Bengals Football

I have neither played for the Bengals or Raiders (I did play for Bremen and the Midlothian Wildcats MANY years ago). I know Coach Mac and find him to be a very nice guy. He is also a good coach who has the respect of his players. My issue is with his play calling. He does not call plays that exploit the weakness of his opponent. As I mentioned in an earlier post, he ran our backs up the middle against Lemont when our linemen could not move their tackles but when Tevin Coleman took the ball outside, he would gain several yards per carry and only touched the ball 5 times in the game. Last week against Bremen, our wide receivers were taller and faster than Bremen's defensive backs but rarely had the ball thrown their way. I understand the QB is new (he is listed in the program as a WR) but they need to work on some passes in practice to run different plays! The few passes the threw worked well!  (Oct 9, 2013 | post #54)

Bengals Football

You can't argue with the success Coach Mac has had but I wonder how much more he would have had adjusted to the players he had. A couple years ago he kept running plays between Lemonts two 300+ pound tackles when our heaviest guy trying to move them was about 240..... We lost one game to them and Tevin Coleman, who is now starting running back for a Big 10 team and was an all-state player, touched the ball 5 times the whole game!! He ranks as one of the best HS players I have ever seen (been watching HS sports for 30+ years!) Oh yeah, and I was also a coach (in several sports) for 28 years and played football for almost 20. So, I have a little experience in team sports....  (Oct 2, 2013 | post #13)

I have been watching this team for several years and while I like Coach Mac, he has run the same offense with the same basic plays the entire time - regardless if the players fit the scheme or not! You need some decent size tackles to run the option style offense he runs and quick smaller guards. I don't think the tackles are moving anyone off the ball this season (at least they weren't Friday) and the quarterback made several ill advised plays (putting it nicely) that he needs to correct going forward! He may have had a bad game Friday (because he had a great game against Lemont the week before) but had it not been for a big defensive stand at the end of the game, Hillcrest would have upset the Bengals Homecoming plans!  (Sep 30, 2013 | post #4)

Is Midlothian the next Detriot

There are thousands of towns/villages that resemble Midlothian across the US now. The biggest problem we have is that when Rich Daley closed the projects, a LOT of those folks found their way to our town.  (Jul 31, 2013 | post #6)

New business in town?

I have heard the same thing about the landlord. A former business partner of mine was going to take a place in the strip mall Kenootz is in but they wouldn't let him in without signing a personal guarantee. So he went to Oak Lawn. I was told he was not a good person to deal with but I wish the new guys all the luck in the world. Like it was said, It's a start!!  (Jul 31, 2013 | post #22)

Football: Lemont blanks Bremen, 21-0

Somehow Lemont always winds up with a couple of 6'4", 300+ pound interior linemen that clog everything up since no one on Bremen, Oak Forest or Tinley usually is over 225 pounds! But, here's something I'll bet you now..... Oak Forest's coach will try running up the middle on about half of their plays when they meet Lemont in the last game of the year even though OF's linemen can't budge the 300+ guys at all! (he does it every year!!) I was not at the game (I was at OF for their homecoming game) and there was an audible gasp in the stadium when the halftime score was announced! Good job Braves!!  (Oct 3, 2011 | post #4)

Thoughts on Obama and 2012, who is voting for him?

Did you ever hear the saying "Just when I thought I hit rock bottom, some asshole throws me a shovel"? Someone just handed Obama his shovel. He will continue to fall in job approval because he is now alienating the strength of the power base that got him elected. He will be defeated in a similar manner to Walter Mondale when Reagan pounded him!  (Sep 22, 2011 | post #3)

Midlothian Baseball Fields

The school district used to own them (and probably still does) when I was involved with baseball and we paid a very small fee to the district and it was our job to maintain the property.  (Sep 14, 2011 | post #15)

Two things for you "on derek's side": I believe Felix was stabbed in the back as well as the chest - I was not there and have read that here multiple times - but you usually don't get stabbed in the back by someone acting in self defense. Also, my son was on the wrestling team with Felix and wrestling is a sport/competition. I do not know about Felix but my son has never been in a fight because of wrestling or any other reason. I was also a wrestler in high school and have not been in a fight since 8th grade. Let's stay tuned and see how the information comes out in the trial next month. I can't believe it took over two years to get to trial.  (Sep 14, 2011 | post #262)
