Tell me, oh black one, why is it that you only seem to care only about the civil rights of blacks? Having experienced discrimination, one would think you would find it abhorrent in any situation, but you and your fellow blacks in California certainly don't think so. DC Gay Marriage Opponents Run Out Of Options
These so called "men of God" have stated that they will go after DC councilmen who vote for this recognition. Since their tax-free status forbids them from endorsing people in elections these "ministers' " sermons should be recorded and if they violate this agreement, they should be prosecuted and their tax free status revoked. She has to "write" her book for Rupert Murdoch's publishing house which may be the impetus for her resignation; she needs the time to finish that AND maintain her speech tour (stay in the public eye!) in the "lower 48." Can you imagine wanting to be a future president, yet resigns her governorship to "write a book?" She really is a joke. I was in the Nuremberg, Germany community in the 80's when Gen Shalikashvili was the community commander. Everyone was quite impressed that such a young man had made general and thought him to be an excellent commander. It seems we didn't know what a great and fair person he really is. As another old fart, I think you've been under the bus so long just a glimpse of daylight seems thrilling. Honestly, Obama has had plenty of time to do little things, like putting a stop-loss on gays being thrown out of the military, getting the top military brass to even discuss rejecting DADT, or even having the DOJ change their brief describing gay marriage as incest, etc. Gays gave Obama much support during the election, and he has not given one meaningful act/thought in return. You are so right! Could Obama have done less? The answer is Hell No! It is more of an insult than anything else. These "benefits " would probably have been mandated shortly, so he thinks he can appear to be "gay friendly" by announcing some trivial benefits to federal employees. As a retired federal employee who was in foreign service, I can assure you there is very little he is giving. He's lost my vote unless something of substance happens very shortly! And for money? Sorry, Eric, but you seem satisfied with the measly crumbs being given today. The fact is that Obama has done NOTHING for us. Gays are still being thrown out of the military; he has not changed DOJ's outrageous claim that gay marriage is the same as incest and pedofilia in their quest to RETAIN DOMA. And then to expect us to give them more money?! What balls!! I do hope those in attendance: 1. give NO money and 2. make sure Biden understands that there will be NO money or support for this administration's betrayal in promises made. For those who are saying give him more time, all I have to say is,"Are you crazy? He could have done many things but has decided we're not that important. I'm sorry, I don't think the average person will really care if a church is taxed or not. Why shouldn't they pay taxes like every other person and institution? Tax exemept status was designed to help organizations that provided social services. With the rise of a welfare state, churches' contributions to the welfare of society is almost nil. Backfire? I think it will make bigots think twice before putting their tax free institutions in danger of paying their fair share. (May 23, 2009 | post #35)
