Convicted killer pulls gun at Gulfport airport

What a sensational headline! I am going to give this man the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he feared that the gun would get into the wrong hands if he didn't remove it. And if he was trying to hide something or get away it something, why would he turn it in to a place teeming with security? I will suspend judgment til we find out where the gun came from.  (Mar 12, 2013 | post #2)

SB 2369 Ms Medical Marijuana bill

Why would it be dead? Most Mississippians support legalization of cannabis... Write your state reps and tell them how you stand.  (Feb 19, 2013 | post #13)

Do you approve of Steven Palazzo as Representative?

No, as some people have already pointed out, Palazzo doesn't respond at all. Like many others, I have sent him respectful letters requesting information and urging him to support legislation. What I've always gotten in return is some computer-generated form letter. In fact, I now have 4 of those letters responding to four different things and have receieved the same exact letter for each of them. I am very disappointed in his performance as a representative... Palazzo supports his party more than his people.  (Feb 9, 2013 | post #25)

SB 2369 Ms Medical Marijuana bill

SEND YOUR REP A LETTER! History has occurred in Congress! On February 5, 2013, Representative Jared Polis (D-CO) introduced a bill to regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol at the federal level. Following MPP’s historic 2012 ballot initiative victory in Colorado, making the personal use and cultivation of marijuana legal for all adults, along with a similar initiative in Washington State, members of Congress now see the writing on the wall. They know it is only a matter of time before the cultivation and sale of marijuana is legal across the country. This bill establishes a regulatory structure for marijuana at the federal level. Please ask your U.S. representative to support this bill. http://www.mpp.org /  (Feb 6, 2013 | post #8)

Miss. sovereignty bill fizzles for lack of vote

Federal law trumps state law only in areas where the Constitution gives federal gov't auhority. There are too many federal laws on the books that are not authorized for them to make... Maybe things will change when our legislators, both state and federal, learn more about and pay attention to what the US Constitution says.  (Feb 5, 2013 | post #1)

SB 2369 Ms Medical Marijuana bill

You are partially right. Medical Marijuana is not the same as legalizing it for recreational use. If you drive under the influence of any prescription drug that intoxicates, you can get a DUI. What they can no longer do is arrest you for possession if you have an Rx card. As for getting fired, no. If medical marijuana is legalized, employers would ask for your Rx card if you test positive... otherwise, they would be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act if they fire you for taking prescribed medication. Many proponents of legalization believe that medical marijuana is a step toward total legalization. That strategy has worked in other states already. So, the poster you replied to is not off his rocker.  (Feb 1, 2013 | post #6)

Bryant Releases Plan to Spend Oil Spill Money

I hink callig their plan for "better transportation services" is misleading... they are only planning to give MDOT more contracts... more road repairs and improvements... I saw nothing about a plan to create more "services " like public transit to more areas, or commuter train from New Orleans to Pensacola that we could really use. AS usual, MDOT gets the lion's share of disaster funding to keep our politicians cronies and relatives happy. Yes, I'm bitter and skeptical.  (Jan 29, 2013 | post #1)

More charges in prostitution case with illegal immigrants

The article states: "six counts that include two conspiracy charges alleging the harboring of women for financial gain and immoral purposes." This is HUMAN TRAFFICKING! Call it what it is! Why is the Sun Herald and WLOX and our local judicial system afraid to use that term? Perhaps it's the cognitive dissonance... that they cannot accept that such heinous crimes happen in our own community... But get over it! Name the crime and use HT laws to prosecute the offenders.  (Jan 29, 2013 | post #1)

Marijuana - Gulfport, MS

This is a Medical Marijuana Bill, but it would be a good first step... for anyone interested in reading it: http://billstatus. ls.state.ms.us/doc uments/2013/pdf/SB /2300-2399/SB2369I N.pdf I also encourage everyone to write Sen. Dawkins for her tenacity and common sense. In the bill, it states something very important that the public should know, especially those who feel strongly abut states' rights: "The state is not required to enforce federal law or prosecute people for engaging in activities prohibited by federal law." In other words, we can make up our own minds, and do what is best for our own sovereign state.  (Jan 25, 2013 | post #15)

Marijuana - Gulfport, MS

Thajnk you for posting this! I got the same form letter... Palazzo didn't even address the specific issues I wrote him about. In other words, his mind is made up and he doesn't care that others might have concerns about his decisions... he's just parrotting his party rhetoric without thinking... And yes, we need to support Sen. Dawkins and I think we have ebnough Mississipians who'd like to see the drug war end... enough to get signatures and put it on the ballot in our state.  (Jan 25, 2013 | post #14)

Mardi Gras and Super Bowl anticipation cause high tourism...

Here is a good article for you to read. Children are recruited and raped for profit every single day in this country... the Super Bowl is the most profitibale... and I am talking about children ages 3 and up, not young adults, and I am also not talking about adults who consent to sex for money. And when someone buys sex, they have no idea if that person is a slave or not because they would be beaten or worse for telling anyone they do not consent. Human trafficking is as prolific and profitable as weapons and drug trafficking... http://www.foxnews .com/us/2012/02/02 /human-trafficking -law-passes-before -super-bowl/  (Jan 7, 2013 | post #3)

Palazzo sought millions in Katrina relief for Biloxi Hous...

Yeah, Palazzo is just doing what his puppetmasters make him do. If it weren't for the GOP playbook, he'd have no plan of action at all.  (Jan 7, 2013 | post #1)
