Thousands celebrate diversity of Las Cruces at pride fest

Maybe you haven't gotten out of the Mesilla Valley much, so I'll let you know: there are many pride events across the country that are more like bawdy bacchanals, with plenty of in-your-face sexuality. The pride event in Las Cruces, however, is QUITE different. It celebrates the diversity of our community in a *family friendly* atmosphere that is much more about promoting togetherness and love. This was hardly the sort of spectacle you make it out to be. And I don't even know where to begin addressing your comments on "a sexual identity crisis at age eight." Kids are going to figure themselves out in due time, without help or influence from anyone, and it has nothing to do with events like this. Take any queer kid growing up in rural America without pride events, or exposure to any sort of "agenda" some would like to think the community is pushing, as an example.  (Jun 19, 2011 | post #16)

Bravo, S. Derrickson Moore. Way to take the copy from a press release, VERBATIM, and put your name on it.  (Jun 16, 2011 | post #4)

Saying Farewell: Franco ready for 'First Dude' role

Gee, Debby. . . why don't you upload a photo of yourself so we can see how beautiful YOU are? Hopefully you're not as ugly as your comments. I'm not a huge fan of Ms. Martinez, but there's no need to get hateful.  (Dec 10, 2010 | post #6)

Voter registration form tampering reported

I think they did mention it: "When our staff members discovered those discrepancies, they contacted the persons who filled out the forms to verify the information, because they did not know how to enter it," Ellins said.  (Oct 29, 2010 | post #6)

Vasconellos named new DAAC executive director

You have GOT to be one sad, unenlightened little person. The last "anglo" executive director was a very difficult person to work with, by all accounts. That didn't go over so well. Not that ANY of these peoples' talents (or lack, thereof) have anything to do with their SKIN color. Ignoramus. I myself, being of mostly Scandinavian / Irish decent, am about as "anglo" as they come, and personally, I like the cultural diversity that this town seems to (mostly!) embrace. Feel free to move, we won't stop you.  (Jul 11, 2010 | post #2)

Gay Pride event draws crowd in Las Cruces

Right. . . teachings from 2000+ years ago, for a much different world, that in some cases have little to no applicability to the world we live in today. And as far as mother nature is concerned, let's talk about the wide variety of species that exhibit homosexual behavior.  (Jun 20, 2010 | post #39)

Gay Pride event draws crowd in Las Cruces

Nobody is shoving ANYTHING down anybody's throat here. No one was forcing anyone to come and participate in this event, nor to read the articles about it. Furthermore - the heterosexual parade is happening every single day, all over the world. The VAST majority of all advertising, marketing, et cetera is geared towards heterosexuals, or promotes the heterosexual lifestyle and, indeed, sexuality. If you don't believe that, let's talk about how much sex / sexuality is used in the media to sell just about anything. It is no less okay to be gay than it is to be a hate monger, but it doesn't look like either camp is going away ANY time soon.  (Jun 20, 2010 | post #38)
