Superintendent Marvin Williams to retire Nov. 30

any reason is good enough for me Now, school board step up and find someone who will pull this district up by its bootstraps so our neighbors won't make fun of us anymore! I think whoever is hired should post all principal jobs next year and start over - those who are good shouldn't be worried.  (Aug 23, 2012 | post #24)

yep, we need a new super who doesn't use his power in the wrong way - how many people does it take to get a normal person fired? triple that at least and his sister still has a job! Its' not like they can't hire some other person of average intelligence, even a Polk dropout could do her job and be nicer about it.  (Aug 23, 2012 | post #23)

I like that idea about no left turns but you think some of them folks can read? They don't seem to be able to read them other ones. Near about got broadsided by a red pickup truck this morning wheeling around the front of the school dropping off precious and just barrelled thru that big old red sign that says STOP. When somebody hits me, I'll just sue the school. problem solved.  (Apr 13, 2012 | post #38)

question for Polk teachers

Youre right about some parents putting sports first. The parents I know can't ever find out what's going on at school. We need to make changes with the school board and get some folks who themselves are involved in the schools. Sad that the average person doesn't know who their rep is when they see them much less any of the others.  (Mar 14, 2012 | post #48)

school salaries

It's dang entertaining to read Scott's posts and he probably knows better than many of us what some of them bitchy teachers are like! KUDOS - I believe he was referring to the teachers having some common sense, not them teaching it. You either want to help kids learn and enjoy working with them .. or you don't. They can say whatever but some kids hate school cause of the teachers. What gets me are the teachers who howl when anybody complains but let them get you alone and they will rail on one of the other teachers, the principal, the superintendent, you name it. But OF COURSE "didn't hear it" from them. Face it, "playing " teacher is for kids. If you can't stand the parents so much do us all a favor and find another job because I don't know anybody who isn't underpaid for what they do. But I know lots who are overpaid. The bitching and whining is stupid and lots of people are getting tired of it. Parents are just today's excuse for them not knowing how to teach. And right now us taxpayers are footing the bill for intersession which is supposed to make up for what they can't do during the normal day. Don't make any sense to me. Busses running twice this afternoon wasting gas if you ask me.  (Mar 14, 2012 | post #58)

this is Donna McClure's position as per the job description for the opening for the same at Van Wert - don't know what "highly qualified" means but just so you know what it is she's supposed to do: Serves as the liaison between school and parents, relaying the needs of one to the other; educates teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners; advises and trains parents on how to address issues with the leadership staff in school meetings; serves as a school-based intermediary contact for concerns and comments made by parents and community members; provides referrals to community-based services for families; expands opportunities for continued learning, voluntary community service and civic participation; develops community collaborations; promotes sharing of power with parents as decision-makers; helps parents understand the educational system so they can become better advocates for their children's education; maintains parent resource center (where applicable). Must be Highly Qualified according to the No Child Left Behind Guideline and qualify for Paraprofessional Certificate OTHER THAN THE PIECE OF PAPER SAYING HER OFFICE WILL SEND OUT LETTERS ON A CERTAIN COLORED PAPER I HAVEN'T SEEN NOTHING FROM HER RE: PARENTS AND PROMOTING POWER OF PARENTS!  (Mar 5, 2012 | post #87)

Where do they find some of those people who work there? And how many complaints can someone get before they are gone? It's a joke.  (Mar 3, 2012 | post #84)
