Direct Access for Physical Therapist

That is total bullshit. The PT degree was a MS degree until the PT's decided they needed to be called "doctor" and changed the degree with virtually zero additional requirements. I referred hundreds of thousands of dollars to PT clinics when I practiced and I mostly appreciated their work, but PT's are secondary healthcare, period. This thread is a waste of bandwidth because the TMA is going to kill any and all primary access bills that are introduced in Texas. You need to quit flexing your muscles because you do not have anything to go on here. If you want to be primary care, go to DC, MD, DO, DPM or veterinary school.  (Dec 10, 2012 | post #14)

Direct Access for Physical Therapist

You are as stupid as you are ignorant. PT schools are a sham and everybody knows it. If you have never gone through a CCE accreditation process as a student or faculty officer, you are double ignorant and/or a liar. The feds are the ones that accredit the CCE and all the medical groups. Deal with them, loser. PT's will not get direct access in Texas. Period. Spend all your worthless efforts in getting a "doctoral " degree for PT's and let them fight over that mess.  (Dec 10, 2012 | post #13)

Keefer gets 2 years

Just curious here, as I am not as familiar with this as I should be, but did the law classify this as a non-violent crime? Usually DWI's that involve death is considered a violent crime, right? So if that is the case, he has to serve 50% of his time before being eligible for parole, and that can't be reduced by good behavior in a violent crime. Am I correct on that? If so, then he is there for at least one year, unless they gave him two one-year sentences to be served concurrently.  (Aug 30, 2012 | post #129)

Lamar County tax increase

Look, I appreciate everyone's opinions. I personally am a Republican and have been for 40 years. In high school I worked hard for Tricky Dicky. In spite of that awful outcome, I stayed with the party. So, I suppose I am to blame for a lot of the negatives here because they are, to a certain amount, true. You have to stay true to the values of your elected office. We are still in an awful depression/recessi on and there is no way that anyone should be raising any kind of taxes during a time like this. If you have somebody doing that you, as voters, need to forget about "party" and throw that SOB out of office. Immediately. That is neither R or D, that is just good sense. Our state is doing better than most because of that very simple principle. So, if you have officials who are voting to increase ANY tax or fee, that person needs to go. Period, end of statement. Amen, pass the non-government funded cornbread.  (Aug 22, 2012 | post #164)

PISD Bankrupt???

No, that is true...completely. But the idea of property rich vs. property poor districts demonstrates a totally unfair system. To get that stadium in Allen, it took only a couple of pennies of property value tax. But for Paris, it would take close to a dollar. The property tax system is flawed in favor of wealthy districts. I personally have long been in favor of doing away with property taxes and going to a sales-tax driven school system, but as you know the state can't do anything right, so it would likely be screwed up from word one. We might be reaching that point, though, as the new school funding suit is going before a judge next month in San Antonio. This could be a real game changer and it would be nice if my hometown could afford the same educational tools as rich suburbs.  (Aug 22, 2012 | post #27)

Sorry, my mistake. Are you sure it was a Rockwall judge? I thought change of venue meant only that the town changed. Did the judge recuse himself from the case? Just curious.  (Aug 22, 2012 | post #101)

PISD Bankrupt???

Roughly, schools are financed 1/3 by property tax, 1/3 by sales tax and 1/3 by federal money. You definitely can thank Bill because Paris RECEIVES money from Robin Hood, although I agree it is a very flawed system.  (Aug 22, 2012 | post #25)

Keefer gets 2 years

I have known people who have done more time for less offenses than this, but this was a Paris jury that gave this sentence. I personally would have looked at this differently, probably more harshly, since I come from a family that has been greatly affected by alcohol. Hopefully this young man will reconstruct his life in a positive way and reach out to young offenders with his life story so that he can help prevent this from happening in the future. My personal opinion is that the worst sentence a person could have would be going to high schools and being forced to tell his entire story to the school while 2 caskets are sitting in front of him. THAT is harsh punishment and I have seen it in person. Not a dry eye in the house. I just want people to remember that alcohol is a recreational drug and nothing, not a thing, can come from it except bad. Sorry to ramble.  (Aug 22, 2012 | post #96)

PISD Bankrupt???

The situation at Paris is not unlike most rural school systems. Champagne taste on a beer salary. Speaking of salaries, have you looked at the starting pay for a teacher in PISD? Paltry is the kind way of putting it. Honestly, I have no idea of how these small school districts operate on the small budgets from the state. It seems to me kind of cold that Allen ISD has built an NFL level stadium and PISD cannot afford an outhouse. You need to live within your means, of course, but there is something fundamentally wrong with school financing in this state. It is much worse than illegals, bonds and politicians with standard slogans. Smaller towns are getting screwed by the state and nobody seems to care. It makes it even worse when the schools keep leaning on taxpayers for luxuries.  (Aug 22, 2012 | post #23)

Restless leg syndrome

RLS may also be related to low back issues. If you are having some low back pain, be sure and mention that to your doctor. You may have an entirely different issue causing this. Also, one thing that triggers RLS in some people is, believe it or not, Tylenol PM or anything that contains diphenhydramine. If you are taking that at night to help you sleep, it may be causing you to LOSE sleep. You might try some melatonin instead of diphen and see if that helps. Melatonin is OTC and you can take 2 tablets and night and sleep like a baby. I really hope this helps. I have had this in the past and it is NOT fun at all. The good side is that you get plenty of exercise when it acts up. ;)  (Aug 17, 2012 | post #34)

John Roberts is a turncoat!!

This is actually a very good question that I wish I could predict. We are so divided as a country that I doubt it will make a lot of difference in the long run, but Obama is hoping that the R's make this their main issue and forget about jobs, etc. The fact is that there are $400 Billion in tax increase in this bill and you have to know that we are going to see it attacked, but Obama has done so many things wrongly that it may take more money than can be printed to let the public know just how bad he really is. Obama may be the only president in the history of this country that could singlehandedly get Romney elected president.  (Jun 30, 2012 | post #68)

I had no idea that God went to Topix to decide who gets to live in Heaven. I always thought that he was the final say and the ultimate Supreme Court.  (Jun 22, 2012 | post #25)

Chiropractic

Will Chiropractic Treatment prevent backpain?

No, dummass..unlike the "real doctors" I take preventative measures. Proper diet and exercise. My arteries are clear. I had a real doctor to look at me from across the room and told me so! Ha ha. Coronary arteries? Be specific! There really is only one coronary artery. Then you have the anterior interventricular, posterior, etc...please let me know what studies have been done to prove the extension of life expenctancy. It DOES increase the quality of life...for some. But the gloom/doom surgeons just want that money, which is why the do the CABG on anybody and everybody...includ ing a 105 year old man.  (Jun 22, 2012 | post #16)

Chiropractic

Murphy Chiropractic opens its doors

Oh, yeah..the orthopedics seminars are nothing but sales pitches for new bionics for grandpa. You have no idea of what my experience with "medciine " is, but I can absolutely assure you that I have a background that qualifies me to speak on the ills of the worst profession ever. Medicine is a lunatic fringe of drug pushers...plain and simple. Bipolar is incurable. Cancer is incurable. Depression is incurable. Autism is incurable. Psychiatry is a vast wasteland of absolute quackery in the highest order. Cardiothoracic surgery (CABG!!!) IS A SHAM. Not one person lives a second longer because of these "therapies. " They guess that "you have a brain disorder..take this pill." Not one single scientific study to validate this therapy, yet there are dozens and dozens of studies that prove the efficacy of chiropractic. Yeah, if I had your track record I would go after DC's too.  (Jun 22, 2012 | post #20)
