Ax falling on GM dealers

In my community, one dealer sells 2 Chrysler brands (Jeep and Chrysler). A second dealer, the better one for customer service, sells Dodge only. BOTH make a profit. Because Chrysler wants dealers to sell all 3 brands, they are literally TAKING the franchise from the Dodge guy and handing it to the Jeep guy. O.K., mister free-market rah-rah American...what is "free market" about that? In MY America, the Jeep guy has to BUY the assets of the Dodge guy. In the world of bankruptcy broken contracts, its not who you know, its who you *low!  (May 15, 2009 | post #15)

Ax falling on GM dealers

The streets must be paved with gold there in Morristown, New Jersey...since you don't need any local car dealers. My local dealer has been profitable from day one, he employs 36 people. He has provided cars for the local high school drivers ed for 50 years, he pays plenty of payroll taxes, sales taxes and property taxes. Thanks to the Chrysler bankruptcy, he has been told that he is stuck with the cars on the lot and the parts in the service department. Tell me again how "good" this is for my community. That "horrendously inefficient" way of doing business has employed people for 2 generations and kept our community strong. All the "free markets rule" crap will come back to haunt us once again.  (May 15, 2009 | post #4)

Obama at Notre Dame: Ignoring 2,000 years of faith for a ...

This thread has a lot of thoughtful posts, but I particularly like this one. For a nation that belittles the Muslim extremists that will die for their faith, we sure could use a lesson on tolerance ourselves.  (May 15, 2009 | post #115)

Plaxico Burress no answer for Chicago Bears

Coach Smith is an excellent coach for guys like Burress. Coach is quiet and yet powerful, there would be no shouting matches with the gun-totin' hot head. Burress is still an amazingly gifted receiver, and with a little bit of the Coach's "southern preacher" reasoning in him, he might find redemption in more ways than one!  (Apr 8, 2009 | post #86)

Chicago lawyer, ex-Playboy columnist sues for sexual hara...

If Hagopian harassed her, he has got to be dumber than a box of rocks. Who harasses an attorney who writes columns about sexual harassment? Duh. If there is no backstory on this about a relationship gone sour, the guy deserves to live in a cardboard box under the North Avenue viaduct. Sheeesh.  (Mar 31, 2009 | post #30)

Chicago happy to see Rex Grossman go

Alright, here we go....the best ever Rex Grossman joke of the day: What do Rex Grossman and Billy Graham have in common? Either one could put 80,000 people in Soldier Field and get them to shout out "Jesus Christ!" Budda boom.  (Feb 26, 2009 | post #280)

Burris inquiries urged

I can say a lot of things about Caribou Barbie, but devine is far from them. What part of this gun-totin' redneck baby-makin' machine gives her this "divinity "? Sheeesh.  (Feb 18, 2009 | post #253)

Economist predicts downturn will end May 15, at the latest

MMMMMmmmmm. Let me guess. I'm guessing that Parsec Financial is a Wealth Management firm. I'm guessing that this guy makes a commission for selling mutual funds to his wealthy clients who might want to buy more before they "jump in value" by May 15th. MMMmmmmm. I'd rarely trust an "economist " who works for a financial services company.  (Feb 6, 2009 | post #11)

Profiles in cowardice

The editorial writers of a bankrupt newspaper are telling the citizens of a bankrupt state that they need to pay for a special election to punish Blago. sigh Roland Burris is an honest man. Excellent checkmate by Blago. He's gotta be laughing!  (Jan 8, 2009 | post #81)

Christie Hefner talks to the Tribune about leaving Playboy

When Hef became the age of his girlfriends' fathers, that was a little sick. Now that Hef is the age of their grandfathers...tha t's really sick. IF Hef had quit 20 years ago and got out of the public eye, Christie would have had a fighting chance. But, even though she is a woman, she has to deal with that terrible disease known as "S.O.B." disease. That disease, also known as "son-of-the-b oss" disease, can influence every single moment of the junior generation's life experience. No matter how great she was, someone would always discount her ability as simply a gift from her old man. Sigh  (Dec 8, 2008 | post #12)

Mark Cuban charged in insider trading case

When you read the entire complaint, it looks like Cuban was being manipulated by executives to force him to buy into the PIPE. If he had no interest in the PIPE, yet he was told all about it as an effort to SELL him, he truly did get "screwed. " They made his stake in Momma worthless but then said, "Sorry, but you know you can't sell this now that we told you about it."  (Nov 17, 2008 | post #65)
