Why Hard-Line Religionism Is Toxic
Fish, Finally got an answer on the XM/Sirrius merger. WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators formally approved the merger of the nation's only two satellite radio operators Friday, ending a 16-month-long drama closely watched by Washington and Wall Street. Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.'s $3.3 billion buyout of rival XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. will mean 18 million-plus subscribers will be able to receive programming from both services. Executives say it will mean huge cost savings that will lead to a first-ever profit for the relatively nascent industry. The Federal Communications Commission voted 3-2 to approve the buyout, with the tiebreaker coming Friday night from Republican commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate. Tate had insisted that the companies settle charges that they violated FCC rules before she would approve the deal. The companies agreed this week to pay $19.7 million to the U.S. Treasury for violations related to radio receivers and ground-based signal repeaters. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin confirmed the final vote Friday night. ``I think it's going to be, in the end, a good thing for consumers and be in the public interest,'' Martin told The Associated Press. ``Consumers will enjoy a variety of programming at reduced prices and more diversified programming choices.'' Subscribers will not have to buy new radios to receive a mix of programming from both services, according to the companies. But if they want to pursue a special pay-per-channel a la carte option, they will need new sets. (19 hrs ago | post #1712)
Non-believers - Why do you care????
I hope you follow ALL those archaic Leviticus rules. (19 hrs ago | post #469)
Non-believers - Why do you care????
I have a 6 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. They both know my gay friends, they have since about age 3. It's not a concept that they can't handle. They just know that my friends are a couple and love each other. They see nothing wrong with it, they just see two people who love each other. I haven't taught them bigotry and hate though. Non-believers - Why do you care????
Personally, I don't care if you are a Christian or a gay Christian. The problem comes in when Christians start to use their religion to make policy. You aren't just spreading your belief, you try to write your beliefs into law. Otherwise, why would you care if gays got married? (Thursday | post #107)
You didn't mention church, but you did call it a religious doctrine. Post #29 http://www.topix.n et/forum/topstorie s/T32TUVS1E54V8C8N M/p2 (Thursday | post #5794)
The James Ossuary has been proven a forgery by the srael Antiquities Authority. "Israeli magazine Maariv correspondent Boaz Gaon reported that IIA Theft Unit had focused their attention of the "Jehoash Inscription" as being an expensive bait to defraud a prominent collector in London. Israeli investigators linked a phony business card and a telephone number to a Tel Aviv private eye who admitted that his employee was Oded Golan, the "collector " who owned the James Ossuary. Oded denied that he was the owner of the stone and claimed that the real owner was a Palestinian antiquities dealer who lived in an area under Palestinian Authority and must therefore remain nameless. A March 19, 2003, article in Maariv reported that the court had issued a search warrant for Golan's apartment, office and rented warehouse. The search brought forth incriminating documents and photographs of Golan beside the Jehoash Inscription. Under interrogation, Golan promised to reveal the locations of the stone in exchange for immunity from prosecution but was refused. Then police made a new search in a storage space that Golan had rented in Ramat Gan but had not disclosed to the police. They found scores of dubious artifacts, forged ancient seals and other inscriptions in various stages of production and tools and documentation to help in the manufacture of the forgeries. Under harsh questioning, Golan reputedly broke down, confessed and promised to hand over the Jehoash Inscription." Sorry Kay, just wanted you to know the deceit behind those reports.
