Don Small III Profile
Hey guys, i am the owner of the bait shop in Liberal and have had a lot of people asking me whats going on at Clear Lake. I have not fished that body of water for years and am wanting to post a detailed report in my shop within the next week or so. Also, does anyone know if Canton ever filled back up and if there is a trout season there still? The Oklahoma department of wildlife's website is an absolute mess (look at Kansas's website and you'll see what i mean.) and i cannot even find these 2 lakes on there or a report for them that isnt a decade old (lol come on guys i know we are in the styx but we are gonna have to do better with this internet thing.) and no other websites discussing them. The last time i fished Clearlake was back in early 2004 and it had Long-nose Gar, are they still there? Anyways, any help is much appreciated and if your curious my shop is located at 708 S Kansas in Liberal (right next to Smokey J's smoke shop, Liberal Vacuum and Weber). Look for my sign on the curb that says LIVE BAIT in big red letters with 2 american flags sticking out the top and an arrow pointing to the back (back entrance is temporary, if you know any licensed CHEAP contractors PLEASE LET ME KNOW!). I am open from 9AM to 8PM(sometimes 10) daily. (Jul 10, 2013 | post #1)
Also be prepared for high rent. Landlords in the area have had no choice but to raise rent pretty high to pay for all the damages done to their rentals and all the back rent from people not paying like they are supposed to.....which brings me to a good point..PAY...YOUR...RENT...like your supposed to or go mortgage a house and stop ripping people off. If Hugoton gets a local fish spot before Liberal does i am going to be very upset. We have a huge lake in town (sewer lake) that has gigantic catfish and carp in it but if your not a member of the pistol club or the skeet club you cant get access. All it would take is a little work and an "ok" from the city to let people go out there. It's the same water that flows out to Arkalon so im sure it would be safe for all species of fish. That's news on me but if you want to give it a go you can stop by my bait shop in Liberal. It's on S. Kansas (main street) in the same strech of buildings as Weber, look for my sign. It has LIVE BAIT in big red letters. Entrance is in the back untill i find an acceptable price on reinstalling the front door. Ive got all kinds of live stuff from minnows to grubs to worms and crickets. I am sold out of carp bait at the moment, people have been catching alot of giant carp at Arkalon, I am assuming that is what's going to be in those drainage ponds but i might be wrong and we may just have a new fishing spot unless it dries out. " They have donated hundreds of thousands of $'s to this community in the form of playgrounds, coats for kids, housing repairs, etc. Find something else to do" Not to this community they haven't. If they have i would like to know where that new playground is and whos house they fixed and where my kids coat is! My bill also jumped up and went back down after the new meters were installed. Myob and la la la-Go away trolls. we are having a discusion here. (Jun 18, 2013 | post #11)
i would get that checked out! (Jun 18, 2013 | post #5)
ya, there is, but they have no power (look under my name.). If i had the power to moderate posts, this forum would be so much better. (May 20, 2013 | post #12)
Hi, been lurking around here and there and saw this post. My bill has also gone up and back down like Dan's, also on a storage building with nothing but a radio and a motion activated security light and pop machine. My bill before the new meters:$27 in the winter, $32 in the summer, for 4 years running. After the new meters were installed on my building: bill jumped to $288 and next month it went back down to $32. As with Dan, i went down to their office to get an explanation and they could not give me one. Next month, the bill also conveniently dropped. Im with Dan on us getting charged for these new meters. These things are nothing but a GIANT loophole created by the utility companies in this country to screw over their consumers easier and without a record. I say a lawsuit needs to be filed against Southern Pioneer, but the problem with that is, if we win, they can just give us credit on our future bills, they dont have to give out any cash, so basically they still screw us. If enough complaints are sent into the utilities commission, something will eventually be done, but the complaints will probably have to be in the thousands for them to even look at it. well to be honest with you, if you had a choice, i would stay towards the SE, maybe even texas (thats where i am now). I have moved to springs and back from springs about 5 times now and im not doing it again. there are no full time jobs, if you have a degree you might get in at Mcdonalds or mop a floor somewhere. i have a 3yr Human Resources degree and i couldnt find anything in my field and ended up working fast food or janitorial all 5 times ive been there. Housing is an absolute joke. Small, dirty, beat up run down apartments going for like 700/month small houses going for 2Grand/month. you might get lucky like i did and find a house in manitou for cheap, i got a small 2BR up in the hills in Manitou for $750 (still too much, i used to pay 450 for a house this size in Kansas). It was a nice place but unfortunately its usually a "reserved " type rental house where the leases are seasonal and often pre-paid in full. I had to move when June came, but not bad i had that house from late October untill then and the guy actually trippled my deposit for not wreking the place. But ya, it really is just a guessing game out here and more times than not, a numbers game as well. (Feb 27, 2013 | post #2)
This is so retarded, the only ones stirring up any controversy is this news station. I would gladly have bought a couple of these stickers if i had been there and if anyone asked any questions about it, i would state very calmly "if they were here legally and came through the correct channels, dotted their I's, crossed their T's, took the naturalisation test, got their citezenship. then this doesn't apply to them, they have no need to worry!" It seems as though the actual meaning OF "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT" has been lost. i have no problems with LEGAL immigrants but the ILLEGAL ones need to GTFO and do it right or never come back! There is a process that must be followed and if you hop the fence or cross that river, you are NOT following that process and if someone shoots you, i have no problem with it because your not supposed to be here in the first place. go back and do it right and you will find people are quite friendly! p.s. if you want to get together and do a group buy i have an online supplier with a 100% live arival guarantee and very healthy livestock, only problem is minimum order is about $250 icluding about 60 in shipping. (Mar 23, 2012 | post #3)
Hey Joe, i went in to Fish World yesterday and can see your frustration. that has got to be the sorriest fish store i have seen in this town for quite a while. What ever happened to stores like Ooh's&Ahh's and the fish store in the mall? those were AWESOME fish stores in Liberal, same thing with The Pet Shop when it was on Main Street where mema's is now. what happened to those stores?!?!?!!? anyways, my suggestion to you is either make the drive to Amarillo or even better Woodward, get yourself a styrofoam ice chest with lid and a small portable air pump with some stones and a bottle of SeaChem Stressguard and use one capfull per LARGE bag. if its a small bag, do a half cap. this is how i get my fish and havent lost a single one, especially the ones from woodward. your best bet is to go around in your neighborhood and others and take a survey and see if they would be willing to join in on the law suit. I also had to get a lawyer from topeka because all of the lawyers around this area are basicly on the cities payroll. seriously, go around and take a survey and if it happened to them ask them if they would like to join in the class action suit and get all contact info and forward it to your attorney. Please forward this to the SWKCWG there is a link to it somewhere on the forums here. I am very very VERY dissapoitned in the actions the C.O.L. has taken in the past few months from wasting money on "registration sweeps" to killing the towns garage sales (ALL of them. i can understand shutting down the ones selling all new stuff but they enacted an ordinance that affects ALL yard sales) and now this. do you know why they are picking on mobile homes? Because i sued the living CRAP out of this town for towing a vehicle out of my own driveway at my house with not so much as even a knock and the idiot tow truck driver toasted the clutch, flywheel and first gear from towing it with clutch engaged and vehicle LOCKED. NOTICE TO ALL PEOPEL AFFTECTED: TELL THEM TO GO GET A WARRANT! FILM IT! GET PAID! (Feb 11, 2012 | post #3)
heh, the smae can be said for most of this entire area with the exceptions of MAYBE Dodge and Garden. When i moved to denver and Co Springs for 3 years and then came back i was like "WTF MAN F@CKING DRIVE GODDAMNIT!" Everybody drives 5 fuckign miles an hour here! (Feb 11, 2012 | post #3)
