Dangerous Streets in Fulton

May I ask how you managed to get a sidewalk? Is your sidewalk still nice or is it all cracked up like mine? If you got a sidewalk that is nice then you must be a mighty important somebody. And why would Fulton let you pay a little each year for your sidewalk, like Chicago does, because they told me I had to hire an outsourcer and pay them my half up front. So again, how did you get a sidewalk because nobody has the rest of us how to do it and we wanna know! Yes, the rest of us want a nice sidewalk too but City of Fulton refuses to allow it.  (Dec 26, 2010 | post #58)

First off all I can't remember you ever helping me pay my taxes. So where do you get off pretended like you and other selfish others pay our taxes? And I did buy some of the old homes to repair and then resell at a price that the have nots could afford to be home owners. However, if you are told in onbe office you can do something then another office will tell you no. If City of Fulton agrees for you to do something they the City of Fulton won't even come out to mark the utilities then your work project is a no go. City of Fulton is smaller today than the it weas founded and it is the City of Fulton's fault. The City sits around on it's brains paying the bills and concentrating of some kind of stupid law like not parkind in your yard or if men chewing tobacco can spit on City property. Why don't yhey do something, anything? As for no jobs City of Fulton don't want any jobs that is whey they don't look for any possible employeers and they run off any employers that are stupid enough to offer. Evidently you are part of the city counsel all rared back on your thumb doind nothing.  (Dec 26, 2010 | post #7)

You are right and I wrote the same thing on the Cairo Topix the day before you wrote yours. City of Fulton and City of Cairo have had no government worth having in over 60 years. This is why both towns condemn and demolish everything in their path with no plans what so ever to replace any of it. Now, Cairo has a arsonist and Fulton is condemning everything they see. Soon both Fulton and Cairo will have no tax payers to pay their salaries --they can all clock out and go home at that point. The very idea of tearing down a whole town with no plans at all to rebuild it. Only a bunch of idiots work like that. You act like you like City of Fulton so good --just keep on staying there until the bring your house down too. You will see then that City of Fulton cares about nobody including you.  (Dec 25, 2010 | post #5)

Cairo IL Entitlements

Think again you dip. I have been in the helping professions for 31 years --welfare is technically not an entitlement but it ought to be. Despite that there really are the frail elderly, the truly disable and the little kids caught up in it all whom we as a civilized society should be taking care of. The stats on the purely lazy people on welfare are a really low percentage. So should we take welfare away from everybody just keep a few lazy people from receiving benefits? No! Because the truly needy would suffer and die. You are so stuck up, selfish, even jealous --it’s pitiful. You have no heart for anyone except for yourself and if I remember right the helping professions call people like you who are devolve of compassion for others is called a sociopath. There you go baby doll you are a sociopath and ought to be locked up in old abandoned Manteno because you are probably a danger to society. Next time you want to pick on somebody leave the have-not out of it.  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #5)

Cairo Housing Authority

A washing machine and dryer is not a luxury but rather a necessity. So think again oh low one. You dip! How would you like to give up your appliances? What else do you call a luxury --a land line phone so that disable and elderly people can't even call an ambulance for themselves? Is a local hospital another luxury you dope? Must be because you haven't had one since the 1970's. Is food a luxury if you buy more than just beans and potatoes? Let me tell you I have been in the helping professions 31 years and if you worked for me I would I would fire you so you could see how it feels to be the have-nots. I tell you I am having a very hard time trying not to give you a good cussing --the thoughts of jail time is all that deters me from it. But if you can think up a filthy word then baby I think it of you. Go eat a cow patty!  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #48)

Let's Face It - There is No Hope for Cairo

Merry Christmas everybody. If yous think you got a bunch of mental cases in your local government then try taking a look at Fulton, KY. Listen, City of Fulton has been condemming places and demolishing them for about 30 years. But listen, they have made no plans what so ever to replace what they demolish. UMMMM, if they demolish another house or so Fulton will go off the map. There won't be anybody left to live in Fulton to pay taxes so guess at that point the city officials can clock out and go home for good. And yes, City of Cairo is just as sorry.  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #25)

Men who built the Cairo Traffic Bridge 1928

Where is the Cairo traffic bridge? Just wondering if you are writing about the Ohio River Highway Bridge (the one from IL to KY)? If so that particular bridge was finished and open for traffic just in time for football season 1938. My granddaddy Wm. Aquilla Jourdan was a welder on that bridge.  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #10)

UMMMM, ExFulton, hopefully in the next 2 years I too will be an ec. I don't like a town that takes no responsibility for what it owns and then lets the city decay into a ruin. Anyway thanks for the info and I will pass it on to the people in Cairo. Merry Christmas.  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #3)

I miss Cairo

Did you own KFC in Cairo in the 1980’s? I am a Chicagoan but had been moved off to TN when I was in the 2dn grade. A write that sentence lightly but believe me they took me to TN with me kicking and screaming because I didn’t want to go. After I got grown I used to drive 90 miles from Carroll County TN just to eat in your restaurant. Eating in you KFC was a thrill to me because once I crossed that river into Cairo I knew I was home again. Do you remember Cairo back when all those huge green flies were all over the place in the 1980‘s? Well one day my late husband, our little daughter and I went into your KFC to eat. When we got back in the car there was an old green fly big like a horse fly in the back windo buzzing around. My daughter was scared of that fly so I told her to climb over the seat to the front so that horse fly wouldn’t bit her. So she climbed over and was sitting so silently. Finally she asked. “Mama how did it do it? I asked, “How did what do what?” She replied, “How did that horse turn into a fly?”  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #19)

Businesses in Cairo

I can’t remember Janie Rae’s husband’s name. I am nearly sure Janie Rae married a Bass as her second marriage and evidently was not still married when she died because her obit did not mention a husband. And I am fairly sure she has a daughter still alive in the Cairo area named Ivy Cripps. I remember Iva Louise and daughter Janie Rae from many years ago. They were both born on Old Saw Mill Road at the Baker home in McConnell, TN. But they lived several places in KY, IL and even St. Louis. Aunt Ruth Webb-Harper also live in KY, MO and Cairo. Aunt Ruth had a sister in Chaffee named Elsie but Aunt Elsie had been married so many times I lost track of her name. Come to think of it Iva Louise had also been married many times and she is buried out on 3 I guess in the Tamms area. But Janie Rae was buried in Wickliffe. I tell you I love all these people from my childhood and will never forget them. Now them Baker girls are tricky because Iva Louise had a cousin Anice Stella Louise Baker-Reynolds before she married and both had daughters name Janie Rae. This Janie Rae is still alive. And Anice Stella Louis had a little sister named Sally Baker-Butler-Birch whom lived in Cairo.  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #43)

What Happened to Cairo, Illinois?

Say FYI, do you remember back when there was no I-57? I can remember when there were no roads except the 2 lane highways. Cars leaving Chicago on holidays would be slow, sometimes traffic would be jammed for many miles and bumper to bumper. Then I-57 started in the 1960’s and at first it was in 3 long stretches Finally it was finished from Chicago to Cairo Exit I. Later after that I-57 finally went on to MO. Yes, Illinois is the best place to be in the whole world.  (Dec 23, 2010 | post #5)
