Is it possible that you weren't given the proper pastoral support?  (Dec 18, 2012 | post #574932)

Prove there's a god.

What is to be gained from that? What comes from repaying evil for evil or insult for insult? Have love and respect become commodities to be earned or bought? Love to the highest bidder? Respect earned rather than given freely in goodwill? Those who think that way are further from knowing God than they will ever know.  (Dec 18, 2012 | post #574818)

Prove there's a god.

Some religions lean that way, but a surprising majority do not.  (Dec 18, 2012 | post #574816)

Hey did you hear about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac? He stays up all night, pondering about whether or not there really is a dog. LOL  (Dec 17, 2012 | post #76059)

You're probably correct. My observation is but a layman's understanding, but in the most general terms, I'd say I'm more likely correct than not.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #76045)

If you think you're superior, you obviously suffer from NPD. Enjoy your hike. Walk in God's grace and enjoy His creation. I pray for your safety and enjoyment. We look forward to your safe return from your physical vacation. We pray for your safe return from your long term mental vacation.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #76043)

Proposed Amended Criteria for the Narcissistic Personality Disorder Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates accomplishments, talents, skills, contacts, and personality traits to the point of lying, demands to be recognised as superior without commensurate achievements); Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion; Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions); Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation – or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (Narcissistic Supply); Feels entitled. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her unreasonable expectations for special and favourable priority treatment; Is "interpersona lly exploitative" , i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends; Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, needs, preferences, priorities, and choices of others; Constantly envious of others and seeks to hurt or destroy the objects of his or her frustration. Feels superior, omnipotent, omniscient, invincible, immune, "above the law", and omnipresent (magical thinking). Rages when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted by people he or she considers inferior to him or her and unworthy. http://samvak.trip od.com/npdglance.h tml Myth Buster obviously displays the bottom 7 on this list. Narcissistic Personality Disorder.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #76037)

Agreed. I know why he won't answer my question. He knows that treating people that way is wrong and that it will make him look bad if he gives a straight answer. He's his own God. He answers to himself and nobody else. His refusal to answer me is two parts: A- He won't allow himself to be held to a standard by those he feels are inferior, and B- It's all about damage control. He can't say he feels good about it without damaging his own credibility. However, in his quest to degrade, he has already lost credibility. Now he just compounds his mistakes with his cowardly refusal to tackle questions head on, honestly. Narcissism at it's best and he's too blind to see it.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #76036)

You've said that repeatedly. The subject isn't about whether or not anyone deserves contempt. The question is about HOW IT MAKES YOU FEEL TO DELIVER SUCH CONTEMPT. HOW DOES IT BENEFIT YOU PERSONALLY? I typed that in caps in case you're having trouble reading it. Now are you going to answer honestly or are you too cowardly? I want to know what benefit you personally gain.  (Dec 16, 2012 | post #76035)

I'll answer your question. I doubt you have the integrity to answer mine. I live in the Northeast. New York State. Now let's see if you can answer my question. What do you gain by treating theists with such disdain? Don't go giving me any spiel about your opinion that we deserve contempt. You've already said that. I want to know how it makes you feel, or what benefit you think you gain from treating believers the way you do. That's the only answer I'm interested in. Anything else you write is mindless drivel.  (Dec 15, 2012 | post #76028)

Supernatural involvement in the origin of the universe hasn't been ruled out. Maybe in your mind, and those who wish it to be that way, but the majority of the world population hasn't made a conclusive ruling on that yet and there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do about that.  (Dec 15, 2012 | post #76020)
