Time To Put Bite Into Law On Blight

How about if the rest of the people in the neighborhood don't litter in the first place. Or maybe pick up the litter. Thats what would happen in my (admittedly suburban) neighborhood. Don  (Jun 9, 2009 | post #5)

No Need For Another Law

Its not just that. There is nothing unsafe about a passenger drinking in a car. NOTHING. Amazingly, the FAA considers it to be safe for passengers to drink in my 2 seat airplane. I think thats because the FAA treats us like adults and understands that the pilot will not drink from the passenger's drink and then just pass it back over. Don  (Jun 9, 2009 | post #3)

State Senate Passes Bill To Prohibit Open Containers Of A...

This is just ridiculous stupidity. It will do nothing to help safety. If people really want to get serious, lower DRIVER BAC requirements need to be put in place. Its funny that I can fly my airplane while my passengers drink. All perfectly legal. Why? Because the pilot needs to be sober. .02 and 8 hours "bottle to throttle" I enjoy having a beer if my wife is driving and will continue to do so even if the law passes. Again, as long as the driver is not impaired, whats the harm?  (May 27, 2009 | post #42)

Hartford Mayor Vetoes Millions In Budget Cuts

The best quote ever came from our disgraced ex-governor. It had to do with the unions protesting his directive that only 1 man was to ride on a plow during a snow storm. Prior to that 2 men crewed a plow. He said something like "I'm sorry, but they're just going to have to hold their own coffee" I love that.  (May 22, 2009 | post #2)

Hartford Mayor Vetoes Millions In Budget Cuts

The cuts will harm the neighborhoods huh? So will raising taxes on the few people who actually live in hartford and pay taxes. It will drive them out, reduce the grand list a bit more. Then the Courant will p155 and moan about sprawl. How predictable. How sad.  (May 22, 2009 | post #1)

Schumer: Intrepid Should Host Retired Shuttle

Yes he should. But short of the National Air and Space Museum, I cant think of a better home for a shuttle. And the NASM already has a shuttle.  (May 21, 2009 | post #3)

Old Saybrook Police Chief To Retire

He'd have to arrest half of his officers first. They're the worst offenders. And before you tell me that there is an exemption for police, you should know that that exemption applies only to official business. And if its a department issued phone, billing records are subject to FOI requests. Don  (May 21, 2009 | post #73)

Student Groups Divided On Right To Carry Guns On Campus

Evie, You've got a few things wrong. We dont have a gun problem. We have a crime problem. A gun is just a tool used by many people, including criminals. No laws will take the guns out of the hands of criminals. The laws only take the hands out of (by definition) law abiding citizens. Re your comment about students with guns in bags. That would be a very irresponsible way to carry a handgun. It needs to be under your control at all times. A bag does not accomplish that. The gun should be carried on your person, in a holster. Like I've said before in this thread, I carried when I was a 21 yr old college student. It saved my bacon at least once and nobody knew I carried it. For a while, not even my roommate.  (May 21, 2009 | post #491)

Ban Doesn't Address Adult Use Of Weapons

Gimme I'm a gun nut. I dont believe a lot of the doomsday stuff about blue helmeted UN troops. However, I do believe that the anti-gun folks have used and intend to use a divide and conquer strategy. Today its .50 caliber "sniper rifles" and "assault rifles" Tomorrow its "cop killer bullets" (psst. heres a little tidbit. any standard rifle round will go clean through a cops vest. Their vests were designed to protect against hand guns) After that its "high capacity magazines" Nibble nibble nibble. Think about how you would react if the government gradually started to diminish your 1st, 4th or 5th Amendment rights? The 2nd Amendment protects the individual right (now that its been adjudicated) to own firearms as surely as the 1st Amendment protects your right to criticize your elected leaders. Ban Doesn't Address Adult Use Of Weapons

Chewbone, The VA tech shooter did not use a machine gun or a semi-auto rifle. But here is the interesting thing. A bill that would have closed the loop hole that allowed him to get a gun despite his documented mental condition was SUPPORTED by the NRA. It was opposed by the American Psychiatric Institute (I may have the name slightly wrong) on patient privacy grounds. Also. If the rest of the students had not been disarmed by policies that forbid their carrying of weapons (this is VA remember) , then maybe the psycho could have been stopped.
